Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
If they’ve received 4.5m for Conway then hopefully we’re talking a similar ish amount for Twine if true. I was anticipating 3-4m.

Surely people don't post BS on message boards, just to pretend that they are 'In the know'?
Glad we don't have any of those sort of twonks on ours.

According to transfermarkt we paid £2.5m for Twine.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 2:23 pmWe paid £4m for Twine and we need to make a profit not break even
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
We don't need to make a profit. Ideally we would make a profit on every player, but some work out (Odobert, Muric) and some don't. Considering he's hardly played, I think breaking even on Twine would be a resultWoodleyclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 2:23 pmWe paid £4m for Twine and we need to make a profit not break even

Twine for me has been a bit of a dissapointment-so much expected from him when he joined.Just too lightweight but should thrive in the lower half of our league, or league belopw. Selling, even at a small loss is a no brainer

The fee received for this Odobert probably now gives us more flexibility to loan out players like obafemi, McNally and Delcroix if we don’t get perm offers of good value for them

40 to 50 million in 2 or 3 seasons? Well, he's not gone for that and you have absolutely no idea how he might or might not progress at a club like Spurs. Good luck to him but your 'I told you so' holds no water with me. Plenty have joined Spurs over many seasons and plenty have failed. That's why they never win anything. I genuinely hope he bucks the trend but there is more competition there than there was here.

You really would hope Twine, along with the absolutely stunning Odobert fee, allied with the business we've done already, would now put us in a position whereby it's only the players that we want to be moved on are now moved on.
In a football sense of course. If someone is gonna come along with a bid for Koleosho or Berge along the same price point as Odobert then I think everyone would wave them off.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
We’ve managed to offload Bastien, Churlinov, Twine, BPF - just Obafemi and possibly McNally to go from the guys you’d say were obvious. That is efficient work in the circumstances in my opinion.
All of this alongside getting £10-15m for Muric, £10-13m for Kompany, £30m for Odobert. We have done well. We now need to see the club be strong with Berge and O’Shea.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
No problem with any of these today. We have to remember Odobert was raw, he looks great, scores a few, but I don’t recall many key passes. Just checked OPTA and he had 31 chance creating carries, which is great, but no goals resulting from them, either from him or a teammate, so it looks great but wasn’t decisive.
Entirely possible too he could have got injured and / or get kicked into submission in the EFL.
What this transfer does is it makes the likes of Tresor a free hit. We are now in profit if we combine both together. Use that logic in every position and it is a good way to run a club, unrealistic to expect every single player to turn a profit but it should be the aspiration for every position on the pitch, almost like a mini team if you will.
The other thing it does is make it more likely there will be one or two big money incomings that suit Parker, personally I expect experience, a CB to replace O Shea wouldn’t surprise me. Egan if he is fit (free), someone else for dosh of that ilk if not.
It’s all good.

Good day for those who were nervous about the squad trimming.
Can’t say I wanted Odobert to be part of that though. Feel we’ve missed watching a special season from him now.
Worrying that Longsideclaret is saying it’s the start of several exits. I was hoping with Kompany, Muric, Odobert, Twine & Weghorst we might not need to sell any more.

What happens if we get very good offers for all our other vital players?
Do we sell them all knowing that promotion becomes less likely?

This is the test for the owners. To sell all of our top assets would not make sense as we need to get back to the Prem. It's going to be interesting to see what happens between now and the end of the transfer window.

I'm not sure I like the idea of McNally going. He did well coming on on Monday and he's used to playing on the right in a back three The others - Beyer, Ekdal and Al Dakhil - well, are we in a position to rely on them if Esteve and O'Shea get injured or need support.

I would think AP has more sense than that. Exits were inevitable, but I'm sure he wants promotion just as much as we do.
Allied to the income from sales, is the saving in wages. We won't have an answer until the window closes, but so far it's good business. Keep the faith.

No idea and I think this is the problem; will other players now feel they are owed moves if offers come in?
Hoping we had a strategy around it anyway. Although I loved Odobert and don’t really believe the fee is that great for him when Olise is going for double (I think we’d have got more in a few years, anyway) - I can accept if he’s playing in the 10 we’re stacked there.
Amdouni likely gets the not but neither he or JBG are going to make the run like Odobert did for the Luton goal. I do think selling may end up putting us in a worse financial position if it puts promotion at risk but think we can handle selling Odobert if he’s the main sale.
