Good luck to both lads ... Odobert should shine for Spuds ... Shame we didn't see more of Twine, but hey ho we do need to pare down our overloaded squad, so we expected sales.
I think we might see a few more and some incoming before September.

Just to prove that every silver lining has a cloud waiting inside it, I was proper chipper after Monday evening and genuinely bouyed up and looking forward to tomorrow and the season ahead. Then we lose Oderbert and I fear it's just the start!! Now I'm getting very jittery all of a sudden!

Well we all know it won't be the last outgoing and I'm not talking about the likes of Scott Twine. Clubs are queuing up to snatch our best players. With the team/squad which turned out Monday we'd probably win the league by Christmas, but we all know many won't be around come September. I HAD been hopeful, but I now fear the worst.

Spurs are good at nicking our best players
Disappointing fee as his potential is massive. Will prove to be a steal for them this like Trippier.

Good luck to the lad at Spurs, he hasn't been here long enough to cement himself into Claret folklore, but it will be interesting following his career.

Re: ARTICLE: Odobert leaves for Spurs
I agree with most of this, but at least we know what these guys are. For me, the real betrayal was by two apparently lifelong Burnley fans hoarding money on the balance sheet to make the club more attractive to a buyer, when they could/should’ve been investing. (For me, 2018 was a massive - probably once in a lifetime - opportunity missed, when we could’ve have used the 7th place finish and a chance of European football as a lure for a better class of player.) instead, Garlick and John B allowed the club to stagnate while they looked for a buyer, and they knew exactly what the ALK business plan was when they sold it.FeedTheArf wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 12:22 pmBut to me that's worse.
ALK are a business that have come in and taken an opportunity to make money, Garlick and the previous board were meant to be fans. That's probably a very naive outlook, but I really struggle with the concept of our club being milked to line the pockets of people. I see it as a community asset that owners are custodians of. Some will say they've got every right to make money and it will make them more motivated to do well but it doesn't, and will never, sit right with me until that debt is repaid. Burnley FC are paying loans back that paid for ALK shares. Just think of what the club could have done with that money!
I understand I'm in the minority these days and more and more people are coming around to Pace being a top notch guy because he walks round the fan zone before games and he commissioned two TV series so fans could see how much he cared, but I just don't buy it.
In the end, they damaged the club through underinvestment and walked away with £100m+ paid for by club cash and debt loaded on the club. Never quite understood why they have largely “got away with it” as far as their reputation amongst Burnley fans is concerned.

As much as I love Odobert, he plays in the one position where I think we can afford to lose a player if the money is right. We’ve doubled our money after a poor season for the club so it looks like good business. As long as it’s reinvested in the squad or paying off the debt then we should be content.

Gutted but not surprised I expected a few more big names to go.
The fee reported on Transfermarket is £25 million, which I think is most likely to be true. To put it into context we paid £18 million for Tresor.
It's a good fee and I guess we had to sell but it's very disappointing nonetheless. He is an exceptional talent and it is hard to see how Kompany didn't seem to see it for the first part of last season.
I'm going to quit now before I descend into churlish rancour.

You and your numbers don’t half make me laugh. Stating for a fact (or at least ‘most likely to be true’) we received £25m because you read it on Transfermrkt (doesn’t mean zip but let’s go with it) while the next fact, according to you, is paying £18m for Tresor… while the same reliable source you’ve just used to work in a negative angle on things (by saying it’s 25 instead of 30 like most are reporting) says £15m (Athletic actually said £13m by the way).ClaretPete001 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 4:53 pmGutted but not surprised I expected a few more big names to go.

Re: ARTICLE: Odobert leaves for Spurs
Real shame.
This lad has all the attributes to potentially shine at international level. The sky's the limit for him.
Presumably we've made a profit on him and that's the ALK model but it's always disappointing to see exciting talent leave the club.
All the best to him in his future.

Don't be silly prefacing something with most likely to be true and citing a source is not stating it as a fact.RVclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 5:10 pmYou and your numbers don’t half make me laugh. As I've said before, I've checked the Transfermarket fees with the August signings cited in the post balance sheet events on our last set of accounts and they matched up quite well. You can do it because it is a raw figure. So, I generally quote Transfermarket as opposed to general media speculation.
You are a bit of a cry baby when it comes to the negative RV, which is fine but keep it to yourself or do what New Claret does and make a joke of it. I like jokes at my expense less keen on the cry baby comments!

Bedwetting done??
Good.
Excellent fee. Good luck to him.
I suspect SP is likely to get some of that going forward, as opposed to our near neighbours using the massive fee from Sammies sale to service their debt….

Re: ARTICLE: Odobert leaves for Spurs
What's weird about quoting Transfermarket as opposed to The Athletic FFS.
We've seen over and over again that once one media outlet picks up a story it is reported by all the others.
I've gone the effort of triangulating what is on Transfermarket with what is in our published accounts so I use that as a source to be as reliable as any other or more so.
No one on here is so stupid as to not know that contracts are very complex and likely as not all the reports are ball park. I always cite Transfermarket - it has nothing to do with negativity.

Re: ARTICLE: Odobert leaves for Spurs
Losing Oderbert isn't terminal by any means, but we've another two weeks of transfer activities and after that it will have to be seen in the wider picture. IE. Is he our only "major" asset sold or is he just one of several? If (as I fear) other teams are more than just sniffing round our best players and O'Shea, Berge, Andoumi, Wout, Esteve, Brownhill, Ekdal, Koleosho, Trafford, Foster even, follow him out the door, we'll have shed loads of cash and a lower mid table team.

Tbf, I'm not a betting chap and actually I agree with you, we won't sell 10 players in the next two weeks. I wasn't suggesting everyone in that (not exhaustive by any means) list would be sold, but let's say we also lose O'Shea and Berge (both very likely it seems) and one other (Brownhill Koleosho, Esteve even?) we'll be struggling to recreate Monday's amazing show week in week out I fear.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 5:52 pmIt's a huge IF

Re: ARTICLE: Odobert leaves for Spurs
It says Eur18 million...! So, yes I didn't do the conversion. I looked at the figure for Odobert and then used the one in memory for Tresor forgetting it was a Euro figure. Done it before will probably do it again.
So, to re-iterate we have got £25 million for Odobert but paid £15 million for Tresor. We've also spent money on Esteve and a couple others (see Tranfermarket).
So, if Odobert is the last to go the board has done very well to maintain the squad because we haven't recouped the kind of money we did last time.
Much better than I expected tbh.
Re: ARTICLE: Odobert leaves for Spurs
Clearly he has real potential but the numbers are just too bad. Such a big sale must ease the financial pressures a lot, hopefully not too many more big players out the door.
