Sorry no.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
If we play as we did and become overrun in midfield like in the first 45 minutes during the Cardiff match against any of the top teams in this division, then we will be very likely to be 2 or 3 goals down by halftime, even with our decent defence... That 5-0 scoreline papered over a lot of cracks!... We won't be getting into those automatic promotion places if that performance is going to be the norm!Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 8:00 am

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Marney set the tempo for they way we played, when he was missing we were always rubbish. We've just seen that without Berge we still get results. We would still have Brownhill, Cullen and Massengo with a number of other players who could arguably play out of position if required. In the squad list Tony has listed JBG, Redmond, Ramsey, Benson, Koleosho and Tresor as midfielders but I think of them all as wingers though in the last two games Vitinho has been playing on the wing despite being a defender. If we're looking for a defensive midfielder perhaps Vitinho would be a better option. I'd say he's more like Andy Farrell than Berge is like Marney.northeastclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 8:36 amIf we sold Berge and didn’t replace him , we would have no where near enough quality and quantity in midfield. Remember the season Marney got injured just after the transfer window closed?
At least when we sold Odebert we had replacements, if we sell
Berge we will have to factor in the money we need to pay for an inferior player to make up the numbers.
Like us all, surprised how we struggled in the middle of the pitch against Cardiff, allow that to happen on Saturday and I doubt we will be as lucky.

With the home grown issue on Saturday we had roberts O’Shea Cullen brownhill jay rod and Egan Riley which are 100% home grown so that’s 6. You have to have 7 in the match day squad so that means one of either McNally or Massengo is actually classed as home grown in this leagueFeedTheArf wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 8:24 amBut on the other hand, an incredible professional who our very young squad could continue to learn from.
The longer the summer goes on and he doesn't get sorted elsewhere, the more I could see him coming back in a player/coach capacity. In his leaving interview it was clear that he loved the club and wanted to come back in some capacity in the future.
I know it's something RV has continually brought up, but it wasn't until I saw the teamsheet on Saturday I realised that the home-grown status is a genuine issue. It's probably the only reason that Egan-Riley made the bench. Having Cork in and around the squad could come in handy, it's just whether he is comfortable putting his playing career on the back burner, (Duff made a similarly difficult decision) or whether he wants to continue playing as long as possible.

No team kicks the season off in top gear. Match fitness, new players, new style. You won't see the best of most teams, or the best of Burnley for at least 8 games.
According to match reports Cardiff played excellent against Sunderland as well, but the same problem couldn't score. They aren't mugs. I also think it was us not picking the right tempo, or picking the right options 1st half. In other words it was us at fault, rather than Cardiff being too good. we'll be fine.

He is a great player for us-but really, is he up to a top four or five premier side??.Where will he fit in to the United side with so much depth to their squad ??. If he was in so much demand why has a mid table PL side not gone for him, or even one of the promoted three

What is the obsession with players that have left?
Ben Mee and Jack Cork were both brilliant for us but we have to have better.
If O'Shea goes we may be OK in that area especially if some return from injury soon.
If Berge goes we definitely need a replacement.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
The problem in the first half was self made. Even in the Championship we can't afford to gift cm by paying 4 out and out attackers. Hopefully it only takes half a game for Parker to realise what Vinnie never did.
Without Berge and whilst Ramsey is out, we don't have the right squad balance. The best we can do is use Vitineo as a hybrid third cm in a 433. I'd also put Amdouni in for Jay, but play him as a narrow right side attacker.

He didn’t sign for Oxford from ROI will 2021 when he was 21 so I don’t think he does class as home grown

Brighton are loaning Amario Cozier-Duberry to the Championship. 19 year old winger who has just signed for them from Arsenal.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I wouldn’t be happy with Vitinho in CM but he would give us, what the loss of Berge would lose us, in a ball carrier. Neither Cullen or Brownhill have this in them. Massengo looks as though he has and I’ve been impressed by his two very short appearances.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Massengo joined Bristol City in Aug 2019, just after his 18th birthday. Would he be counted as home grown.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 9:20 amWith the home grown issue on Saturday we had roberts O’Shea Cullen brownhill jay rod and Egan Riley which are 100% home grown so that’s 6. I think Massengo has a big part to play in our future midfield. Growing in confidence and might unfortunately take an injury or illness in one of our Josh's for him to get his chance but I think he will be ready to take it.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
From the limited bits I've read about him, it does sound like he has big potential and will be strongly competing for a starting spot during the season.
Already played at this level with Swansea, and played for the England U16s, 19s, 20 and 21s.
Chelsea will undoubtedly want a sell-on fee (mandatory buy at the end of the season), but it sounds very positive.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
We are in a strong enough position to keep Berge should they not meet the 30m
Also don't think there's a mad panic to replace him. We have enough. Even beyer could play there at a push

We’ve offloaded 2 midfielders already (Cork and Bastien), Berge would be 3.
While I want to see more of HNM this year I definitely think we need to replace Berge if he goes.

Berge would need replacing and I say that as someone that thinks Massengo could be very useful for us and has a lot of time for Browny and Cullen. Berge is different class like Defour was. He plays regularly and we **** this league (need to keep O'Shea and Esteve as well). Get a decent amount for Trafford and shift the fringe players on loans with a view to buy.
