I’ve mentioned this on several threads already but happy to do so again to avoid this speculation. Massengo spent 3 full seasons with Bristol City before/while turning 21 so he counts as homegrown under EFL rules.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 11:17 amHas the club made a silly mistake then? The are obviously big links to O’Shea but I don’t think a left footed 21 year old from Chelsea who’s had one loan spell in England is a direct replacement for O’Shea.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 11:02 amYes, it looks like terms are agreed with Chelsea.
I assume we're selling O'Shea.
At Fulham Parker when to a back 3 in some games and I could see that this season

Not fully sure it means Do'S is off (perhaps that is heart over head talking). He could just a good young talent identified for the right price and also coming in to cover other departures like McNally, Ekdal and Delcroix.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 11:02 amYes, it looks like terms are agreed with Chelsea.

The big question.

Was Bashir Humphreys in the same England U21's team or at least the squad as James Trafford?

Especially when someone stated on here that he is able to play across all of the back four, left and right.
Perfect player to have in the centre of O'Shea and Esteve with Pires and Vitinho as wing backs.

I was saying this on turf at weekend, I know prem clubs can double your wages for 12 months but going to a team like Ipswich who are likely to come back down and have your wages reduced again, aren’t you better staying at Burnley who are in a good position to go back up

£10m isn’t nearly consistent with the ‘large transfer fee’ and Brentford being unable to get there yet that Sky have been insistent on ever since they broke this.

We've spent 8 or so of the last 10 years in the Prem....as against their one game.

Assignon off to Roma apparently. Some incredible moves for our team last season:
Kompany - Bayern
Assignon - Roma
Odobert - Spurs
Berge - Man U???
Shows what we’re up against when you have the type of quality that allows people to get moves to these clubs and we can’t make a proper fist of staying up.

Shows me that our recruitment process, albeit with its apparent faults, has led to us unearthing some gems. Berge was of course already unearthed but you get my point. Sell those gems high and we have a sustainable model.

Posters who say O Shea can go, really under estimate his value to our team, and for me there is no one else who can play to his aggressive style within our squad, or provide the same threat in the opposition box. Also other than Esteve and McNally we have a huge injury record with our centre halves. Of course at a price we would have no option to take the money, but that figure has to be a minimum of £20m. Once we know O Shea is styling then we will sell McNally who I suspect will have a few Championship sides chasing him. Surprised Delcroix is still with us, and decisions will need to be made on the other three centre halves

- We clearly are having great success in recruitment. It’s maybe not perfect (is any clubs) but from where it was a few years back I think it’s come a long way.
- For any young player we must now be a really appealing prospect. I think you can see this starting to come in to play with Humphreys and Mendes. Their agents also will be seeing this and they’re probably as important as the players themselves.
Negatives:
- I don’t think we’ve nailed the selling part. I think in a season or two we’ll start to see Odobert’s fee as something of a bargain, for example. When you consider Palace and Bournemouth can hold on for €60m+ now for their best players, that has to be the goal.
- Although it’s definitely showing signs of becoming a ‘sustainable model’, losing your best players every year is frustrating and I’m not sure we have a “core” of premier league players yet so any more we sell this summer makes me feel we’re further away than ever to creating one.

Agree with this. To be honest, I’m getting pretty worried that Pace & Co are going to underestimate the value that players like Berge and O’Shea will bring to the squad over a gruelling season and assume they can replace them easily with the next batch of talent.warksclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 1:09 pmPosters who say O Shea can go, really under estimate his value to our team, and for me there is no one else who can play to his aggressive style within our squad, or provide the same threat in the opposition box. Also other than Esteve and McNally we have a huge injury record with our centre halves. O’Shea’s goal threat is worth £20m to us at least over the course of the season.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Currently, to be classified as homegrown one must be on an English team for at least three years before the age of twenty-one[4]
Massengo was 21 July 7th 2022 and signed for Bristol in August 5th 2019 aged 18 years and 2 weeks so he played 2019-20, 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 being 20 at the end of that season so just makes it as homegrown.
We have at present Trafford, O'Shea, Cullen,Jay, Brownhill, Roberts, Redmond, Obafemi, and Massengo who are home grown who could go into the 25man squad. We do of course have a number under 21 year olds who are home grown, Ramsay, Egan-Riley, Dodson, Casper and Agyei who are listed in our first team squad and can be called upon to make up the 7 for matchday home grown player but we have to have a club developed player in the match day squad too.
A club developed player is any player who was at the club for 'at least 12 months prior to the end of his Under 19 season'; basically, anyone who was signed to the club for at least a year as a teenager (even if they were out on loan).
Over 21 player who fits that is Jay. Looks like we could have a few on the subs bench just to make up the numbers.
If you dont name a club developed player you can only have 8 subs

O’Shea price quoted to Brentford was £15m and they backed off so I very much doubt we do a deal with Ipswich at £10m.
Looking like Wout to Ajax is getting nearer.

If that club is Fulham that feels to me like a really good fit. They need to replace Paulinha I guess and looked a little short in midfield last Friday. Would love to keep Berge but realistically I doubt we will. For Berge himself moving to a club like Fulham would at least mean he’s got a great chance of playing every week. United is such a toxic club and the sense of entitlement from their fans who will no doubt be turning their noses up at buying a player from Burnley means players are under unfair pressure to perform from the start.LongsideClaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 1:48 pmO’Shea price quoted to Brentford was £15m and they backed off so I very much doubt we do a deal with Ipswich at £10m.

DOS has certain characteristics that I don't see many of our CDs having.
He is aggressive, quick and attacks our corners. None of the others appear to have 2 of those traits.
15m would be very cheap. I think 20m would be the least I'd want to accept. Easy to say from the outside without knowing all the facts.

I expect us to rake in well over £100m now and be financially solid. What I don't want is for it to get up to £130m-£150m as that is a major rebuild.
