Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Christ on a bike. Been away a couple of days and come back to Armageddon.
I'm still struggling to take in what I've been reading on here. This season could shape up as calamitously as the last one!

Worrall is a cracking replacement for O’Shea. Will be an ideal partner for Esteve. A proper replacement for Berge would be nice.

Suddenly the 10m compensation for kompany seems low for the mess he has left us in
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
That’s a solid fee to be fair.

Give over. Burnley buy low, develop, sell high. Do it all again. This is what is supposed to happen. Shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

Also heard we got a very good fee.
Very good player and I’d have much preferred we kept him over signing Worrall.
Think this will prove to be cheap as chips in time. Hope there’s a decent sell-on.

The winger is Sarmiento I believe. Someone I know at the club seems to think he was there yesterday.

Really rated AAD. Probably wasn’t prem-ready last season though. How much did we pay for him?

United In Focus this morning reporting the Burnley interest in Hannibal, arguing that United should accept any reasonable offer with both hands to get the player out of the club as any offers for the player’s services have been few and far between and he clearly has no future at Old Trafford.

Al-Dakhil going as well is disappointing.

Around £5m from memory. He was one of the January window signings I think with Lyle Foster.Flying Without Ings wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 11:06 amReally rated AAD. Probably wasn’t prem-ready last season though. How much did we pay for him?

Good player but more of a left wing cut inside type. Thought we’d want the same but on the right, particularly if Benson is going. Perhaps Koleosho goes to that side.

Sums up my thoughts perfectly.
Not enamoured and not sure where it leaves Koleosho or Anass. Not convinced he’s a huge upgrade on either.
He was the one most strongly linked but others mentioned. Not sure if they were alternatives or as well as.

Maybe not to be put in the shop window, but more to make a point that they are part of our plans and not sold cheaply.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 9:08 amWith so many of the players departing (or strongly rumoured to be leaving) that have actually featured in the first 2 games, it feels like they were just being put in the shop window rather than being identified as part of our squad for the coming season.
Nobody right now has a clue who will be lining up on Saturday at Sunderland, probably not even Scott Parker.
Or could just be that while they are BFC players they are expected to do the job they are paid to do.

Sarmiento is another talent who needs a prem move with all brightons options, yes he does come in from the left but so did Odobert and he played central against Luton, I really think Sarmiento could play the Odobert role easily and he’s home grown

So it has always been for a club Burnleys size. It's just for 30 years we lost the ability to find gems and sell them on.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 10:07 amIt could turn into a shop, rotating stock, as opposed to a club.
People panicking far too soon at all the rumours. We won't know what is true until the window closes, but ask yourself when did we last have a squad with so many sought after players. We are victims of our own success in many ways, so the recruitment team must be getting something right.
It's never easy to say goodbye to our stars, but those old enough to remember Dobson, Stevens, James, Coates, Connelly, McIlroy....... it's nothing new. Keep the faith. UTC

Ipswich used Sarmiento mainly on the right - I'm told he's equally comfortable on the left
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
So we sell (on the cheap) our young improving central defender who is good enough for the PL and replace him with a cheap older player who isn’t good enough for the PL.
But we want to be a PL club? Makes sense to me

He started centre half then for some unknown reason we tried him at full back. At one point he couldn’t even take a throw in.

At one point he was even being used at left back and being asked to step into midfield like Maatsen did for us. Against Tottenham he was asked to play the second half at right wing back in a shape we’d never used before. He got pulled up for a foul throw 2 minutes into that role.
Pathetic from Kompany and by the time he was dropped his confidence was absolutely shot at.

Similarly with our links to Hannibal from Manchester United. Proven that he can play and perform well at Championship level (Birmingham), but found severely wanting when stepping up, as his limited game time at Old Trafford and disappointing loan spell at Sevilla shows.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Played him at right back at the start of the season.
I think it was against Spurs where he could not even throw the ball properly - let alone kick it straight. Did not help him that Trafford was playing suicidal passes to him 20 yards from his own goal with multiple Spurs players pressing him. It was beyond ridiculous and led directly to the Maddison goal in that game.
VK’s fault 100%.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Baggies in for a windfall as they get 20% of any profit on O'Shea. If we sell for £15 we only get our £7 + £6.4 million

Although a seemingly crazy 24 hours, I don't think we need to hit the panic button. We have a manager who has won 2 Championship promotions, and I don't think for 1 second he won't have been consulted regarding all these outgoings.
It's also highly likely now this will free space for him to bring in 4/5 of his own signings so I'm actually looking forward to the next few days..

Worrall was decent for Forest, however, it does beg the question as to why are we losing a, now, very decent CB and spending the funds on 2 lesser beings?
