Weirdly i am the other way round. Got a feeling that he will come back and knuckle down and be a massive success. Ever the optimist me!

It was €23m he went for. £20m. I liked him, not so sure he’d have scored a lot more goals though.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 6:12 pmTella completely different player, we should of absolutely spent 15m on tella last summer

Brownhill scores 1 in 9, Hannibal 1 in 26.ArmchairDetective wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 6:28 pmIn a way after seeing Brownhill play in our opening two games, maybe Brownhill is Berge's replacement and Hannibal is Brownhill's replacement.
I wouldn't play him as a forward cm. A defensive one who can tackle, and carry the ball forward given the opportunity maybe.

I have a few Man U fans in my extended family (ST holders) and they’re all shocked too.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 6:15 pmI’m assuming Mejbri is the Berge replacement.
Certainly an interesting one, struggling to see what he offers us that maybe massengo doesn’t. But il leave judgement until we see him in a clarets top.
Gut is telling me this will be a good signing. Interestingly a man United mate of mine is saying he’s surprised there letting him go, he thought he would potentially move up the pecking order if Mctominay were to leave.
I have posted what I like about him - he’s quick to the ball which is one of the first things I look for in a midfielder, not afraid to tackle and get stuck right in (second thing), can pick a long or short pass and turns quickly.
I’ve seen him play in the holding role but think his maybe his preferred position is more attacking but maybe that’s just because United are usually attacking.
Agree though that Massengo also looks decent to me and I’m hoping the 4 can all be kept happy.
At 21 he’s only going to get better. I think it’s a great signing. Hoping we’ve enquired about Diallo too if Benson is off but looks like he might be in ETH’s plans (they always give them some games early season to give players hope they’re in their plans) and imagine too expensive for us anyway.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Hannibal is a good player and just the type we need. Someone that presses hard and constantly rats around for the ball. The way we are setting up under Parker to hit teams with a fast counter he will be ideal.

I was never convinced Burnley were encouraging interest, this seems to confirm it. I suspect it will come down to how much they can/are willing to pay and if Vitinho fancies returning to Brazil… neither of which can be taken for granted.Guller Bull wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 7:08 pmVitinhno no?

If our head coach can give Massengo 'positive encouragement' about his Burnley playing career for the season ahead, I'm pretty sure he won't be looking for a move. He has settled well at the club.

Not sure I did - RV immediately said Hannibal.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 7:11 pmYou threw everyone off las night when you said he was a younger version of Berge, because Hannibal is absolutely nothing like Berge
I think he is. Although he’s not as tall as I thought he was when you look at his height online, maybe that’s his hair tricking me. Must add a foot! When I have seen him though he’s played a holding role at least a few times in a similar role to Berge.
Similarities to Berge I would say:
He can carry the ball
He can get out of tight spaces
Picks off short and long passes in to space
Agree there’s differences which I acknowledged in my post:
- I’d say he’s more energetic
- Looks to turn more
- More likely to fly in to a tackle, not always a good thing
Not sure from what I’ve seen from Parker we’ll be looking for a direct replacement anyway, but I think if we were could be easily moulded.

Just watching some Mejbri highlights, he's more skillful than I realised.
Good ball carrier and can dribble.
Obviously he's an absolute swine for the opposition too with his constant running.
He's quick too.
Sign him up.

Not sure if there's been crossed wires but I was suggesting Brownhill plays slightly forward at times, as he has previously, with Hannibal and Cullen sat behind.
It's an alternative and probably more accurate suggestion than others suggesting Hannibal is Berge's direct replacement, in my opinion.

I try to to assess our signings by how I would feel if Sheffield United or another one of our rivals signed them.
If Mejbri had signed for them, I would definitely be gutted.
Therefore on that basis he is already a good signing

Those unsure about Mejbri, this isn't meant to sound arrogant, but if he does this team it will be the best team he has played for at this level, which hopefully will help him improve and develop quicker, also knowing that players around you are at a better level can increase confidence on moving the ball.
Would be a good signing.

I could be wrong but I think Sarmiento may qualify as a home grown player as well.

I agree and I believe it's because Parker seems to have moved away from Kompany's Idea that Vitihno can play full back. I've been saying for 2 years he's a very good player in the opposition half, but can be something of a liability in ours. Yes, as a winger he still has some defensive duties, but when his main purpose is offensive he looks a miles better player (imo).
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Think Al Dakhil has massive potential, bit gutted to see him going. Wasn't helped by Kompany last season, the lad is probably still having nightmares about that Spurs home game.

Will be sad to see Al-Dakhil go. He suffered more than most (apart from Trafford) under Kompany's management last year.
Looked good in the Championship season and, with four full Belgian caps at twenty-two, has loads of time for development.
Being played hopelessly out of position in a defensive "unit" that was at sixes and sevens could have seriously damaged his confidence.

10m for Al Dak?
Cheap as chips.
I'd rather he go than DOS, though. I don't think Al Dak is strong enough for the EPL.

He’s not a winger. He’s an extra defender playing one further forward and we get away with it at this lower level.

Looked quite promising in the championship. But he’s relatively
Similar to Twine in that he’s approaching an age where he needs to be playing regular football and he’s just not going to get it at Burnley. I mean let’s face it 10m quid for potentially our fifth choice CB is remarkable money.

If someone has paid £10m for Al Dakhill, then O'Shea has to be worth more than £20m
