It's a FIRE SALE.
Ok, I'm calling it.
This has turned into a fire sale.
The manager looks peed off, the players look peed off, the fans are furious.
No player is off limits.
How many more will go?
Shameful Alan, Shameful.

When the club was sold to Pace and co I was concerned that they might be asset strippers.
It seems I was correct.

Haven’t we spent big money on someone this week and committed to spending a substantial amount on another?

Take the money and run. Well it looks that way. No one will want to stay at this rate. I’m thinking of jumping ship myself. I can’t take the stress.

Parker, in his press conference, touched on players who don't want to be here being shipped out, so much as I'm sceptical of the owners, I don't really think they're to blame for footballers looking for a bigger bank balance or to play at a higher level.

If all of the players sold and yet to be sold didn‘t want to be here then it sounds like we have serious problems, and that Parker is even more disliked by the players than VK.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 8:36 pmParker, in his press conference, touched on players who don't want to be here being shipped out, so much as I'm sceptical of the owners, I don't really think they're to blame for footballers looking for a bigger bank balance or to play at a higher level.
Whatever the reason, selling off all of your best players is not good.

What is meant by a fire sale?
A fire sale consists of selling goods or assets at heavily discounted prices

There is no loyalty in football and players will go where their agents tell them they can get paid the most money. It's been like that for a long time.
Why would we want players who don't want to be here anyway? That can't be good for morale in any squad.

Well, we don't know why so many players appear to want to leave.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 8:36 pmParker, in his press conference, touched on players who don't want to be here being shipped out, so much as I'm sceptical of the owners, I don't really think they're to blame for footballers looking for a bigger bank balance or to play at a higher level.
There are several possible reasons
1. The club is trying to sell them and has told them so.
2. Their agents have been told by Pace that we won't turn down any good offers - and so have gone looking for such offers.
3. The players had relegation clauses in their contracts and are using them.
4. We are just randomly receiving offers.
I've no idea which is the truth but I'd guess a combination of 2 and 3.

Re: It's a FIRE SALE.
No it is not.
Have you ever played football?
These are young men who predominently joined us to put themselves in the shop window and grow. How many of the ones we are upset about were sold for less than they were bought? How many of those went to a club which wasn't in a more prominant league for their development and future interests?
We might not like it but it is understandable and doesn't constitute panic mode. Nor does it mean the club is in chaos.
The stock will no doubt be replenished.

Re: It's a FIRE SALE.
That is very true especially at Luton, there did feel like a connection but I suppose players like O’Shea once they are on the pitch they forget anything else and are competitive and just want to win and are passionate when you are doing well. Where as someone like Amdouni you never know whether they look interested or not because they have a relaxed look to themforzagranata wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 8:58 pmIt's possible their Burnley 'experience' as ALK would put it, has been soured by last season and they can't wait to leave yeah.

Re: It's a FIRE SALE.
It's one thing having a ridiculous and premature reaction after a 1-0 loss away to a good team.
It's another reacting to players being sold without replacements before the transfer window closes.
But the nationality of the ownership doesn't have anything to do with how the club is run and it's really wrong to blame it on that.
Remember it's offensive to call Americans Yanks.
Be realistic there are plenty of owners from different countries including the UK that have done far worse.
We all knew this was coming and we're not in a position to make moves first before clubs come in for our players. We'll have our targets and it will just take a little longer to sign them.
Be grateful this didn't happen right at the end of the window like when we a sold Austin.
And even if we bring no one in this is still only 1 game. We got 43 more chances of pipping Sunderland which I'm sure we'll do by the end of the season.

Re: It's a FIRE SALE.
If it isn't nailed down then it looks like the Board will sell it. Either everyone including SP has been lied about finances and the future project or there is a deliberate plan to vandalise the club to strip it of all its assets, The only way to convince the vast majority of the fans otherwise is for the club to bring in better quality players before the deadline to offset those going or have left that formed part of the first team plans. The trust and loyalty between the Board and the fans is now a major critical issue which simply MUST be addressed. Poor SP is being placed in an utterly unacceptable position. The club is now haemorraging players and unless this is put right, we will have gone from being in a great position to one where the only way is down and possibly out. The Board have been completely clueless about football and were besotted by a chancer who just got lucky. How we got into this mess is completely unacceptable.

Re: It's a FIRE SALE.
The obvious point is that we suddenly started signed promising players from Clubs in France and Belgium, who were sold the " project " by Vincent Kompany ... he is no longer here, and their agents are now looking for " better deals for them / Another hefty commission " ( depending on your viewpoint ) and they wish to leave ..
I don't give a toss about the League Cup game against Wolves Reserves, but I want us fully up for Saturday .. Mr Pace knows he will face a very tricky situation if we are embarrassed a week today !

Re: It's a FIRE SALE.
I think it’s feeding off itself now. The more players leave, the more are going to think the club’s going nowhere and will want out. We were always going to have to sell 2 or 3, but at some point you have to dig in and say “no more”. At the moment there doesn’t appear to be any long-term strategy - ALK are just winging it one season at a time.

I remember when the majority of this board thought O’Shea was rubbish ….
I also remember that we have just signed 2 CB and currently have Beyer and Ekdal …
He’s not going to turn down a move back to the PL and good luck to him
our model is to buy young potential and sell in at a profit wether we like it or not
We can’t sell it all at once though and to date that’s not yet happened.
We have cover for all positions sold …. Koleosho was injured unfortunately and if Benny goes we will need another body
Still have redmond and tresor to come back in though
I was more concerned about Cullen…. For which I do feel he’s genuinely injured ….
We can’t lose Cullen.

A "fire sale", colloquially, can also mean a sale of goods or assets when the company is in circumstances so dire that selling essential assets, without which the company will struggle to function, is necessary.
It's often a mistake to think that colloquial English has a rigid definition with no nuances of meaning and no changes over time. However, if you prefer, you could always call it a clearance sale. (Or even, God forbid, a closing down sale.)

I mean many could have been calling Harwood-Bellis not good enough if we signed him for the PL.
At Championship level O'Shea is a top defender hence why us and other teams wanted him. You can't question fans questioning him in the English top flight (arguably the world's top division) we're not in that league now, so of course they are going to be unhappy if he's sold. We need all the top experienced players in this league to help us get out of it.

We clearly need to keep Cullen and make some additions this week to what’s gone out
Our first team and eventual bench I am sure will be more than capable of beating every team in this league

We haven't sold anybody who remotely fits that definition, therefore it is NOT a fire sale.

The players attitudes and lack of effort at Sunderland was shameful tbh.
Obviously not happy with all their regular team mates being shipped out...but that's no excuse for that horrendous lack lustre display.

It seems I was correct.
I think it’s a copy Glazers at Man U
They run a constant debt
With a massive turnover generated by an almost definite Premier league survival and an established world wide generated revenue
Make a billion
Spend half a billion on players, service the debt, take some payment for your efforts
The model is unsustainable at Burnley FC without Premier League survival and perfect financial operating, they have failed at both.
