What does success now look like before the transfer window closes for you?
For me..
Retain:
Trafford, Brownhill, Cullen & Koleosho
Bring in:
Hannibal or Philip Billing as replacement for Berge
Sarmiento or Harvey Barnes as a Winger
A striker who is proven at this level...
Will be interesting to see what happens.. What would success look like for you?

Harvey Barnes who just got an assist for Newcastle today? Good luck with that one.
Re: What does success now look like before the transfer window closes for you?
Similar to that, though we could afford to lose Trafford with the cover we have, though I'd rather keep himclarethomer wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 5:50 pmFor me..

Retain:
Any player still at the club except Wout.
Bring in:
Quality midfielder
Quality striker
Quality winger x2
Quality left back.
Quality right back
Never, ever going to happen.
So I'm expecting disappointment

Sell Weghorst and Benson as they clearly desperately want out.
Retain everyone else.
Then sign Kebbal, Sarmiento, Mejbri, Billing

I’d say we need 4 first team ready players if nobody else leaves.
If people do leave we need to replace them as well.

Re: What does success now look like before the transfer window closes for you?
First off, I'd be focused on building up and protecting the spine of our 1st 11 from any transfer bids.
So for me, I am expecting the spine to look something like this: -
Hladky, Esteve, Worrall, Brownhill, Cullen and Foster.
I think defence is OK for now (assuming we retain the current group of players from our squad as it stands).
The problem areas for me are midfield (wingers) and centre forwards.
In our Championship winning season, we were able to spread the goals around as VK stacked the squad up with loads of options in this area (and we got lucky as well). It's not going to be like that this time, we are playing (let's say) a more pragmatic style of football under SP and furthermore we need proven Championship quality now with any signings we bring in.
So I'd like to see a centre midfielder (back up to Brownhill & Cullen), striker (playing alongside Foster) and two wingers being signed this week. All these signings need to be able to step into our 1st 11.

Nearly, but we need 2 new wingers.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 6:47 pmSell Weghorst and Benson as they clearly desperately want out.

if AlDakhil is nearly fit McNally can be sold. Both if necessary. Delcroix needs to go, but not fit atm. Presumably Dodgson will go out on loan.
However, I am only expecting incomings as loans, hopefully with options to purchase so as not to repeat the mistakes of 2 years ago. We won't be able to afford Billing's full wages anyway.
If we still need more sales income, sell Trafford and get a loan keeper in. Absolutely vital that we keep Amdouni, Brownhill, Cullen, Foster, Esteve and in particular Koleosho.
One thing to remember is that we have had bad luck with injuries etc. If we had all of Beyer, Ekdal, Redmond and Ramsey anywhere near fit, things would be a lot calmer. Same goes for Tresor, but he is a massive issue and drain on finances atm.

To me success will always be that Burnley has a football team regardless of the level it is at.

Potentially but with the incomings I’ve suggested our attacking outlet will look like the following:summitclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 7:04 pmNearly, but we need 2 new wingers.

Strikers: foster, Hountondji, Jay
Left wing: Koleosho, Sarmiento, Ramsey
Right wing: Kebbal, Redmond, Vitinho
Attacking Midfield: Amdouni, Mejbri, Kebbal
Re: What does success now look like before the transfer window closes for you?
For me, A solid 22 of players, 2 in each position. This is made much harder by the long term injured we have at the moment.
I want to get away from 442 too.
Foster / Houts / Jay - Probably not going to get much better probably. So stick with and put faith in.
Tresor, Redmond, Vitinho, Koleosho. Some decent wide options there, but probably need another potentially on loan to cover while, Tresor and Redmond return.
Midfield 3 of Brownhill, Cullen / A New with cover from Ramsey, Massengo / CJ Definetly need 1 more in, again, a loan or another to cover while Ramsey comes back from injury.
LB - Pires / Bahir
LCB - Esteve / Bahir . Ekdal
RCB - Worrall / Beyer?
RB - Roberts / Sambo
Short Answer
1 wide player and two CMs
Moved on.
Wout, Benson, Trafford (for a decent fee, which I don't think we'll get), Amdouni, Delcroix

The goals may have been spread around but we luckily landed on Tella who scored 17 with 5 assists, a significant contribution at this level.leelad wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 6:57 pmFirst off, I'd be focused on building up and protecting the spine of our 1st 11 from any transfer bids.

If we're going into the season relying on Jay, Hountonji and Foster for goals top 6 would be one hell of a job.

Not trying to sound patronising but have you seen the teams in this league?
80-90% of the teams in this league, there strikers would struggle to make our bench (when everyone is fit).

I have seen all the other teams and their squads and there are some very average teams and players out there but my point stands, we're really going to struggle for goals if we're relying on those three up top. Or do you think anyone of them is suddenly going to pull a load of goals out of nowhere? They've done nothing to suggest that's going to happen, I obviously sincerely hope I'm wrong but I'm not holding my breath.

Re: What does success now look like before the transfer window closes for you?
Having a first team winger left.
Re: What does success now look like before the transfer window closes for you?
Having recouped £100m or so I’m hoping that Alan & co stand up to the squad and let them know they are under contract & that no one else will be leaving until January earliest.
Defence is fine, centre mid need attention, Massengo isn’t (yet) good enough for a promotion chasing side on yesterdays evidence.
If zeki goes then we need a 10
2 wingers & a striker
It’s going to be a very busy, or disappointing week with THAT game looming at the end of it. This is the biggest 7 days ALK have had at this club & could be defining if it doesn’t go well.

Harvey Barnes is not coming to, or considering Burnley.
He played in the Premier League for Newcastle today and assisted their equaliser.
Why would Howe send him out on loan? He’d walk into at least ten premier league teams first XI

ok, we can have 5 loans and 4 from one club. Maybe Parker can get some of the players out of Chelsea for the season ? After the amount of money we made them for Maatsen surely they wouldn't be against it

We need 3 things
- a goal scorer with experience
- a striker who can hold the ball up
- a midfielder to support Cullen And Brownhill
- pace (sorry) on the wings
Defence is good but no cover at left back

Benson and Weghorst out if they don’t want to be here. Same for anyone else but we only really can assume those two from Saturdays team sheet.
In - another Left back as Pires won’t be fit for all 46 games plus the cup games. Another central midfielder as we only have 3 and at least one winger (either on loan or permanently)
