It was a like a season of two halves. Was brilliant first half, not so the second half.ClaretAL wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 2:35 pmThat depends on which Zaroury you remember? Great in our Champions season, but probably deflated after the VK knock back as he didn't pull up any trees last year, and didn't in his cameo this year. Add to that he might have asked to leave being so demoralised at what the club has done to him, then what we got was reasonable, we would all like it to have been more.

Surely United must be extending Hannibal’s contract by 12 months, he’s out of contract in summer so a loan with obligation to buy wouldn’t make sense

So you have to go to Spain to get fit , thinking that is more tellingZiggy Stardust wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 2:31 pmPerhaps you can let us know next time before this all happens again, two weeks before it happens. You can validly & legitimately question how bleak the financial picture is with what's going on. The club seem to be risk adverse to long term committal signings. We might laugh at them down the road but the signs are we going in the same direction albeit they are more advanced & our PL past is more recent.burnley007 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 2:40 pmWe sell most of our squad, then get players on loan??

My point is that Burnley fans obviously have an affinity to these players for reasons other than just ability. It’s because they’ve represented the club for a number of years and have forged a connection with the supporters.Goliath wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 2:39 pm3 full internationals. For me the main reason Benson got dropped to impact sub and then benchwarmer is he gives zero defensively. Modern football can’t stand the luxury of these players.JimmyRobbo wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 12:56 pm
Benson was wonderful to watch even when the defender knew he was cutting inside. Didn't do much last season. He's not young and a he's a bit soft. I can understand them selling for 9m. That is very good business. (LC says it might not happen and I'd be disappointed actually).

To be honest. Anyone who thinks Cork is now better than Brownhill probably needs to give there head a bit of a wobble.Goliath wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 2:39 pm3 full internationals. Seen bits of them. As good as the exits?
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Which had us on the last day of the window trying to spend over £30m to bring Maatson in. I think the board have learned this time, only loan if you have an option. Obligation based loans will be because we want to buy them now, but don't want to run foul of PSR.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
You probably should be comparing them to the exits on the day we signed them. Who thought Koleosho and Oderbet were going to rip up the league when we signed them? Certainly not the selling clubs.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Ah yes I misinterpreted. That's a tricky one though, 2 of them were too good for us and didn't stay long term just like the current bunch. It must be difficult to find players that will want to stay long term but are also good enough to challenge at the top.
Our team looks short of technical ability to me because they are the ones that are most in demand. For me we need to be looking at players like zaroury/benson who can create and beat men 1 v 1. Is it that important other they are here that long? I'm not sure it is. If we can keep Brownhill then we have a few leaders in him, Worrall, Rodriguez, Cullen and possibly Ekdal. I think that's enough to carry the dressing room, it's the actual quality we are missing now.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Football isn't that black and white and anyone who gives an opinion as basic as that should probably stick to just watching.
Cork is absolutely streets ahead in a lot of vital aspects of the game ie the technical bits such as making space, receiving under pressure and progressing the ball without ever seemingly being at risk of giving it away. Brownhill can set the tempo with his pressing and energy but he needs a Cork next to him or the game will lack any sort of structure and control in possession.
In a sense they aren't comparable as they play totally different roles.

But is it really? , Zaroury was class in the championship yet wasn't even deemed good enough for the premiership. Where as Anthony has played in the premiership as well as the championship. Maybe it's time to steady the ship with proven players, just a thought .

Brownhill would be absolutely stupid to go, firstly can't imagine him being very fond of the Turkish game and can't imagine him settling at a club like trabsonspor, but he can walk free next year, would also be daft from a club point of view to let him go, but he strikes me as a player that at this stage will honour he's contract and help the cause and be happy with a move to a lower Premier league club next season on better wages.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 1:57 pmAthletic via Adam Leventhal, just tweeted that Trabsonspor have offered 4m euros for Brownhill, on a 4 year deal, with significantly improved terms on his salary.

He should be offered a new contract, simple as that. We need him and it would cost way more than 4 million to replace him.alwaysaclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 3:13 pmBrownhill would be absolutely stupid to go, firstly can't imagine him being very fond of the Turkish game and can't imagine him settling at a club like trabsonspor, but he can walk free next year, would also be daft from a club point of view to let him go, but he strikes me as a player that at this stage will honour he's contract and help the cause and be happy with a move to a lower Premier league club next season on better wages.

I think we can all agree that LongsideClaret has been extremely accurate with the information they have shared... and I am very grateful for their insight. LC quite rightly doesn't always provide their names until its just about done.
Of course there are other sources of info. It was just a view that I pondered.

He isn't though. He may have been at one time which is the bit you are completely ignoring. You cant make space, receive the ball under pressure well and progress the ball when you don't have the legs to get away from your man or to pick up those positions on the pitch anymore.Goliath wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 2:59 pmFootball isn't that black and white and anyone who gives an opinion as basic as that should probably stick to just watching.

Chester Perry wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 11:50 pmprobably a combination of things (not helpful I know) -
- there is cost management - big earners leaving/being got off the books, which may in part be down to not having relegation clauses on some of our bigger signings (I think Wout is a example that ALK/VSL have not learned from - Ajax want him but cannot afford his wages and a fee - he will end up walking and we have never earned any of the fee back - his loans just covered some or all his wages from what I can tell without any additional fee.
-we need cash to cover existing commitments/obligations, even for settling accounts on players we have sold, particularly those bough from English clubs. A situation that will be exacerbated if MGG block factoring of incoming transfer fees, which I think they will. Those signed from abroad are not subject to the same constraints, making profitable deals like Odobert better for cashflow, we likely won't finish paying the initial fee for him for another two years.
- It is fair to say some players signed up for a different project
- if I am right about the scale of the loans it means £10m or so in interest (maybe more), we do not know if relegation means an enforced repayment or when that has to be made, with MSD it was July with MGG it could be the same or September or not at all
- buying new players requires upfront monies as down payments and if selling clubs believe our finances are challenged they may demand more up from
I do not expect ALK/VSL to be overly forthcoming on the situation, given how they have so far made it very difficult for us to have a clearer understanding, as always we have to wait for events to unfold and judge on the fragments we are given with what I refer to as deliberately obscured hindsight
Chester Perry wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 12:04 amI should add that if we made a significant loss last season then PSR will be a big concern when we report on this season to the EFL/PL in December 2025 - it may be that we have to watch that number closely all season - promotion costs the club very significant sums in bonuses and conditional transfer fees.

Trafford and Newcastle
Newcastle’s have a preference for a loan deal with a purchase obligation is a strategic move aimed at balancing their financial commitments while complying with PSR requirements.
