Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
That Laurent is a steady plodder at this level but well below what we had/have. Would be a very poor signing.
He's in his last year of his contract though so Alan probably thinks we can double the money on him.

I'm not sure what you are driving at? Newcastleclaret posted this morning that we wouldn't be able to put out a team. Think the poster you are arguing with just put up the squad to showm him/her that we could?alwaysaclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 4:39 pmBit strange then that it took you till 11-45 this morning to tell the original poster that we have a big squad.

Best part of 150m in sales and we are bidding 500k for a 29 year old cm and trying to loan a teams best player with just an option to buy.
Alan pace would get more respect if he held his hands up and said look we have over spent massively, we need to regroup and start again

Me too. I'd genuinely rather let kids play alongside what's left. Finish 17th or whatever, and bring some players through. Some Stoke reject for 1 million and his wage would make me more angry than nothing at all.jedi_master wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 4:48 pmLet’s not bother with signings if this is the extent of what can be expected. I’d rather flog the rest of the Crown Jewels, pay off the debt with the £150m and just try and stay up. At least then we’d be on the straight and narrow and who knows, we may well go up again some day by hook or by crook like we did in 08/09 and 13/14. Rather that than fritter what pennies we have away on clear barrel scrapes.

Huge wage and they've been desperate to offload him all summer to get him off the books - plus contract expires next summerVegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 4:50 pmwhen you consider some of the fee's we've got this is unreal business from Liverpool
Liverpool reach full agreement for proposed signing of Federico Chiesa from Juventus. Fee #LFC to pay #Juve £10m + £2.5m add-ons based primarily on team performance. 26yo travelling for medical ahead of completing transfer on 4yr contract

Has Pace gone off the script? Laurent is not someone we'll likely sell for a massive profit. Seems we'll need to find our next "100m player" somewhere else.

Laurent is the kind of signing you’re most likely to make when it becomes all about bodies at the end of the window.
We’re not prizing anyone’s top assets away at this juncture.

Exactly that. Alan Pace will wait until the January window opens before having a panic attack one way or the other.Culmclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 4:48 pmThat’s the level we are at now. Avoiding relegation is the target for this season
I posted this thought a few weeks ago now and it is looking more than likely as each day passes.
The idea that you wait until this late in the window before picking up transfer bargains is delusional. This isn’t Yellow Sticker hour at the local supermarket.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
To be fair, I assume Laurent would be signed as back up. That is of course assuming we aren't selling Brownhill.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Something that came on my mind. No disrespect to Humphreys who could be a decent signing, but if our finances are so tight, who actually decided that it was a clever idea to agree a deal worth more than 10 million for someone who probably won't even be a starter and plays in the only position where we actually have some depth?

Rumours that the Whittaker stuff is actually just agent talk trying to get him a move, so row x could well be bang on about trying to spot moles

By the way, Paul Joyce (very reliable) just tweeted Ipswich are interested in Edouard from Palace. Surely that means they haven't agreed a deal for Foster with us.

To be fair, he came in just before all Hell broke loose. Something has clearly significantly altered with our finances (be that inability to comply with PSR/FFP, loan repayments being higher than assumed or something else along these lines) around ten-twelve days ago.ervi34 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 4:57 pmSomething that came on my mind. Otherwise yes, he does seem an utterly mental signing (particularly so when you consider Swansea fans say he wasn’t that good either).

Now that there are actual rumours of signings, most are still trying to take an angle that fits their agenda. I'm far from pleased with what's going on, but some of the stuff thrown at the club and Pace at the minute is pathetic. As usual, most are relishing in the negativity.

Back to the days of signing players from Stoke. We must be skint.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I actually really liked Laurent at Reading, brings something we don’t have in midfield, big strong driving force. Talented player just hasn’t found out how to put it all together yet and I didn’t realise he’s 29 years old.

I know. Let’s wait and see the strength of the team sheet and bench on Saturday to see if we are still top 2 contenders before rushing to judgement.Ipreferaflan wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 5:05 pmNow that there are actual rumours of signings, most are still trying to take an angle that fits their agenda. Why’s this a drama queen response?
Given the way things have been going it suggests to me that Brownhill may well not be here come the weekend. He’s not a link that fills me with confidence .

Re Laurent.
I’ve no idea if he’s any good or not. He’s not the flash signing we have become accustomed to, but Alex Neil made him Stoke captain and before that he was Reading’s player of the season.
The squad lacks leaders. He’s a physical presence (he’s 6 foot 2).
Sensible if unspectacular signing which doesn’t mean flair players aren’t joining.
I’d say give him chance if he joins.
Everything doesn’t have to be s**t.

Just had a chat with two guys, I am going to the match with on Saturday. According to them the plan is to sell so we can balance the books buy so we can stay in the league and then AkL aim to sell club in the summer.

Makes no sense them selling in the Championship. We’re worthless there.

Or would you rather Brownhill left and we had someone who’s got experience of this league and of being a captain in place ready for the rest of the season?
You’ve already decided Brownhill has left, so those are your two options

I’m more hoping that the selling has stopped and Brownhill stays.
I haven’t decided that he has already left at all, rather that the current trend seems to be our first team players have been leaving and/or big speculation around their futures.
A third option

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Some people were saying they would take Cork back but are moaning at the thought of having someone 5/6 years younger who will do the same job (Laurent). Break up play and give it to a runner (Hannibal) or a ball player (Cullen), he’s also got an eye for goal from distance. Good squad player for cheap.
