At absolute best the lad is low end championship midfielder. If he’s coming in as back up I’m not particularly fussed. Don't worry everyone, Alan Pace can't explain our transfer approach at the moment but if you knew you would be saying 'oh my goodness, this is incredible'

Sell the club? You're forgetting it took Garlic years and a lot of financial shenanigans to get a sale - when we were in the premiership. There's no way they can think we'll just sell up in the summer as recent evidence is no one is chomping at the bit to buy Burnley. They have made a bed they are going to have to lie in.

Not a single person is relishing watching Burnley sell Muric, Berge, Amdouni, Al-Dakhil, O’Shea, Twine, Odobert, Zaroury, Gudmundsson (and possibly Brownhill, Koleosho and Foster) and trying to sign Josh Laurent with the funds. I promise you. Pace deserves any criticism he gets at the moment as long as it sticks to his stewardship of the club and not personal.Ipreferaflan wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 5:05 pmNow that there are actual rumours of signings, most are still trying to take an angle that fits their agenda. I'm far from pleased with what's going on, but some of the stuff thrown at the club and Pace at the minute is pathetic. As usual, most are relishing in the negativity.

I don't get the point in shipping someone like Bastien out if we're signing plodders like Laurent. Unless Bastien also wanted out. None of this makes any sense at all - I can only think we are absolutely up the creek financially at this stage.

If we were just trying to sign this Laurent I’d understand but it conveniently misses out the other players we have signed and are clearly trying to sign.
It’s a worrying time but cherry picking information to make it sounds worse doesn’t do anyone any good.

How does it? Do you want me to add in that we tried to sign Morgan Whittaker by offering to take him on loan with an option to buy him? Hannibal is a good signing, nobody knows what’s going on with Anthony and Sarmiento. The Laurent news is clearly just the current topic of discussion.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 5:49 pmThat just reinforces the post you quoted.

This feels like Dale Stephens Mark 2- even the reaction from some is the same.
If it looks like a bad signing, smells like a bad signing, and sounds like a bad signing- Then it's a bad signing. For those that saying we'd need to sign a "captain" we don't. Other than being a body can anyone explain why they think this guy would even be a decent signing on a free?
We need to sign adequate players for the level we are at- this is not it. Given we're having to get rid of a shed load of fringe players I'm not convinced it makes sense to go and get more. We need quality, not just bodies.

Surely if we really want the guy we offer £8m plus Obafemi.
Or 8 mill up front plus 2m or Obafemi at the end of the saeson.
Not sure about the lad Laurent but it goes against our whole recruitment structure.
Maybe its just made up....hopefully.

The Whittaker thing might be complete and utter nonsense ? The make up of the deal certainly sounds that way
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I've been pretty negative on our business but the Laurent signing is a decent one as long as he's just being brought in for depth. Cheap, experienced, leader and good presence in the dressing room that is cover across the midfield.
That's on the proviso he's not a replacement for Brownhill.

There is clearly creative accounting going on in most transfers nowadays. But again it’s something you’ve picked to be negative about, which is what the original post was calling out.

Laurent would give us something different in midfield. I remember Huddersfield fans saying Arfield was useless and Tresor came with glowing references. I’d prefer to see them play for us first.

I’m struggling to know if all of the sales are because of the fallout from the WhatsApp message, or if we are as desperate for cash as the sales suggest.
If the former, would we really have shifted on so many? If the latter, perhaps the former helped to speed up some exits.
Whatever it is - barring a miracle - this season has been flushed down the pan.
Alan loves this club, he’s all over every detail, trust the process - oh just **** off! He fell fortunate with Kompany in year one, since then, it’s been a catalogue of stupidity.

Putting aside all of the other cash we brought in, would the Weghorst and Amdouni loan money not pretty much pay for Whittaker? It’s not like we’ll have to pay it all up front either.
If we want him, go and get him!

Can’t speak for Benfica’s finances but I thought that deal was terrible for us. I don’t see it speaking an opinion as negative, it’s just saying how I feel about what on paper looks like poor business this summer. The alternative is to lie or say nothing. We clearly disagree, and that’s fine. Like anybody else we can only judge how we look overall when we see the line up against Blackburn on Saturday.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 6:01 pmNo it doesn’t. I find the hanging on to announcements as an insult to the fan base. Just get them announced as soon as they are done just like all the Clubs who have bought our players over the last few weeks.
The time for social media BS is not needed now, given the desperate situation we are in.

If it was the ridiculous loan option surely they would be saying the structure wasn't right or words to that effect, not just the valuation

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
We have already contracted Obafemi to Plymouth for a season long loan, with fee details agreed. We can't just rip up that contract and throw him in for a deal for Whittaker now. If we want him, offer the cash and get him. No time for other options.

We’ve had plenty of these, and guess what…. They’ve often turned out to be integral cogs in a TEAM….. Graham Alexander, Steven Thompson, David Jones, Scott Arfield….. all lower half champ at best, players who actually transformed the way the TEAM played.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 5:40 pmAt absolute best the lad is low end championship midfielder. If you’re going to grow precious roses, you need a load of soil
And manure….. rose bulbs don’t grow that well if they’re in a bag of bulbs.
Good to see a spine being built in the team…. keeper, Worrall, potentially this lad, add to the solidity that your flair players can go and play in.
I’m as frustrated as most with the sales and the mess, but to be negative about everything is a waste of energy.
