Twice he's refused to play in the Championship. I would have really liked him to stay because I think he's a good player. But he can sod off.
Almost all the club's "top division" players have refused to play in the Championship when BFC has been relegated.

At the end of the 2020/21 season a number of players left the club including Maxwel Cornet and Nathan Collins who had joined the summer before. Wout Weghorst didn't leave, he went on loan so that he could maintain his chance of playing for Netherlands. A loan to a club in a top division was one of the contract terms when WW signed for BFC in January 2021.

It's the same at the end of the 2023/24, lots and lots of players leaving, almost all of them signed when Vincent Kompany was the club's manager.

It was good to see Wout's cameo at Luton, including his celebration with the fans at the end of the game. It was also good to see Wout encouraging Scott Parker to do a second fist pump in celebration of the 1-4 win.

Not really sure how we could have made a profit on him.

Bearing in mind his pedigree and background he had to be our top earner by a mile. I’d be surprised given what happened whether he had a relegation clause.

Other than the Beskitas / Man United loan fees do we have the details of what the other fees were ?
Does the loan fee not just cover his wages ? (It’s also often the case for high earners that the other club only play part of his wage).

At the outset we will also have had to pay a significant signing on fee and agents fees - both of which are likely to have been significant.

That's why I asked the question earlier, but apparently there are people on here who know we've actually made a profit!

No class from Wout don’t be daft .
We went down the first time because he was not good enough
He went on loan on a purely selfish mission but again wasn’t productive enough for the wages he got
What did he bring to the table in all those many months at Burnley absolutely nothing

Shame he didn't score at Villa. That's my only memory in a Burnley shirt

Did absolutely nothing wrong for me. You can't say he made a bad choice, he ended up at man united and now Ajax. He's a valuable player for Netherlands, and tbh seems like a nice fella.

The timing of his signing was just rotten, we were in total freefall under dyche when he came in. Had we signed him a few years earlier I think everyone would have a very different view of him. He's not the dud player people make him out to be on here, that's for sure

Nothing. But that's not his fault, I can't say anything he's done is something I wouldn't do either. He's always been respectful and honest. It's a shame it didn't work out, but as I said above that was timing more than anything.

To say we went down because of him is utterly ridiculous.

Is it possible he was happy to play for us last season but VK didn't want him?

Very good

Hoping for the End of a Tresor now too
Much more useful player than the ineffectual Mike Tresor. Hated on this forum since he missed the chance at Villa.
Dutch international, but hey these clever uptheclarets types knew he was a dud from the off.
Goodbye Wout. I’m sure you weren’t bothered about a few pricks who didn’t rate you and best wishes for your future career at Ajax.

With the way he's banged on about the premier league since the day he signed, I'd say this is a distinct possibility.
