If we end the window with Foster, a past it Jay Rod and an unproven Hountondji as our strikers, then we are going to really struggle.

Remember when we needed a goal scorer in 22/23? That worked out well.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
To be fair we said the same 2 years ago when it was Barnes and Jay.
Before the btards game everyone said Barnes was finished.
I’d love it if history repeated itself tomorrow with Jay

I agree. It is a bit odd we're bidding for the likes of Whittaker and Flemming on the last day. I mean it's not as if Amdouni leaving could have been a shock to anyone the day we got relegated.

Jay Rod is the opposite of that and deserves a bit more respect than is shown to him. If you think it's fair to bundle him in with the likes of Vitinho, who is pretty much the only one I criticise consistently then that's up to you.
Personally I think he deserves more than that. How many players have we had born and raised in the town that have gone on to represent their country and then come back to represent their hometown club for a second time. He could have left numerous times since he re-signed and in the end has chosen loyalty each time.

Is that right? Crikey well there's hope! Slight difference is that Tella came straight to the champ from the prem, whereas Sarmiento has had a crack in the champ with Ipswich and didn't get many. But who knows. Anthony has a goal in him too if you look at his Bournemouth record rather than his Leeds one.
My biggest hope tbh, is that Foster stays fit starts to deliver on some promise.

Look, here is a fact for you. He’s not good enough at this level. He’s been really good, but now he isn’t. He’ll get a few if he gets some games, maybe a couple of headers from corners, but anyone suggesting we have a 15+ goal scorer (what we are likely to need for a serious promotion push) in Jay Rod is having a mare….
And if we don’t announce another striker, I hope to holy Christ I’m wrong, and if I am, good. Because that means he’s helped us have a good season, which is what we all want really.

Again nonsense. It's only a few months since he got a chance to come on away at Chelsea and was absolutely terrific. He's still more than useful if we play into his chest and his feet, his touch and ability is of a much higher standard than this level.claret2018 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 5:10 pmBut he’s useless as a footballer now, and has been for a while. If we are expecting him to be the number 9 this season then it's just ridiculous all round. He should be used as a number 10 mainly or as a false 9 and be more of a rotation option. It's very unlikely that he can play every week and stay fit.

Provided we don’t sell anybody else today and Laurent & Sarmiento come in as expected. Where else do we need to improve?
Green, Trafford, Hladky
Sambo, Roberts
Ekdal, Beyer, Worrall, CJER, Esteve, Delcroix, Humphries
Dodgson, Pires
Cullen, Brownhill, Massengo, Hannibal, Laurent, Ramsey
Redmond, Sarmiento, Benson, Anthony, Koleosho, Agyei
Foster, Jay, Hountodj.
This excludes Tresor. Actually looking better than I expected. Would still like another attacking player personally and a versatile player that can play cover right and left back.

I think we are quite a lot short in terms of quality if we want to finish top 2. With that squad I'd say we we will be I'm a fight for 6th and a play off spot which isn't exactly what we were all hoping for.

But he is struggling to produce anything out of the dressing room, on the pitch
An additional striker should have been signed by now given we already knew the situ with WW and ZA weeks ago
Side note:- Ipswich still trying for a striker, this time Latte Lath at Boro

Bring in over 100 mill not including parachute oayments and spend about 10 including a 500k plodder from Stoke. Utterly dreadful
And managed to get rid of a lot of accumulated deadwood, who were mostly lacking any kind of desire to play for this famous football club.
Roll on tommorow hopefully 11 on the pitch and 9 on the bench who are prepared to go the extra mile, and not cave in soon as things get tough

Burnley sign Brighton winger Sarmiento
Burnley have signed Ecuador international Jeremy Sarmiento on a season-long loan deal from Brighton.
The 22-year-old winger helped Ipswich achieve promotion to the Premier League last season and will now spend the 2024/25 campaign at Turf Moor.

Jay is showing he is not up to it any more, but if as it looks we are not getting an out and out striker he will be utilised. I think the most we can expect from Jay is coming on with about 20 minutes to go when we are trying to manage the lead and the game. He then needs to play like he did at Chelsea last year when he came on. He held the ball brilliantly then and brought players in to the game. Expect him to play and unsettle defenders and put himself about then NO, as he clearly showed against Wolves second team. The other role he has is keeping players motivated and feeling loved. Its imperative Foster is now kept motivated and the club show him care-hopefully the likes of Jay and Josh can give Foster renewed confidence in his own ability

They could just be preparing announcement videos…
More likely it’s what you said…

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Much as I like Jay and can appreciate his influence around the dressing room, his legs are gone. He cleverly nicked the ball around a defender on Wednesday, but the defender had loads of time to turn and catch up to the ball well ahead of Jay.
It will be criminal if we don't bring in another forward, since we have no idea how many games we will get out of Foster, and he scored only 1 goal last time we were in the league. We need another Tella like loan at the last minute.
