Benson ?

Post by The Shire Claret » Sun Sep 01, 2024 4:37 pm

Sorry if there is already a topic, I have looked but can’t see one

I must have missed it but what happened ?

Didn’t look like anything then he’s hobbling off the pitch ?

Starting to wonder if he’s got this injury for good hence him not being given the chances we think he should have

Also why he may not have got his move

As always I wish him well but doesn’t look good for him

He does it far too much, doing the sub motion to come off.

Needs to toughen up

I was more on the thought that whatever it is doesn’t end up him having to take an early retirement.

If he can’t play a lot of minutes … no one is going to want to sign him and we won’t renew his contract.

Doubt very much he wanted whatever happened to happen

£3m I think.

He’s already repaid that.

He does come across as if he’s made of glass! Sat really close to where it happened and it was such an innocuous challenge, there didn’t seem to be any twists on his knees ect. Have to say he doesn’t seem to have any fight in him.

I think, whilst having only seen it from the Jimmy Mac upper the once, He’s finished with us. I think he didnt want to be on the pitch and reducing us to 10 men will have not gone down well with SP.

Of course, I could be completely wrong.

He scored some belters in the promotion season but yesterday he was completely ineffective.
He must drive managers mad.

Will win us 5+ points over a season with 15 minute cameos. Didn’t come off for him yesterday and he hasn’t got enough in his locker for the PL but he will come in handy off the bench this season.

Was amazed it took the physios so long to get up from the bench and go and treat him.

Some amazing goals in his promotion season cutting in and shooting from the corner of the box, problem is that’s all he wants to recreate now- the trademark shot.

Wonder if this is his doing or what he is being asked to do. Could be overthinking his game too much.

I think Brownhill’s reaction was quite telling - he didn’t seem too impressed with the amount of time we were losing to Benson being sat on the floor and gestured as if to say either stay on the pitch or sub yourself off. Brownhill then gestured to the bench to make a sub, which of course we couldn’t.

I’m not suggesting that Benson was feigning an injury, but Brownhill’s reaction suggested to me that he wasn’t convinced - and it does make me question how committed he is to the cause. This feeling is backed up by various comments I’ve seen about his attitude in training etc.

I can’t see him featuring much at all under Parker, and in many ways it was a strange substitution and one that I can only assume was in the superstitious type of hope that he’d recreate the winner at Ewood.

Putting him and Rodriguez on took us effectively down to 9 men.

Cheers for info - didn’t think there could have been much in it

I did walk off wondering if he will ever see any minutes for us again

It’s a strange one but maybe this niggling injury with his ankles are worse than we know

Clubs don’t give out think info anymore to protect the players I guess

I’m stunned how many doctors we have on here. Diagnosing from one viewing.
He was garbage but having hardly been on the pitch for 16 months he needs games.

Biggest disappointment for me in window that we dident shift him. Talented lad … but far too soft and always looking to get off pitch. Guaranteed to get injured. Finished with us now after sat.

I've lost count of how many times he's hobbled about after a tackle and wanted to go off. Waste of a wage. Such a shame.

It looked like he had cramp in his hamstring to me, if that’s the case he’s miles off fitness and that’s embarrassing. Also fits in with the rumours he’s not committed in training

The fact the rovers left back was actively showing benson the line to run down with his right foot and benson refused, had benson gone down the line a couple of times the left back then stops showing him the line and gives him
The chance to cut in.

Can’t be too harsh when he hasn’t played much football for 12 months

He did this… the rolling around and signalling to the bench to come off only to make a miraculous recovery… numerous times during the promotion season, it’s nothing new. I do find it odd, most players tend to play down injuries not to be taken off.

I think the reaction from the rest of the players was significant. Not one of them came over to check him out or help him off the pitch as is normal practice.

However good he was in the last Championship season, for which I was very happy, I wouldn't be bothered if I never saw him in a Burnley shirt again. Doesn't seem to want to play for us at all, or even play at all!

Every defender he’s up against shows him down the line, that’s what made his ability to find space on his left foot by cutting inside so impressive. When he’s fit he would breeze past them down the line, but more often than not could still work it inside. Remember Pearson at Bristol City saying they doubled up on him and he still worked it onto his left foot and put it in the far corner.

He kept pointing to his knee. Brownhill, as stated, cut him no slack. Get yourself off, eas about it and he is the captain.

Seems that Mr Benson either has a dodgy knee or fears injury from being kicked. (Something tricky wingers have to expect. Look what Koleosho took!)

The physios didn't seem to make any effort to treat him. Perhaps on instruction. Pity we didn't manage to shift him, if that is what he wants.

Hope he gets his head in gear and deserves the welcome onto the pitch he got yesterday.

In fairness Scott gave him a run out, and will be a lot wiser about Benson. He was given a lot of the ball but looked absolutely shot in confidence. As someone said above you cannot carry him AND Jay playing at the same time. At least we now have options with Redmond hopefully fit soon and Fleming once he is over his injury

Look at Esteve as the opposite end of the spectrum. Did his hammy, told ref he was fine and continued while asking for a sub - not letting the side down.

If you’re Benny and had the sum total of 2.4 minutes in the last 12 months. You get brought on with ten mins to go and nows your time to show the new boss what you can do.

Oh wait a minute.

I simply can not believe some of the comments on here about Benson. Short memories and brain cells. He literally won us the league with his goals last time in the Championship.

We know he can do it in this league - he is proven.

A match winner and a Claret and a legend after that goal at Deadwood - remember that ?????

Back the lad - just a thought !!

Not buying into that. Apparently he wont train. Wanted to join Leeds.
Imagine selling Benson and buying Whittaker.

It was definitely Roberts who told him to get off the pitch if he couldn’t carry on. He had no sympathy for him as he wanted to win the game. To be fair to Benson they doubled up on him to stop him cutting inside so the opposition obviously thought he was a threat. Like other posts have said you can’t just expect someone to come on with 15 minutes to go and win you a game when they aren’t match fit and probably very low on confidence.

He needs to feel wanted then he will put a shift in. Kicking him after 12 months of being shunned by Kompany won’t help anybody.

Well I'm really pleased we didn't sell him . He's a match winner. We all know that.

I was close by in the Longside. He was seriously injured. So couldn't continue. But you could see other players believe in him . They kept playing to him after he came on.

Twice got into his favourite goalscoring position. Also put in some good right foot crosses.

We will all be pleased with some match winning moments to come.

Thought he did well. Quickly learned they were doubling up on him so he went outside instead a few times. They couldn't win the ball from him.

If a player is good enough to have two opponents marking him when they are already down to 10 men then it's the rest of the teams issue (or a tactics issue)for not making enough space elsewhere.

Wow, this message board never ceases to amaze me. A player who has essentially hardly played for over a year and has been hampered with injury this year gets criticism for coming on for 15 minutes and not being the player he once was. I’m certain some posters have very limited intellect or are not actually Burnley fans.
