Lancs league title decider at Darwen
Weather forecast for Sunday is not looking good at all. Rain forecast pretty much all day. Advantage Burnley if forecast is correct

Yes, weather forecast isn't great and it would be such a shame if the title is decided by the weather when it's all set up for a winner takes all finish.

As much as I'd like Burnley to win it, I'd prefer it were decided on the pitch at Darwen this afternoon rather than by the weather.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 7:57 amYes, weather forecast isn't great and it would be such a shame if the title is decided by the weather when it's all set up for a winner takes all finish.

Re: Lancs league title decider at Darwen
I don't dislike Darwen, I know folk try to bring the Burnley v Blackburn element into it but I've not really heard any of those sort of comments at Lowerhouse games I've been at, I can only imagine it's different with Burnleys games due to the name and being classed as the towns team.
I was considering having a few hours at the game today, two good sides, with not much between them. Shame about the delayed start to the season, the weather's been poor yet again this year.

Re: Lancs league title decider at Darwen
I agree that it would be better to settle the title by playing the match in a full game. However I hope it doesn’t come down to a minimum over slog decided by the toss. Burnley have been the better team ( marginally ) over the first 21 games and deserve to be Champions unless Darwen can beat them in a full or slightly reduced game. There have been some very weird D/L targets already this season !!

I believe these days it's all worked out by computer so it's not possible to blame umpires or scorers for flawed calculations. The computer reduces the overs in line with the time lost to rain and then sets the target.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 12:19 pmThere is nothing weird about DLS targets, it’s how it works.

At least it might give us the opportunity to visit new clubs in the LCB competition.

Re: Lancs league title decider at Darwen
It will. The Ron Singleton Trophy being the Lancs League equivalent of the Charity Shield where cup winners take on league winners in the pre season curtain raiser. (It's in no way a serious pointer as to who's the stronger team or who's going to fair better when the league starts. That is unless 'Ouse win!!

Re: Lancs league title decider at Darwen
How is it decided? Do the teams decide or is it a toss of a coin by the league?
Congratulations to Burnley. A real shame a potentially exciting finish has been spoilt by the weather. However when looking at the league table..and going off what i've seen this season just watching Lowerhouse..I would say the league table is bang on from top to bottom.
We never really recovered from losing 3 of the first 4 games and then Rochdale away aside we didn't really throw one in which is an improvement for us.
Only Burnley really got on top of our batting lineup in both games. 4 of their 5 main bowlers are outstanding and strangle teams run rates. Well deserved.

Congratulations Burnley.
No team scored more than 200 against them… that’s how they’ve won it.
Roll on the Charity Shield next year.
Just 7 months of dullness to put up with now.

Re: Lancs league title decider at Darwen
I think a lot has been made about the low amount of runs they score (I was in that camp at the half way stage)
But if you're bowling sides out easily enough, you'll not need runs or get chance to score them if batting second.
I think when you look at that Burnley side they're solid from 1-11.
Really enjoyed watching Lowerhouse at all levels this season despite the weather, always hate the season finishing and finding ways to fill my Sundays.
Next season should be a good one

Given the weather at the start of the season it’s quite a fitting way it’s ended.
Disappointing as a shoot out would have been great.

Amazingly Padiham haven't had a game rained off this season, after the season was delayed.
The weather seems to have been far better on Saturdays than Sundays this year. Still have two weekends left to get through though.

I'm sure that Burnley would have wanted to play and win today. It's always a bit of an anti-climax when it ends this way.
Nonetheless Burnley thoroughly deserve to be champions. Over the season they have been the best team in the league and I expect them to be there or thereabouts all next season too.

preferable to actually play a game of cricket. A crying shame for
all concerned.

Always a good sign, if a first team squad is strong then those on the fringes of the team with lots of experience should be playing 2nds and helping the youngsters develop.
Unfortunately some just wont play 2nd 11 cricket
