ARTICLE: New five year deal for Estève
Re: ARTICLE: New five year deal for Estève
Brilliant interview, you can't but help like him. But...who is the old guy at the club ? Pace ?
Re: ARTICLE: New five year deal for Estève
Does he have a sort of cast on his right lower arm?

Exactly.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 5:42 pmThe key for me in this is that both parties have to agree there is a benefit to them, or no contract would be signed.
So BFC simply won’t do anything that worsens their position (unless someone messes up). Usually the player gets a pay rise in this division (unusual if not) so that means the player bas something they want, so BFC must then get something they want. Tying down for an extra year or so doesn’t feel enough.
I’m thus relaxed about exit clauses.
He was tied down to 2028 anyway. Why on earth would we put a release clause in a contract (if one didn’t exist anyway), just to extend for an extra year?
It makes no logical sense whatsoever.
I’m not saying some don’t exist. Maybe they do and they don’t kick in till next window, so we’ve paid him more now to move that out a year or increase the amount?
I think it is more likely just about recognising he’s a key player for us, paying him more now, or incentivising him more for promotion (what his salary will increase to if promoted) or both.
Either way, great to have him tied down.

Just as importantly it looks like the majority of those who didn't want to be here are gone and those that are here are up for the battle.

Wonderful news, a cracking player and he seems a cracking lad.
A pay rise and thank you for staying, whislt the player knows that if Odobert esc money comes in then we wont stand in the players way. Suits all parties. Player gets the rise we get the opportunity / security to ask for more money due to contract length.

very much so, I really hope they are trying to get Brownhill to sign a new deal but I would imagine that would be hard at this stage - that would be the icing on the cake in terms of new deals for me.

Love hearing Esteve speak.
I think he genuinely cherishes this club (for reasons he stated in the interview) and is the sort of bloke that likes to make his nest somewhere for a while before moving on.
Really great news.

Possibly but maybe notPoulton-le-Claret wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 3:19 pmGreat news but surely the only reason for this and Koleosho's deal is to agree release clauses in case we don't go up.
It’s about keeping the young, exciting players on good deals so we have the upper hand when clubs come calling for them
Something we’ve often failed to do in the past

I am sensing Pace may have finally started listening to Matt Williams. We need 5 or 6 to be the guys who really buy into this project. Bit of steel and a bit of flair. Reward them as such and fingers crossed we get promoted come the end of the season

Re: ARTICLE: New five year deal for Estève
Got to love Burnley fans....
Young promising player that the fans have built an affiliation for signs a new deal showing his commitment to the club.
Club do interview with said player. Player clearly is enjoying being at the club, basically explaining how he thinks everything is wonderful. Makes jokes about how he was slow on the Steeeeveee chant. Clearly says he wants to play for this club for a long time...
We have a load of posts on here debating the motivation of a player signing and how it could only be because it gives him an out that he didn't have before.
How about looking in the round with the other signings - perhaps we are showing the players that we value them and want to build a team around them etc. Perhaps someone listened to Dave Checketts....
Im delighted he has committed to the club and that he is loving his time here.

Mods pleas delete this article immediately. We can't have this kind of positivity on here, it will ruin some contributors weekend and could also damage their mental health if coupled with a win at DL

Re: ARTICLE: New five year deal for Estève
I love Christmas

As I said, it is great news, hopefully he stays for the full 5 years. In reality, most players prioritise their own careers and it seems only logical to me that a top player like Esteve wouldn't want more than one season in the championship. So it seems likely his agent would get a release clause in the deal in case we don't get promoted. Release clauses aren't bad for us anyway, means we are more likely to get an agreed sum for a player and less likely to let players leave on the cheap.
Still confident we go up and any such clause doesn't get used

Agree on both points mate - would like Josh to sign but also expect it to be hard now.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 7:28 pmvery much so, I really hope they are trying to get Brownhill to sign a new deal but I would imagine that would be hard at this stage - that would be the icing on the cake in terms of new deals for me.
Doing deals the way we have with Esteve, when they have plenty of time left for a payrise to make it worthwhile for them, is a much better way.

People are gonna lose their minds when Trafford signs a new 5 year deal on Monday
This is great news. Securing the future and spine of a long term ‘project’
Certainly he’s the potential to go on to play for France one day. Hopefully as a Burnley player

Great news and the type of player and character you can build a team around.
The club appear to be getting a lot of things right at the moment.

Re: ARTICLE: New five year deal for Estève
Love the guy but there is zero chance he is becoming a regular for the France national team at any point. This is just realism. Let's not build up our players too much. I remember Beyer was going to be Germany captain according to some on here. As seen by the levels last season, it is absolute terrifying the difference between the elite guys and what we think are terrific players for us.
Let's enjoy him as a Burnley player, not hold out our hopes on him becoming some national team player, the longer he doesn't get picked, the longer he flies under the radar, the longer we get to keep him

To say he only joined us, an awfully struggling team, in January, I thought he stood head and shoulders above others and didn't look out of place at all in the Premier LeagueCleveleys_claret wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 9:27 amLove the guy but there is zero chance he is becoming a regular for the France national team at any point. He has carried his great form into this season, obviously at a lower level but he will be very much a key player in getting us back up, where I'm sure he will continue to excel and gain the international recognition he will have earned.
