Greavesy always comes out with a great one liner (usually Bobby Ball related);
Last week ‘is it Bobby Ball’s assistants or Bobby’s Ball assistants?’
This week… ‘I believe we are in for Tom Cannon…’

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Looked for it on Apple Podcasts but it had apparently been transferred to Google on loan with a cheap option to buy, like the rest of the darn club.
(luckily you can click on the main page and on the website link we can find the latest episode. I was 🫣 but they were a tad more positive than I’m feeling)

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Well I enjoy the podcast and yes there may be the odd phrase/word repetition but how can there not be when it’s about the never-ending world of football? I personally think it helps create the characters for the listeners.
I’d wager a lot of the nitpickers would be erm erm erming their sweaty heads off if they were ever to be invited on the podcast as a guest (which they won’t). Don’t we all have friends/family that have the little sayings, words they use probably a bit too much (etcetera)? Do you moaners make sure to always pick them up on it? In public? Probably not any more, doubt they still want to speak to you

What caused the change in intro music, licensing issues? Thought I was listening to the wrong thing when the generic music came on.

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
I still think of Burnley when I hear Jimmy Mullen's claret and blue army.
Be a shame if they changed it to the current terrible one because of that. Or they could have just snipped those final few seconds of the intro.
Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Also, it would be really good if everyone else was muted whilst someone was talking so you don't get all the echo.

I reckon they're waiting for somebody to suggest a patreon for Friday's and special ex player interviews..... they could call it a membership scheme or something. And you get a free t-shirt when you sign up.
Either that, or Greavesey's new pub is now the only place to hear their insights......

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
I thought I'd give this a prod seeing as the Pod Squad couldn't be bothered.
Anyway ratings Chris 7 out of 10 because he doesn't like ratings and everyone else 6 out of ten due to a bit of a lack of effort mentioned above.
Overall, SP has a job to do getting a tune out of these four. A lot of midfield congestion in this episode and good deal of doubling up on the wide men.

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Good episode. Agree with Woody things looked better on Saturday. Sharper slicker passing and decent movement.
Two great moves got Anthony and Moustachio in and Anthony delivered some very good crosses.
If the 'really really rubbish ' Chris Wood (1 in 3 for Burnley, 7 in 9 for Forest) had been playing we would have won by a hatful.
Ultimately, you can analyse things to death but if a bike hasn't got a rider it ain't going nowhere. If a Boris hasn't got a moral backbone he's going to get caught out lying about drinking Pimms in the garden when he should been locked down (or locked up depending on your politics).
Similarly, if you ain't got a striker we are going to struggle to score. Anthony snatches at shots, so does Flemming and there is no presence in the box.
A couple of of elbows in the neck from Barnesy and Cook would have felt less happy flinging himself around.
You can't have 16 corners reasonably well delivered and make the point there were no chances. The fact that 11 players in Claret had clearly swapped their heads for sheriff's badges helped Cook and co a lot. And there is no point swinging crosses into the boxes if you have 2 The Rock Johnsons at centre half and 4 or 5 pee wee Hermans challenging them.
It's a tough nut to crack for Parker. I think they should get Barnsey back for a sh*thousery boot camp - if in doubt against a big un stick yer *rse out and roll your shoulders get a free kick' .

I couldn't remember his name but there is only one member of the team who has been sporting a big moustache who got stopped by a splendid last ditch challenge on Saturday. Albeit it's now gone.

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Thought this was superb on the latest pod from Justin.
I mean, I’m not making excuses. I don’t think it’s fair to say it’s a young side—because, you know, it isn’t. The issue is that it’s a new side, in the sense that a lot of these players joined the squad during that chaotic transfer window. But we keep coming back to this metaphor Simon came up with—about giving a child a box of matches and being surprised when he burns the house down. It’s all self-inflicted.
You can’t rip up the squad and reinvent it, and then, two months later, use that as an excuse for why things aren’t going well on the pitch. They did it; it’s their fault. They tore up the squad, sold all those players, and brought in these new ones. To use that as an excuse for poor performance just shows me there’s no plan, no sense of progression.

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
Just listened to this and I think the focus on the fact that we should have beaten Millwall was over egged. It is never an easy game and in fact we didn’t win there under VK late in the 101 point season. By all means focus on the lack of creation and low xg etc but to suggest it is an easy game that we should be winning is misguided. I remember a game there under Dyche that we drew too. They were on an unbeaten run too and are clearly a difficult team to beat.
I actually think Parker needed to make a change at halftime given how they had got on top after the linesman change. We certainly needed to start the second half as we did the first so I think he was tactically at fault there. I don’t, however, think it was as bad as made out in the podcast and Millwall away is never a game where you judge a season.

Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
I agree with your sentiment on the Millwall result. We are Burnley. We shouldn't be expecting to beat teams like Millwall away just "because". However, we can use it as a barometer of where we are, especially when we combine it with very poor performances against QPR, Oxford, Plymouth, PNE etc. It's becoming the norm rather than the exception. That's the really worrying element.Hibsclaret wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2024 9:36 amJust listened to this and I think the focus on the fact that we should have beaten Millwall was over egged. Re: Brilliant New Burnley Podcast
I think it's a combination of the continuing (and worsening) poor performances, and the fact that given we're dropping a lot of points at home in winnable games, there's more pressure to pick up points even in trickier away games, rather than just the result in isolation.
