Champions league league starts this evening

Post by chekhov » Tue Sep 17, 2024 5:46 pm

I thought I would read an explanation of the new format. Got about half way through…

Here’s a good 1 minute video on it for those who don’t fancy reading the uefa rule book:

Extra matches for those competing. Will it lead to more excitement, or just to more complaints of fixture congestion and player burnout? I’m guessing the latter, but we shall see…

Is the AC Milan/Liverpool game only being shown
on Amazon Prime?

How on earth have VAR looked at Watkins ‘goal’ and come to the conclusion after viewing it on numerous occasions that he handballed it.

It will definitely lead to more player burnout & fixture congestion (Allison has been talking about it openly recently), but I think it'll make for some more interesting games in this early stage of the tournament and the fight for finishing as high as possible. There's the potential for some slipups with more games and consequently some big teams finishing in the playoffs and risk going out.

They are going to kill the goose that laid the golden egg.

Not watched Champions League for a few years now, would rather watch a Championship game.

My ex brother-in- law works for FIFA.
He knows Gianni Infantino, they are well aware that all these extra matches are controversial.
The English fans ( and Western Europe) opinion is near the bottom of the list when making decisions.

Dead competition. Imagine adding in more games just to reach the same conclusion of Real Madrid winning it.

There’s more English players in the AC Milan side than the Liverpool side. That can’t have ever happened before.

It must be well over 5 years since I watched a CL game also. I sort of watched the Liverpool v Spurs final. If I hadn't been out for a meal with friends I wouldn't have bothered with it at all.
Even when we were in the PL last season I watched more Championship games than Premier League games.

Tomori and Loftus-Cheek are so rubbish they'd never play for an English side playing in the Champions League.

Tomori isn’t rubbish. Loftus cheek doing well at Milan but I don’t rate him much. It’s quite sad though how far Milan and the like have fallen because although I like tomori, those players wouldn’t get a sniff 15-20 years ago at Milan.

No, he is! He had a great first full season and won the title, and was rightly getting involved with England, but since then he's been awful and is regularly at fault for goals. RLC bags an odd goal and shows odd bits now and then, but his general play is rubbish. He was embarassing that first half, could hardly control or pass it.
