Re: BFC managers - first signings
Dyche's was Tom Heaton I think, and it didn't go down to well on here.
Parkers might be a grey area, I think signings were made before he was unveiled.

I think Eddie Howe had organised the Richards signing before Dyche arrived (?)

Dyche used to always use that one to beat the fans with about Heaton but I don't think it was ever true. Most Burnley fans knew Heaton well because he used to always play really well against us. I don't think that many were unhappy with the signing, especially when it was the unpopular Grant he was replacing

I couldn’t remember if Laws first signing was Cort or Fox. Both hardly what we needed at the time but I suppose budgets were small at that point.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 9:01 pmMullen - Aidy Randall

Yep would be pretty stressful that!

For me, our weakest manager signing our weakest player.

How many others is it true for, that it wasn't really the manager's signing? I assume it applies to JBG and Twine

Heaton conceded 7 goals in 2 games for Bristol City playing against the Clarets, not sure about playing well, maybe just keeping the score down.Goliath wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 8:40 pmDyche used to always use that one to beat the fans with about Heaton but I don't think it was ever true. Think I remember him shipping four against us just before we signed him…. Hence one or two on here getting their knicks wet. Could easily have been ten but for him.

I can still picture Steve Morgan looking completely lost (not the only one that night) in that 6.0 home defeat by City. He was dreadful for us.

Never mind Man City. He looked lost in the pre season friendly at Elmore

Re: BFC managers - first signings
That’s because whenever he went forward and had an attempt on goal, the shot was that high, wide & powerful, it would destroy one of the wooden chairs in the CFSLincsWoldsClaret wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 7:28 amWas Steve Morgan the one Stan called ‘the dark destroyer’?

Re: BFC managers - first signings
The issue was his first four signings in the summer of 2013 were all goalkeepers. He brought in Heaton and Cisak to replace Grant and Jensen but there were also Nizic and Liversedge but those deals had already been sorted a year earlier when Howe was here and he had no option on them.Goliath wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 8:40 pmDyche used to always use that one to beat the fans with about Heaton but I don't think it was ever true. He would cope on his own, fortunately!

Michael Williams looked like he'd never played football before.

Re: BFC managers - first signings
I always thought that Woods was brought in as part of Waddle's back room staff and only played because we were doing so poorly (can't remember who else we had in goals that season) but I am perhaps mixing him up with Gordon Cowans?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 9:01 pmMullen - Aidy Randall

I think Woods was supposed to be more of a coach/backup but came in after we sold Beresford to Boro. I thought he did pretty well from what I remember.

Re: BFC managers - first signings
Pretty sure that was the season Bristol City went down and conceded over 100 goals which made the prospect of signing Heaton not that appetising to some. Add in the fact the anger from some fans for signing a released midfielder from Huddersfield.
