Scott Parker

Post by Superjohnnyfrancis » Mon Sep 23, 2024 2:10 pm

Must say regardless of playing style and the chairman selling most of his pre season team the guy is doing a great job so far.

Might not be the prettiest football but he is getting results in what must be incredibly difficult circumstances and he deserves a bit more respect for the job he’s done so far.

Well done Scott.

I wouldn't say he's doing a "great job" I would says he's doing a good job and feel comfortable with him in charge, but we'll have a lot better understanding of where we are come December.

Just think that given all the upheaval he’s doing a lot better than could be expected really. It’s going to take a full season before we see a team playing the way he wants it to really. He’s had to change the whole culture and team , he’s had someone in the background scrambling around paying off Wonga with most of his first team, hats off for that.

What do you think of his choice of captain?

How can you think he's doing a great job when he keeps picking Josh Brownhill, who you described as:

If he put as much effort into his game that he does to his haircut and eyebrows the guy would be a world beater.

I can’t remember a poorer captain for Burnley. Best he keeps away from statements and just continues to be anonymous running around.

He’s working with what’s he given, if and when we are promoted I’m hoping there are upgrades throughout the team, hopefully not funded by exorbitant credit.

He picked him ahead of Laurent and arguably Hanninal (who could have player a deeper role to allow Flemming to play).

He is also his captain.

He picks him through choice, not necessity.

Flemming was left on the bench due to his lack of playing time. When he's up to speed he will start.Parker selected to best team available.I agree with the OP that Parker is doing a superb job uto now and I don't believe any manager could have done better

I agree with the OP too (on Parker) but his opinion of his team selection is completely at odds with thinking he is doing a good job.

Not really, like any job there are people who go under the radar and contribute very little but just coast along.

Two relegations in four years tells its own story. Best to keep quiet and show your worth on the pitch I would say.

Even Kompany dropped him last season.

So Parker is allowing Brownhill to coast along and contribute nothing (other than 3 'tap ins' in 6) but is doing a great job? Sounds like gross negligence to me.

Parker is doing extremely well, although it's fair to say that having been dealt a really poor hand when his team was ripped apart after the first two games, he was then given a more than decent lifeline by us very quickly bringing in some good looking replacements. That said, all new teams need time to work together and to gel and that's going fairly well I'd say.
Regarding his team selection on Saturday: He had (imo) very little leeway because Humphreys was obviously suspended and Roberts injured, so nothing he could do there and the others had been part of an extremely tough away win at a perceived major rival which again limited his options, even if he had wanted to make changes.

Also we must remember to look at the tough fixtures we've had,Luton, Sunderland, Blackburn and Leeds, and we still have 13 points from 18.

I’m not going to comment too much, yet.

It’s a long season and far to early to heap praise or give any criticism whatsoever.

But I’d definitely say he’s come across so well and much better than I expected since coming in. Being straight-talking and getting involved in the community aspects goes a long way with fans.

He's done incredibly well.

13 points from 6 tough fixtures is a fantastic return, given the circumstances he was operating in.

And I've been very impressed by how he's conducted himself in interviews. Honest, experienced and well spoken.

Brownhill should not be underestimated. His contribution is huge. Several prem clubs want him. Largely unsung job, apart from his great engine enabling him to get forward and score occasionally.

My take is that Brownhill has the engine and positioning sense of Lampard, and the feet of Gifton Noel Williams

There seems to have been far more concentration on our struggles going forward than on our excellent defensive record with only four goals conceded in six games.

Lets stop knocking Parker-he was knew to our club, went on the pre-season overseas camp to get to know his team and work with them, then sees a huge exit including some of our best players. He has stayed positive, created the basis of a new team and given us the best points tally start in 20 years. At the same time he is very transparent, speaks the truth, and has recreated a great spirit in the camp. I dread what it would be like had VK stayed

We have dropped points only to the division’s wonder goal of the month and away to the then leaders when we didn’t have a team and every player was fed up and many were trying to leave.

That’s outstanding when we consider the away wins were away to Leeds and Luton.

I’m not going to split hairs about Parker when that is his record. He is doing fine.

Not openly knocking him, but several have raised questions on this post and others over his selections , style of play, choice of captain. Generally he is winning many over with his openness, transparency, and the way he has been conducting himself and getting the team onside. When you see the position we were in 7-10 days before the window closed then I feel he has done miracles-but accept he will be more fairly judged in May

I'd say it was his decision making which is his main weakness. In the final third he'll often attempt a pass which isn't on or a wild shot which relieves the opponent of all the pressure we have been trying to put in place. Or a pointless foul. His finishing has improved thisxseason with some nice goals and I think the box to box type suits him.

Decision making is possibly one of the more overlooked differentials when considering what makes a Premier League player vs one who doesn't (or at any level).

Brownhill - I gave him 9/10 on Saturday. Superb captaincy too!

I've not been overly impressed with his free kicks, but he does win the ball back well - usually interceptions from reading the game.
