Facebook Help

Post by FigSlice » Fri Sep 27, 2024 9:22 am

I am an administrator for our local gardening club's private Facebook group. About half of the Club's 70 members are registered to use the group. One of the ongoing issues for the Club are complaints about the lack of communication and information, e.g. meeting dates, speakers, plant sales etc, all of which are put on the Facebook page. I used to be able to view which Facebook members had viewed the messages (usually about half a dozen, rarely more than ten), so could rebut the lack of communication. I can lead the horse to water, but can't make it drink! This feature has disappeared and I cannot work out how to get it back. Any suggestions?

Where were you able to see this info? Do you use the Meta Business Suite section on Facebook for your page?

I used to be able to see "seen by" at the bottom of messages. Originally the names, but now only numbers on some messages. It is rare for members to comment on posts or even "like". On a couple of recent messages there has been one "like", but nothing shows as "seen by". To access the Group page I log on to my personal Facebook account, then go to "my shortcuts" to access the Group page. I didn't set up the group, it was done by another member during COVID so I don't know how it was done and I've never heard of the Meta Business Suite!

Not sure then. Maybe it's been changed to only showing insights and stats rather than actual profiles.
If you go on the group page check on the lefthand side for links to META BUSINESS SUITE or PROFESSIONAL DASHBOARD. You can see your content/posts there and all data related to it.

I haven't checked for a while but I used to see a difference in the group I have if I logged in on my computer rather than phone.
On the phone you could see how many views, on the computer it showed who had viewed it.

Sounds like a WhatsApp group will be better for your communication.

I use a desk top computer, but there is no link for Meta Business Suite or Professional Dashboard on the group page, so I assume it was set up by a different method. I can see a graph of active viewers per day, but again no names. Only half of the Club's members joined the group, and only about 30% of those view the group's posts. I give up!

I only view Facebook through a desktop computer. I am not a fan, and only use Facebook to administer the gardening club group. WhatsApp has been discussed by the club's committee, but rejected because they think members will be reluctant to have their personal details shared with those they don't know. Not that they have asked the membership... Perhaps an agenda item for next month's AGM.

It only shows phone numbers to people who are in the group.
You can have an open group where everyone posts or just updates where only admins can post.

I don't want to litter the site with an extra thread so hope you don't mind me piggy backing onto this one with a question:
How do you wipe a FB page off the face of the earth (It is for a business we no longer run)?

You can send WhatsApp messages out without recipients seeing details of who else receives them (pretty much like bcc for emails) as our local councillor sends out updates and we don’t see who else gets them
Not sure on the setting for it though

You can still click on group members at the top can't you?
Or have they removed that?

No the “Group Info” isn’t there

It looks more like a 1-2-1 message but I’m sure he wouldn’t be sending them out individually (unless I’m the chosen one )

I think the underlying issue is thought to be that people don't want their phone numbers shared with other members of the club. But if you're not happy for that to happen, then you wouldn't join the group and have to accept that you may miss out on information.. I will suggest to the committee that they look more closely at settings for a WhatsApp group, rather than just dismiss the idea. Thankyou for your suggestion!

If you're referring to my question about Facebook, then I can see the names of all the group members as you describe, but what I would like to be able to do is see who is actually looking at the posts, rather than "seen by 5" or just "seen". I have a feeling that it is the same people each time, rather than a different selection from the wider membership.
