Koleosho
Re: Koleosho
An absolute joy to watch but has absolutely no idea how to turn it all into goals and assists.

He’s got a lot of raw talent but he needs to improve a hell of a lot before we start talking about daft figures like that

He does have a lot of talent, but it's not unfair at all to make the observation that his end product isnt quite there yet.
Re: Koleosho
His end product is way off but the amount of ball he has means it’s only a matter of time before he gets it right. Frustrating to watch at times though.

Agree, it's almost irritating how frustrated he looks all the time. might improve if he plays with a smileVegas Claret wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 9:49 pmYou can see how frustrated he gets with himself, needs to relax.

Couldn’t agree more ,put him on the bench and bring him on after an hour and let him do his own thing,he’s creating far too much pressure on himself.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 9:49 pmYou can see how frustrated he gets with himself, needs to relax.

Agree with this. Think he beats himself up a bit too much. If he just cracks on with it a bit more, he’d be much better for it. So much potential.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 9:49 pmYou can see how frustrated he gets with himself, needs to relax.

He’s obviously extremely talented.
That being said, I thought Anthony had a better game than him tonight.

Re: Koleosho
I really like Anthony, looks a very tidy and clever player. His positional play is excellent. Luca is so erratic and wants to do it all by himself, almost the exact opposite of Anthony, who looks a great team/link-up player. It strangely creates a nice combination on opposing flanks.

Re: Koleosho
We would be pretty poor without Koleosho - no one else has the movement or the pace. His final ball isn’t perfect - same for all wingers but he occupies defenders and the opposition sets up to cope with him. When he went off we were continually on the back foot.

Quite right. In the Championship his sheer energy, pace and unpredictability causes headaches and worry in defence. Despite his lack of a final ball, he's a menace at this level and defenders won't have an easy day up against him.LincsWoldsClaret wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 10:49 pmWe would be pretty poor without Koleosho - no one else has the movement or the pace. And that won us the league…

His point is that he’s really good, really pacy and an absolute threat, but his final ball is lacking. If it wasn’t, we’d be getting 3 or 4 against sides like Portsmouth and Plymouth. That’s an absolute fact.
Somebody wants £60m for him…

Re: Koleosho
To be fair, the standard way for wingers to turn possession into goals is to pass it to the men in the box. Koleosho doesn't have the option because most of the time there is nobody in the box.

Re: Koleosho
Koleosho is our biggest threat and the one the opposition fear, bit I wish I had a pound for everytime he overruns the ball. It's also why he keeps blasting efforts over the bar, because he knocks the ball too far infront of himself.
Sarmiento looked in far more control of the ball when he came on.

I like him, however it’s not just the final ball that’s lacking, he runs into trouble a lot and loses possession. However I guess that is one consequence of taking players on.

Luca is by far and away our standout player and biggest threat. Their left back didn't know whether to get an haircut or bake a cake last night after Luca traumatised him.

Re: Koleosho
He ran out of steam last night around the 50 minutes mark and should have been hooked a lot sooner for Sarmiento. He's still learning but needs to pace himself better throughout the match. The problem is he is always available and always wants the ball. His final delivery is no way near the finished article but he's exciting to watch.
Re: Koleosho
I don’t get this exciting to watch thing.
Every time he gets the ball I think he’s probably going to lose it quite soon, either by running into a group of players or with a bad pass/cross/shot.
And that’s usually what happens.
He is very fast. And enthusiastic. But he is raw as hell on the ball. He’s actually a lot better without it when he presses.

As above. His end product is work in progress. My issue is that we rely far too much on him.Socrates wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 7:44 amI don’t get this exciting to watch thing.

A player just turned 20 who played about 10 games in the 4th level in Spain, 5 brief appearances in La Liga and now about 20 games for Burnley isn't the finished article.
Staggering that he is still learning.

Is he fast and does he have all the tools to become a very good footballer? Yes.
But right now he’s constantly running down blind alleys and his passing/crossing is actually quite poor.
All these fans that keep giving it the ‘he’s gonna rip it up at this level’ are watching it very differently to me.
Because of the way he is in possession we don’t look after the ball anywhere near as well as we did when Zaroury played out there, for example.

It's probably the fans that thought Wood was a donkey, Hendrick was crap or that Zaroury didn't play a single decent game after the world cup.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 8:20 amAgree with this.

I agree with all of this and particularly the last line. Right now he's more suited to playing as a winger on the counter-attack, but I do think we could push him further forward and use his pace to stretch defenses more - not being involved in the buildup as much.

Re: Koleosho
Koleosho is probably the quickest player I have ever seen at Burnley and he is intermittently capable of destroying teams, but he is incredibly hit and miss at this stage (a bit Adama Traore-ish). He has literally just turned 20 though and is clearly, for me, one of the best players in this league by a long distance. His potential is outrageous. Needs to try and look up a little more as he very often goes down blind alleys and runs into trouble. His final ball is often poor, but that is what he will get better and better with. Our biggest threat by a long, long distance.

Re: Koleosho
Who's he supposed to be crossing to? Burnley last night played with 10 men trying to create chances and 0 men in the box to finish them off.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 8:20 amAgree with this.

Re: Koleosho
He does run down a few blind alleys, but I think people are missing that he's also creating 1 or 2 big chances every week, we just haven't been capitalising on them.
Against Oxford he could have had two assists if not for poor finishing from others.
An example is last night there was a move where he carried the ball forward, went inside and beyond his man, played a lovely switch out to Anthony who was in a dangerous position (top LH side of the box) but we lost it there. He also fired a few low crosses into the box, I'm not sure we have enough men in the box in those situations.

Re: Koleosho
I should say I think he’ll benefit from Roberts getting back into the team.
Humphreys is fine, but he does look like a defender first and foremost.
Roberts will make overlapping and underlapping runs which should create a bit more space for him. That, plus more bodies in the box, should help.

That’s not true. He had numerous opportunities last night, particularly in the first half, when we had a few in the box and he failed to pick a teammate out.

Re: Koleosho
Do you want someone overlapping a right footed dribbler on the right wing? Surely an overlap will just congest his space.
If anything I think we need more of an underlap to attract players away from him so we can get him 1v1 more often. The Kompany promotion team was brilliant at creating those 1v1s and had the perfect players to exploit those situations

I'm going to ask if anyone else thought that he didn't look at all happy last night in the second half. From where I sit, I didn't see him close up in the first. To me, he looked like he wanted to come off. Maybe he had taken a knock, but he seemed a little bit out of sorts with himself. I noticed this from about 15 minutes before he was subbed.
Maybe just me?!

Can't believe so many responses without anyone pointing out the glaringly obvious for me. That being that he needs to be played on the left. He's capable of being the best player in the league from that position. We need to play our best players in their best positions if at all possible.

Re: Koleosho
I’d be practicing crosses and when to cross for 2 hours every day with him. Leave him to it with a few of the u21’s as targets in the box. He’s got the pace and direction , but his crossing technique is way way off
Re: Koleosho
I’m not too fussed with his crossing technique. Matters less and less in the modern game.
For me it’s about his dribbling - knowing when to give and go, knowing when to pass the ball and knowing when to dribble ….. and when he does dribble, being direct about it rather than running into traffic.
He is rapid with the ball at his feet. If he channels his dribbling in the right areas of the pitch and drives at teams he should win us half a dozen penalties a season.

Like dsr, I thought we were light at times last night in the box. Too cautious and too many hanging back. It really wasn't hard for their centre backs to watch Foster.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 11:10 amThat’s not true.
