Re: Stadium Announcer - Lack of awareness
Whilst some of the points made on this thread, when made in isolation, if offered to the club through the right channels, offer areas for possible improvement, in terms of ‘killing the atmosphere’, I think it’s important to be mindful that from a read of the whole thread, it just looks like a huge pile-on, with regards to a guy who I’ve absolutely no doubt is trying his best (and likely under orders). He’s a real person with real feelings. There’s a way to be constructive and I think a few contributions here perhaps have gone a little too far.

He’s not even that bad, just needs to tone it down a bit and sharpen up the interviews. Doesn’t help that he almost does this as a side thing (isn’t he a full time solicitor during the week?).

Re: Stadium Announcer - Lack of awareness
If he'd just stop the BURNLEEEEE cringe and relentless shouting at half time that would be fine.
To be fair he does seem to be able to restrain himself for 2 periods of 45 minutes.

Re: Stadium Announcer - Lack of awareness
Maybe I missed it, but I think it would have been a good thing to do if tonight the stadium announcer at some point welcomed the 5/600 Plymouth fans who made the 600+ mile round trip to support their team tonight.
Great effort from them and I hope they all have a safe journey home.

He was too busy asking us to “hear it for Burnley” for “big second half”ClaretLoup wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 1:42 amMaybe I missed it, but I think it would have been a good thing to do if tonight the stadium announcer at some point welcomed the 5/600 Plymouth fans who made the 600+ mile round trip to support their team tonight.

He’s that predictable in his content they really could record what he says during one game and just play it out for all the others
Re: Stadium Announcer - Lack of awareness
Agree 100%. We do as a club lack a bit of nous sometimes. Their supporters will only have just arrived home.ClaretLoup wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 1:42 amMaybe I missed it, but I think it would have been a good thing to do if tonight the stadium announcer at some point welcomed the 5/600 Plymouth fans who made the 600+ mile round trip to support their team tonight.

Re: Stadium Announcer - Lack of awareness
If he shut up screaming 'Let's hear it for Burnleeee' and 'Make some noise' he might actually let the fans make some actual bloody noise.
Totally cringe.

The MoM announcements are the most painful for me. Delivered with the same excitement whether we have won 4-0 or lost 4-0.

Re: Stadium Announcer - Lack of awareness
I think the problem is that the Burnley fans are pretty poor in terms of creating an atmosphere at home. Mr Pace is obviously very keen to get the ground rocking (i.e. the drum idea) and so he probably puts a lot of pressure on the announcer to do his part.
I think if the Burnley fans did their bit and actually made some noise the announcer could probably tone it down a bit.

He's been like that way before pace arrived.

He's beyond embarrassing but someone must think that's what we want. He's dreadful.

Spot on - even down to the 'One and only' when he brings out an ex-Claret at half time for a pointless interview. I'm so looking forward to the day it's Steve Davis.

I'd better not post on this thread again. A report has just come in from claptrappers_union accusing me of being a bully.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 10:06 amHe's beyond embarrassing but someone must think that's what we want. He's dreadful.

Re: Stadium Announcer - Lack of awareness
I for one am absolutely fed up with the “let’s hear it…for Burnleeeeey” garbage. It’s contrived. We don’t need it. Announce the lineups, announce the next home fixture. Get off the microphone.

Re: Stadium Announcer - Lack of awareness
We make a conscious decision to drown optimum periods crowd noise out with music so those announcements being made when the crowd starts to make their own noise is just a continuation. Ironic that this happens to coincide with the owners pondering how to improve the atmosphere.
Re: Stadium Announcer - Lack of awareness
I just want to add it peeved me a little that we spent our half time interview last night talking about bloody Wrexham!
Re: Stadium Announcer - Lack of awareness
I could be wrong, but I think that the whisper opposition team name, bellow out Burnley malarkey, has finally ended. The poor pronunciation of players names also seems to have improved of late.
If we can get rid of the poor timing of announcements and screeching of ‘Burnleeeeee’ he’ll be half to being OK. He doesn’t have the dulcet tones of the chap at Anfield, but his voice, when announcing properly, isn’t too bad (I’d sound bloody terrible)!
As an aside and a small moan, the use of the big screen annoys me!
During the game it seems to either be the match playing 10 seconds behind what’s going on, on the pitch (what is the point) or an advert for Samba (whatever the hell that is). Can we not just have the teams displayed?
I’m far more likely to want to check who a player from the opposition is or have a quick reminder of who has received a booking than I am to want to watch a delayed version of the game.

I went to watch Wigan Warriors where he also does the announcements and his approach fits in so much better there. They love the razamtaz at rugby league with flame throwers and the like.
Re: Stadium Announcer - Lack of awareness
He was there for years, wasn't he? Agree with you. Class.4:20 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 9:35 amGeorge Sephton, The Voice of Anfield. He's the only stadium announcer that has stuck with me. I remember his voice from when we played there in the FA Cup replay in the mid 90s. It was calm, dignified and carried a real gravitas as it echoed around Anfield. Added to the experience immensely. I'll never forget it.

Bit odd when he gets to Midfield & shouts 'Josh' though.......ŽižkovClaret wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 2:38 pmWould people prefer a European style announcer where they only say the player's first name and get the crowd to shou=t the surname back at them?
The Turf guy feels almost understated by comparison

Thought it was a bit weird when he asked him if he'd thought about going back to Wales as well. You'd have thought he'd want to celebrate the fact that he wanted to stay in the area.

Re: Stadium Announcer - Lack of awareness
I always feel he’d be more at home at some low division rugby league ground screeching out “ Rochdaleeee horrrnets” then seamlessly announcing “ don’t forget Bab’s pie n peas van outside the bogs” …

I sometimes wonder if he's heard about all the criticism and he's even more determined to shouty shout more than ever.
