Have you put your Heating on.
Have you put your Heating on.
Usual argument in our house first thing in the morning, anyone put theirs on. If it’s not pushing 20 degrees the Mrs isn’t happy. I like it around 18.5 to 19.0. What’s your current temperature settings.
Re: Have you put your Heating on.
Winter duvet went on when we got back from Surrey on Monday ...

Ours is not on the timer yet, but we just knock it on as and when we’ve felt the need. The temp is set at 19. I put on around 7:30 this morning, but knocked it off just now.

Re: Have you put your Heating on.
Had to give it a boost last night after getting in from walking the dog as I couldn’t seem to get warm.
I work from home as well, so it might get boosted few times a day as well

Re: Have you put your Heating on.
Get a few packets of Victory V lozenges and they will see you through without the heating. Everyone in Nelson used to swear by them. Mind you they were made there.

Mine isn't on a timer yet but it's currently on boost for an hour. Was under 13 deg in here when I got up this morning but one morning last week it was below 11.

In downunderland. No such thing as central heating here. Just a gas fan heater in one room. But this as been the first week we’ve not had it on. Spring is on its way.

We’ve been putting it on as our son is currently living with us working from home in the back bedroom and it doesn’t get much sun in there.

You always need a bigger duvet and the heating on after being in Surrey, irrespective of the time of year it's always one sweater warmer darn sarf.

Same all year…16 degrees daytime - 15 degrees at night. Just crept below those temps recently so the heating has kicked in. Good job my solar panel export is paying for it!

Thermostat sat at 18 degrees. Boiler set to hot water only.
Surprisingly, Mrs Inho has switched it on. She’s normally very warm due to … ahem… reasons.

Heating, what’s that? Air con set at 22. Mind you I’m in Stresa on lake Maggorie for a week using it as a base around shopping in Milan & a couple of nights in Switzerland & it was 13 today, nearly passed out.

A balmy 24 degrees here at 6am. Won't be needing heating for a while but have underfloor heating in the dining area which is nice in winter.

You should read this article if like me you are getting on a bit.
https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/wa ... -in-winter
I have heating on a timer, it comes on at 6.30am and goes off at about 10.00pm set at 21degrees. At night it will come on if the temperature in the house drops below 16 degrees. May be Im a southern softie but I like to lounge around in shorts and T shirt in the evening.

Re: Have you put your Heating on.
heating default setting 16 degrees very rarely comes on between April and October set for 18 degrees from last week for 1 hr in the morning set to come on 15 mins before we get up then set for 18 degrees from 5 pm to 9;30 pm comes on and off through out that period possibly on for 1 hr and a half in total after 9:30 only boost if needed have a hive system so can do it from my phone. If we arnt in in the evening just switch off until coming home then boost it.
Re: Have you put your Heating on.
I'm having my usual internal debate. Our house is empty during each working day between 9ish and 5ish. So...
Is it better to have it on a timer, allowing the temperature to drop through the day and through the night, or is it better to have it set to a constant 19.5 degrees (the comfortable temperature in our house)?
With the former, the boiler is only on when we're in and up, but it's on for a while as it gets up to temperature. With the latter, it may be on when we're not there or in bed, but it's only ever on for very short times to 'top up' the temperature.
What do the UTC masses think??

Only use it when you're in.

Re: Have you put your Heating on.
I was advised to use mine when needed and not on a top up. It's been on again this morning for an hour but that's only got it to 14.6 - will probably need an hour this evening too.Fretters wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 11:28 amI'm having my usual internal debate. Well, that's now two people who recommend the 'use it when you're in' approach which is what I already do, but always wondered! I won't bother messing with the systemClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 11:53 amI was advised to use mine when needed and not on a top up. “ According to the experts at the Energy Savings Trust, the idea that you can save money by keeping your central heating permanently on low is a myth. This is mainly because of problems with home insulation.”
CT. Have you got wall cavity insulation, your low temperature concerns me.

Re: Have you put your Heating on.
That’s really cold Tony do look into getting under floor insulation wrapped in the proper membrane and loft insulation as well as your cavity wall filled. If you do all that a little heat should get you up to 20 degrees easily, will be more comfortable for you. It’s definitely worth the effort ripping up the floor as that’s where a lot of ground floor heating is lost. Needs to be done by the right person though.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 9:30 amMine isn't on a timer yet but it's currently on boost for an hour. A lot of the problem in old houses is air bricks letting in cold air under floors. The ventilation needs to be kept but a competent person will know the score.
Re: Have you put your Heating on.
Cavity wall insulation, be very careful.
Re: Have you put your Heating on.
You’re right about that Sozturf7 , I merely wanted to get a conversation going with CT just to see if he’d looked into insulation of some sort be that roof or underfloor as the temperature that he’d mentioned was very low for the weather of late.

Heating not gone on yet. Temperature inside is currently 19.8c
Re: Have you put your Heating on.
That’s really good hoosier. May I ask, is your house a new build with the latest insulation or if not have you carried out your own in house insulation.
Re: Have you put your Heating on.
Had mine on a couple of times just to take the chill off. Only been on for about an hour each time.
