Villa park was weirdly flat for most of that. I was expecting it to be like a Celtic Park/Anfield style atmosphere. Only really got going for a while after the goal.

Just looked at the C League results tonight. Then thought I’d look at the league tables. I was blissfully unaware of the format change (must have been asleep that day). What is the point, apart from (as far as I can see) more games to make more money for the bigger clubs. Who decides who plays who with eight seemingly random games in a ‘league’ of 36. I confess in recent years I have taken very little interest in this inappropriately named competition but it seems that every changed made over the years has been done for money reasons. I’m pretty certain that it will soon be a case of certain games being played in America or the far East or some Middle Eastern country so that the ‘real’ fans can get a close up look at the teams they have adopted.
Honestly I think if it wasn’t for Burnley FC my interest in football would be all but dead. It long since ceased to be a sport (apart from maybe at grass roots level) and is now just a seedy money making concern where the few (clubs and players) make fortunes while rest have to make do. It’s very sad to see the game die this way but the modern fan seems to embrace it with its glitz and marketing. Witness the TV at the start of the season. The Championship and below kick off then a couple of weeks later we get FOOTBALL IS BACK with the start of the ‘best league in the world’ hyperbole.

I don’t know if anyone else feels this way but it really just p!sses me off.

It means that in the group stages the good teams (top seeds) have to play two games against other good teams whereas they previously didn't, so yes, I think that I prefer it.

No it won’t. They beat a poor Watford side by upping their game about 300% from what they have done this season so far. We have proved so far we are solid and difficult to score against. And it’s marginally more entertaining than a lot of the stuff served up under Sean ‘the god’ Dyche. Mr Dyche did a good job for us, some would say great, but it seems that too many on here who didn’t like the signing of Parker are just itching to be proved right. If we don’t get promoted (and I think we will…as champions) you won’t be able to move on here for all the I told you so’s.

I’m a Parker fan and I think it’s pretty clear this league is abysmal.

We are a team of strangers and we are second in the league having only lost one game.

We could get 100 points this season and I think it’s already very clear we will need a massive summer next year to give us even a remote chance.

Nah, people have been saying that long before he turned up. The ones who refer hyperbolically to the championship as ‘poor’, ‘shocking’, ‘abysmal’ etc are good guide to whose opinions you can generally avoid as they know zip about the togger. Just because the premier league is, for the most part, a very high standard, it doesn’t make the championship a low standard.

Factually correct about Sunderland beating us, but it needs context. It was miles off a first XI and some of those who played hardly knew each others names
Arguably it came at the end of the most turbulent week in the club’s recent history.

Not strictly true, the game came at the start of that week. Nobody knee what was going on when that starting line up was announced. The first paragraph still stands though.

I guess that it's down to interpretation. We had less players available for this game than for any other. My recollection is that we started to rebuild the team following the Sunderland game. We lost most of our players in the week leading up to the Sunderland game, or they were rumoured to be leaving so they didn't play.
It was following the Sunderland game that we signed most of our new players. (Hannibal, Sarmiento, Anthony, Flemming, Humphreys). Worrall wasn't available for Sunderland,We were down to the bare bones.
I feel that our situation was much better a week later.

Ticket prices will be a big factor. A lot of tourists and corporate, once a season fans there. The Champions League, certainly in England, isn't really meant for groups of local lads vocally supporting their side after a few beers.

Probably posted further up, but I just realised that 2 of PNEs goals last night came from Osmajic, the player who is awaiting punishment after admitting biting the Rovers player.

Watford fans must be fuming the EFL didn't get his ban sorted in time for the game.

Aye, you’ve got to remember that the Chairman of Preston is on the board of the EFL. There may be a correlation, they’re may not. It could just be a happy coincidence.
I’m sure we will give him/them the appropriate welcome on Saturday.

There's absolutely no way he should have been allowed to play last night. Even though the length of his suspension may not have been confirmed, he should have been banned as soon as he accepted the charge, and any games missed before the suspension is confirmed would simply be deducted from the 10 games or whatever.
tbh, the PFA should intervene in a situation like this. Fellow pros shouldn't be expected to play against someone who bites an opponent until he has served a ban and been on some kind of rehabilitation course.

Odd that some want Leeds to lose than us go top, but there you go.

It’s who is top of the pile at the end of the season that is more important- surely?

Sunderland v Leeds tonight. Is a draw the best result for us? Shame they can’t both lose.
The idea of both losing is a fine idea, would be even better if somehow they could both be deducted points!

On the grounds that Leeds will finish above Sunderland... imo...I'd prefer a mackems win... but a draw is clearly a good result too.

Should be a good game. Leeds have had two big injury blows this week. Both starting midfielders Ampadu and Gruev are out for several months each.

Sunderland win please for two reasons

1. It's Leeds
2. Can't see Sunderland lasting the pace, Leeds however will be up there

Looking forward to this one
