Disabled Parking Near The Ground

Post by Meath_Claret » Thu Oct 03, 2024 4:07 pm

I am planning to attend the QPR game, we are over visiting relatives in Edinburgh so thought I could drive down and get to my first home game in 10 years. My question is , is there anywhere to park near the ground where I can use my blue badge? I find walking very difficult so would appreciate it if I could get as close as possible to Turf Moor

I might be wrong but I'm sure you can park outside the first row of houses on Brunshaw Road although you would need to be there very early.

Might be worth contacting the club. I'd imagine they have some disabled parking though it could already be over-subscribed by our disabled season ticket holders etc

Thanks Tony, Brunshaw road would work well for me, I just need to make sure there are no restrictions that would apply.

Just the normal "3 hours on a double yellow line" rule. They do check that, because I got a warning letter (not a fine) for not putting a clock out when we were in hospitality so wanted more than 3 hours.

Assuming you mean in the ground perimeter behind the JM and Longside stand, that’s fine but if they do you’ll probably have
a long wait after the game before you’re allowed to leave. Might be worth asking them though.

We’ve enquired about parking at the club as my dad now struggles to walk a great distance, without any luck.

As Tony says it’s just the usual restrictions that you have on yellow lines with a blue badge, but you’d have to get earlyish to get space

The alternative is parking at the cricket club, which is £8

If you have a wheelchair and someone strong enough to push it, it's a pretty smooth pavement all the way from Tesco I believe. Good weather would be a bonus, of course!

If you don't have a wheelchair but have someone fit enough to push it (and it takes no great strength on the flat, at least) then I can say that it is a godsend. My mother has had a succession of them over the last 10 years or so, the idea being that she can ride over the boring bits of the journey and then get out of the chair (having saved her energy) to walk around the bits where being on foot is an advantage. Amazon do a good lightweight transport chair that would fit easily into the boot of any car.

My Dad parks either on Brunshaw Rd or the streets behind the Park View area with a blue badge. Just make sure you don't block a dropped kerb or you will get a ticket regardless of the blue badge.

The only problem with that is that your 3 hours are up at 4pm. You need to be careful as they do check.park after 2 though and you can't get all that near the ground. We are always careful with our timings and what sort of lines it is.

Again thank you for all the help and advice, I'm looking forward to getting back on the turf and seeing a clarets win. If you see a black SUV with Irish plates and a boot full of haffners pies you'll know I've made it.

There’s always lots of cars with blue badges in parked on the left hand side of Todmorden Rd, ( ie down from the Wellington, outside the Chinese chippy, outside the church, down towards the Registry Office. Hope this helps, depends which stand you intend to use, and of course, how far you can walk.
