Nil Nil Today

Post by BigAlClaret » Sat Oct 05, 2024 5:46 pm

Forgive me if it's already been mentioned but I'm sure I once read that since 1888 we've only ever had four 0-0 shorelines in the league against PNE.I can't recall any myself(been watching since mid 80s).I guess unfortunately it's 5 now.

Just got back home, that was ferkin awful to watch. We were out muscled, out thought, out run by a team of experienced men against a team of fancy dancing kids. I feel sorry for our very young team but today that was frustating torture to watch. One man up front at home against a poor team we had 5 light weight midfielders who quite honestly weren't up for a fight. Parker needs a complete rethink of his tactics quickly. That simply wasn't good enough.

What would you suggest he should do with the players that he has available?

When was our last 0-0 at home? Feels like a while since we've had one.

Not sure, but with the we're set up there might be a few more to come.

Change it from 1 up front against teams like Plymouth and preston at home, and start thinking about winning games rather than not losing. So boring to watch and can't be enjoyable for the players to play in.

Sunderland I would think towards the end of Kompany’s first season.

He could quite easily have made at least 2 changes at HT. His subs were way too late.
Laurent always looks more positive and powerful in midfield, and Roberts, Sarmiento and Flemming should have been on earlier - assuming they are fit enough.
If Egan isn't fit enough then he shouldn't be on the bench. He is a way better centre back then CJ E-R, and he's good for a goal from set pieces - though not if Brownhill is allowed to take them. [That's one of the first changes I would make. His delivery from set-pieces is not good enough.]

Silly games? Of course I think we should and would love for us to play better but patience is required. We aren't playing as well as we all would like but 2 points per game (especially when we aren't playing well) will get us promotion.

Issues are:
koleosho (body language and positioning/trying to beat 7 players)

Eagan riley (slow, passing and ability to get a attack going)

Hannibal (hanging towards the wing when he should be engaging in the midfield)

Foster (not a hold up player -not his fault and service)

Positives - roberts in for humpheries and Fleming an option for 4-4-2 if we need to change system plus Worral and beyer still to come back, think Sarmiento and tresor could be very good subs though Anthony is very hit or miss ageyi apparently good player?

We will have to play a lot better than this for me to talk about promotion like you. While I'm not saying you are, In my opinion there's been too much comparison with what Kompany did in his Championship season.

For the record I think Parker is a good manager but the football is awful at the moment I'm hopeful it will get better when Fleming comes in for Hannibal and the ball starts to move forward quicker. Koleosho is clearly well rated but recently he has spent games running across the pitch either beating players or running into them. This has to change as has Anthony beating his own shadow all the time. Blackburn showed he is better than that so more encouragement from the management team is needed.
You see I thought of all that myself without even trying

Played Fleming up front at leeds, so he should be up there with foster. No need for 3 holding midfielders, certainly at home to Plymouth and preston.

I don’t think Brownhill or Hannibal are holding midfielders, although the entire front 5 ahead of Cullen have struggled to create for the last 3 games. Very static and rigid.

If they are not holding midfielders then they should be told to get round foster, foster is getting abuse and he's up there on his own, and he's not that type of forward.

Nobody is that type of forward. On the rare occasions the ball comes into the box, Foster is on his own with Preston's three centre halves around him. The first step towards scoring more goals, would be to try and score.

I’ve just been watching the extended Championship highlights on Sky and in most other matches it was 3 at the back and the wide men had acres of space when they received the ball. I feel we’ve been rumbled, they were 5 at the back and all 3 of our wingers were closed down immediately they got the ball. Word will spread so we better get used to it and devise a plan B.

I agree - runners should be going beyond him but Hannibal seems to want it to feet, our wingers stay wide, that leaves Brownhill only. We did it at Luton but Odobert is a far better and cleverer player than Luca.

Foster looks lost, but he’s largely played up front on his own since he signed for us. It’s the system and the long balls up to him against big CBs which isn’t doing him any favours. It needs drilling into his chest or feet, not looping up as a 50/50. Trafford needs to do better with this.

Theres a few clubs in the PL today wishing they could get a 0-0 anytime soon. Wolves, Southampton, Ipswich to mention a few.

Its not ideal but at least our defence seems well organised and resolute, just now need to work at raising our tempo, create more chances, start the hunt for a proper No 9, and getting a few more of the injured fit to be involved in or around the squad.

Who else can you direct that comment at? If Trafford is kicking it then the comment is aimed at him, just like any other comment on any other player in the side.

It has surely not gone unnoticed that the value/stature of the injured/missing players grows significantly each match day that passes and they are not involved. Some even longing for the return of players labelled as little more than a liability whilst the transfer window was still open and wanting them shipped out as soon as any reasonable offer came in.
