Singapore

Post by Clive 1960 » Mon Oct 07, 2024 11:29 am

Has anyone travelled to Singapore as I'm travelling tomorrow from the Philippines for only a night to exit as my tourist visa is nearly up after 3 years and you have to leave and then come back in...

Yes I've visited Singapore a couple of times. You can't go wrong.

Brilliant place. Be sure to check out Clarke Quay and the Gardens by the Bay!

Had 5 days there a few months ago on a stopover from NZ to LHR.
Fantastic place -spotlessly clean, safe and wonderful mix of cuisines.
If you're only there for one night, you won't have time to see much but as mentioned, Clarke quay is always bustling but for eating, we preferred Chinatown.
Behave yourself as eg depositing chewing gum on the pavement will get you collared.
The MRT metro system is brilliant and Changi airport is as good as an airport gets.
You'll want to bo back for longer, I'm sure ........

We went for 5 days last year and have to agree it is a fabulous place to visit

If you are only there for one night I would make the effort and get yourself down to Satay Street for food.

Yes it is is a bit touristy but a great experience!!

My favourite place to visit. If you like shopping you can't go wrong. Don't go without sitting in the Long Bar at Raffles with a Gin Sling :) .

Last time I went, which is a number of years ago, you weren't allowed to take chewing gum into the country. They call Singapore a fine city as they have fines for just about everything.

Go frequently…live in Thailand so it’s only a short flight. Changi airport is amazing…probably one of the best. MRT is great for getting around, it’s now cashless so need to buy a pre paid card or use a credit card to access the trains. Spoilt for choice eating wise, wonderful street food. Marina Bay is a must visit with its famous hotel. Pity you’re only going for a day…you could easily fill a week. Enjoy!

10 years since I was there but probably the cleanest country I've even been. Lovely place!

I went there about 5 years ago with work. Didn't get much time to look around unfortunately.

But one thing to do is go to the Marina Sands hotel (up the lift) to the top floor. There is a rooftop bar where you can see the whole of Singapore

Think it was free entry when I went.

It is the three buildings with with the bar on top that looks like a stranded boat, pretty cool

Don’t know whether it is still there but there was a cable car across the bay with a glass floor. An experience if you like heights. As mentioned above very clean as crime does not pay there. No graffiti etc as there is corporal punishment so people just don’t do it. Very nice place and friendly people.

The best way by far to experience Singapore is on company expenses

Was there in August for 4 days - never experienced heat like it - the swimming pool was lukewarm. Stayed at The Fullerton. Did the Marina Bay hotel viewing platform / Raffles / shopping mall / Ramseys restaurant / Sentosa Island. Amazing place and would love to go back one day.

By far the best airport I've ever been to - makes Dubai and Abu Dhabi look like Leeds / Bradford
