The Wicker Man (1973)
I thought I'd give this the heads-up.
Probably of the best folk horror films ever made is on BBC2 tonight - 11:55pm - 1:25am.

Certainly an unexpected ending.
Edward Woodward is excellent.

Loved this film. One of the scariest endings I've seen.

Re: The Wicker Man (1973)
It's certainly deserving of its cult status. Apparently, The Wicker Man was vastly underrated on its release but gathered cult status when shown as a 'B movie' back in the days when cinema double-bills were still a thing.

They used a body double for Britt Ekland's nude scene.

Re: The Wicker Man (1973)
Brilliant film with great acting. Although it appears to have been made on a shoestring budget, you still get Edward Woodward, Christopher Lee and Britt Ekland for your money. First time you see it you really don't see the ending coming and it leaves a very, very spooky taste. Under no circumstances should you watch the remake set somewhere in the US featuring Nicholas Cage. Utterly appalling!!!

Great film. As is often the case, the remake never came close

Some things are better left well alone, and this classic folk horror tale is one of them.

The locals at Barley have been known to build a wicker man and threaten people who park up there with it

one of my favourites, creepy from start to finish.
There was a film a couple of years back called Midsommer, which was in a similar vein

Re: The Wicker Man (1973)
Its actually called Midsommer Murders and is a TV series rather than a film. Think you can watch it on ITVX if you like it

Re: The Wicker Man (1973)
It has now become a cult film.
Entirely bizarre not a horror film, comedy, drama or musical. A loose plot and some crap acting but it is compelling. The location is stunning and the soundtrack is a bit disturbing.
Britt Ekland had two body doubles for her lower shots and her dialogue was dubbed to remove the foreign accent.

This recalls the old Edward Woodward joke and removing the letter D's.

I never liked it.
Re: The Wicker Man (1973)
Brilliant film, easily one of the best ever made.
More of a thriller than a horror.
Edward Woodwards performance as the determined but hapless Christian walking into a trap is excellent.

Re: The Wicker Man (1973)
Recorded it the other day on recommendation from this board and watched last night
Was surprised by how good it actually was although a complete headf***k of a film
Someone has mentioned to leave the remake well alone but I'm intrigued
Is the remake really that bad?

Re: The Wicker Man (1973)
If you mean the remake starring Nicholas Cage it's honestly indescribably bad. I'm a big fan of the original ....a fantastically weird British film with THAT ending....and was on holiday in the USA when the remake was released. Went to the cinema over there to see it ...I think there were about four people present....and couldn't really believe my eyes and ears.
Re: The Wicker Man (1973)
I'll not waste my time then
Thanks
Christopher Lee was brilliant in the original

A remake that should have never happened. An absolute car crash.Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2024 9:54 pmIf you mean the remake starring Nicholas Cage it's honestly indescribably bad.
