DL v Sheffield United

Post by ecc » Fri Oct 18, 2024 6:40 pm

First of all, this will be a very emotional match for all the Blades' players, staff and fans.

In terms of the result, however much I love seeing DL lose, a draw has to be the best result for us (IMHO).

Yes a draw. These 2 are our main competitors for
promotion imo.

I haven't seen either team play but whilst it's still very early days I get the feeling SU will be a strong contender for automatic.

Doesn't bother me one bit, I'll happily take us going under the radar.

In all honestly, both these teams look a long way in front of us.

Physicality, movement and attacking intent...both teams look right on their game.

If Blades can keep onside with one of these counters, they'll score

It's our slow build up play that causes the problems. Teams can set up against us. If we upped the tempo we might find spaces.

Both a bit like us really, strong defences and midfield, not much up top

That might be the case, but I'm not sure why are so many people on here praising them tonight. Blades without a single shot on target. Leeds slightly better, but nowhere near impressive.

Hopefully we can finish above Sheffield United after them pipping us to the title in October 2022.

It helps when they get a sight of goal they tend to shoot first time…

And you’re right… we did really well to win there - they pasted us.

Getting men behind the ball and hoping to catch a team on the break seems to be the blueprint these days, Sheff U are good enough to have a go at Leeds but instead rely on pragmatism and getting men behind the ball and hoping to catch Leeds on the break.

If we can finish above either of these we’ll be promoted. Both with their attacking intent show up our slow build up play for what it is, ineffective.

Neither of these teams will finish above us. 55 mins in SU haven’t had a shot on target and Leeds have had 2 both very weak.

Lots of aimless crosses into the box though.

What we see in this game is that defences are the difference, Parker is right in that. That’s why the Blades are up there.

Contrast to Wednesday in mid table. Only 1 different in scored, but 12 different in defence.

Tbh could easily be why us and the Blades go up together again. We need to improve a bit of course.

Been a poor game, low on quality. Like many of our games, not a great advert for the EFL.

One thing is for certain, whoever goes up this season is going to be on a hiding to nothing next season.

The same Leeds team that lost to us. They’ve been better than Sheff U tonight undoubtedly but I’m not convinced they will be the league winners.

Leeds looked good - starting to build some momentum
Sheffield United werent at it - but away on a Friday night at a top side isnt going to hinder their chances

Burnley just need to kick on now and start getting a few more goals and tubbings given

Tonight shows to me that the league is there for the taking if we keep consistent

Some of our fans quick to complain about lack of goals recently but Sheff U haven’t lost and didn’t manage a shot in goal tonight

Football is football - it happens

Not one of us has a clue at this stage who could win this league

No one is standing out 9 -10 games in

All leading teams struggling to score.

Two for DL tonight, one lucky one off the shinpads like a bullet and one where the shirt tugging should have been pulled up.

It’ll be a close season I reckon.

Sheffield United doing a carbon copy of us . Absolutely woeful display with no shots. Extremely poor league this season. Probably the weakest the championship has ever been.

Bar 2 years ago. The standard was absolutely woeful when we went up under Kompany
