Not going to express an opinion on whether the farmer was correct in taking the law into his hands, but clearly if it's true that he strapped them to a vehicle and drove them to the police, then he is a man of very limited intelligence, and in my view is asking for it.
It should be pretty clear to anyone that by taking this course of action he is effectively handing himself in to the police for committing an obviously dangerous and reckless act that could potentially lead to jail time.
If, as in Beddie's example, he had taken them for a "joyride" over difficult terrain and then dumped them somewhere in the country side off his land then he would have given them a proportionate punishment and it's highly unlikely that the police would get involved.

There are 4 people who make it very clear they are pleased with the situation, which in my opinion is 4 too many.
Out of interest, have you counted me?

Absolutely this! What was the farmer playing at! Even if he’d restrained them, why transport them himself?

Read the thread, he did ring the police. They couldn’t attend.

Police were attending. The farmer didn't wait.

The more of these scrotes off the e bikes the better. Farmer didn’t want them on his land. Rang police, police didn’t come. Farmer takes them their himself. Farmer gets arrested. Welcome to Great Britain.

What a great story , deadbeat vermin need to know if they’re trespassing , robbing , committing burglary etc they can expect some instant justice . Not advocating seriously hurting anyone , but understanding the results of your actions is a good core life skill .

When he found them on his land, the farmer should have just kicked them both in their knackers, and said “ There you go lads, both have a couple of acres”. :o

Must admit, I didn't believe this when I first read it. Although being in The Sun doesn't necessarily make it true.

The law is extremely unclear and difficult to interpret in situations such as this.

The defence of property or trespass allows reasonable force to be used if the victim has an honest belief that the action used was necessary.

If the action is considered disproportionately overboard then it would be up to the courts to make a ruling, however, there's an inference that benefit of the doubt goes to the property holder.

Then comes the issue of what constitutes reasonable in terms of carrying out a Citizens Arrest.

Sounds like they've been ploughing up one of his fields with their bike. The farmer probably had enough of seeing such antisocial behaviour on his own private property, not to mention the damage.

If he's fined, I bet he won't need to pay a single penny out of his own pocket. People are sick to the back teeth of lawless scroats who think they can do whatever they like because they believe themselves to be untouchable.

Proper gammon reactions on here. People seem to want a vigilante run system where people are able to take the law into their own hands. If this story is true, then the farmer absolutely should have been arrested.

The scrotes are seemingly uninjured,so what's the problem? Why do they always have a gobby mummy sticking up for them.

Policing is a joke.
I've been a victim of fairly minor crime 5 times, the best the police have ever offered is something they called "a reassurance visit"???
Not sure what that means as I've told them not to bother.

That's half the problem. Same when kids get excluded from school for going against clear policies that their parent or guardian signed up to. Out comes the gobby parent banging on about it being so unfair that their little chavster can't go to school in their pajamas.

I think that the main issue here is that the public services are so underfunded and short on resources that people are now having to take the law into their own hands.

As a poster alluded to in an above message it is unlikely that there would be a Police response within a day or two.

The same goes for the NHS. Ambulance staff having to wait outside hospitals because A&E departments cannot cope with the demand. A huge proportion of 999 calls come from people with mental health issues which could be treated by more support on the ground. Again, lack of funding underlines this.

I've a lot of respect for those on the frontline and have to deal with what society throws at them. It was only the other week when I had to get involved in an assault taking place on 2 female PCSO's by a group of youths. Luckily, there were 2 security blokes from the nearby supermarket who also intervened.

Sometimes, you despair.

Apologies, rant over.

These e-bikes, or those that seem to ride them more to the point, are an absolute menace to society.

Well done that farmer for nicking these lads himself if the police couldn’t attend.
Particularly, the ones driven by people with no helmets and no number plates who harass dog walkers or anyone who walks on common ground in urban areas.

Sadly, the farmer will likely get charged and we will have to stump up tax money to compensate those two for their injured feelings. The only thing that might save the Farmer is if Lancashire Police have completely forgotten how to charge people and take them to court.

Correct, policing is a joke. Like much of the public services in this country after 14 years of cut backs.

I’m no longer on a response team, but when I was, we were responsible for policing an area of London with just under 500k people. Quite often I’d be the only car available. Routinely there would be less than 10 of us. It’s ******* madness.

I have great sympathy with the farmer. He’s probably had to deal with toe rags on his land umpteen times and he’s probably snapped. But still, you can’t be taking the law into your own hands. The Police’s hands are tied too. You let the farmer off, and you’re giving the green light to everyone to do the same.

I read recently that’s it’s going to take a generation of sustained funding to get public services back on their feet again.

People like you are the bedrock of society and the silent majority are so grateful for keeping us safe.
IMHO people shouldn't want to commit crime, I was brought up like that, however if wanting to be a decent citizen and neighbour doesn't deter you wanting to be a criminal, being terrified of going to prison should.
Prison should be about severe punishment, just look at the dregs coming out raising a glass to our pathetic politicians, looking fit and well picked up by fellow **** in top of the range cars,no deterrent
They should be crawling out on all fours, emaciated and terrified of going back in and saying so to their crew/mates/gang etc. However it won't change until politicians consistently get robbed and attacked.

I think it’s quite obvious his actions were disproportionate. I believe he will get charged with some offences due to the excessive force he used. The 2 lads then might be able to put a civil claim in against him for any injury and harm that has been caused to them.

True story. About 10 years ago a farmer near me caught two youths messing about, he man handled them both into his cattle trailer - the ones you put sheep in, attached to his Land Rover, he then drove down to where he owns a few fields and drove round those fields at speed over the bumps and divots for good while, stopped and let them out and said “do it again and it’ll be a longer ride next time. Needless to say even though the youths were battered and bruised, puking everywhere they never did it again.
Was this before or after he had watched Yellowstone?

Usually seen ... Scrotes have Scrotes as parents ... Little jimmy Scrote can do no wrong in the eyes of mummy (and daddy assuming there is one) Scrote.
We are roughly at third generation scrotes.

I’d like to think this has been a nice little learning curve for these young gentlemen, but life has taught me there is truth in the old adage “you can’t educate stupid”.

I think it will be a lesson to the lads, although not a new one. Society doesn't care about them and their local community will cheer on illegal violence against them.

This has been picked up by all media outlets now and was even trending on X before . I’d imagine the farmer will have his charges dropped as his “ victims “ and their family have already sold the story to the Sun.

I wonder how many of these people who constantly moan about the state of public services repeatedly voted for the shower that destroyed them.

Good chance that nutjob farmer is one of them.

I see. Assuming this story is true, what would be a proportionate response in your view?

Edit: I am aware I am feeding the troll. I will stop now 😇
No of course not it's hardly an ideal response but some degree of understanding could probably be felt if the feral kids were constantly antagonizing him & he lost all sense of rationale. No troll feeding required that's my honest opinion.

Attempting to steal whether you are successful or not is a criminal offense all 3 aren't as pure as snow. The farmer for responding the way he did & the lads for trying to rob him.

Happen if those in prison were punished a bit more than trying to turn pigs ears into silk purses it might deter a few from going so there would be a bit more room for the more ardent criminals.
