Alan Pace

Post by Goliath » Sat Oct 26, 2024 5:48 pm

These results are on you.

Decimated the squad and left us lacking quality and depth all across the pitch, especially in the attacking positions. I'm not sure Parker did much wrong today bar waiting too long to make changes, we got into great positions again and again and made a mess of them as has been a theme all season.

The Tresor situation needs explaining now, he's the one we really need to see, he cost us a fortune and we are being kept In the dark about what's going on with him. It's not really acceptable.

I understand we were forced to sell for various reasons. But the replacements were done on the cheap and there wasn't enough of them.
There's also an argument that we could and should have played hardball with at least 1 or 2 of them. JBG for example, would he really have kicked up a fuss. He's too professional for that. We dont have a single right winger in the squad which is a complete joke.

There were people claiming that getting £1 million for a previously out of contract Gudmundsson was an amazing piece of business.

I think it's looking like a pretty terrible piece of business with every passing game.

Agreed. I didn't see what the benefit was for Burnley Football Club. Only for JBG himself and probably Pace and the board in getting some money in

Sure, Hey Johan, we've only given you a one year deal but you can go to Saudi and triple your wages at your age - will you stay ?

Keeper and defence are soild but we’re completely devoid of ideas going forward and criminally short up front, as plenty on here predicted we would be at the conclusion of the summer transfer window.

You're aware he was contracted to Burnley FC then. There was absolutely no requirement to accept that bid.

On another day Anthony and roberts score in the first half and the second half is a breeze, it’s fine margins, we are second without playing well or having a full squad

Maybe our board have some decent human beings and were able to have an adult conversation with JBG and listen to what he wanted - he was a great servant for us, maybe respecting his wishes was the decent thing to do. I would have loved him to have stayed along with the majority of the rest as I think we would have won every single game so far but I get why he wanted to leave.

No I'm referring specifically to the lack of goals. O think Parker has done a good job to get us 2nd with a squad that isn't good enough to be there.

I'm puzzled. The club re-signs a player and gives him a one year contract on Championship wages. An offer comes in that, we'd all guess, is financially attractive to the player. Perhaps the agreement was always "if an offer comes in that betters what we can offer, and with thanks for all your years of great service to the club, we will agree your transfer with our best wishes."

Why would that be the deal and why would we agree to that. Doesn't make any sense at all. Whatever outlandish theory you come up with, selling him for a million has damaged our chances of finishing top 2. At least JBG got a nice pay day for it though, that makes it worthwhile.

Maybe the reporters have been informed about his condition maybe it's mental health and have been asked not to ask those questions as to not put Parker and the club in a rubbish position

Why would that be the deal? Only my speculation, of course. Why did JBG re-sign after he'd left? He presumably knew that he had possibility of other offer(s), even if nothing firm at the time he re-signed. Maybe Alan Pace thought it worth making him the offer, while knowing that if JBG got a better one he would accept it. Club had nothing to lose by signing on that basis. Would you prefer no offer was made by BFC and JBG wasn't in the squad for a couple of games?

That's only opened the door to JBG returning, it doesn't make it that JBG is keen to accept Championship wages when there might be better on offer by going elsewhere. Plus a longer contract which will always count for a lot once player is over 30.

Apart from the Tresor "greatest mystery" what on earth was the thinking of letting Amdouini go on loan when our strikers are Jay, Hountondji, and Foster (when he feels like it). I am convinced that with Amdouini we would be closer or even above Sunderland. I can understand him being sold but on loan-please explain

Don't sign for us then. I'm fairly sure he didn't sign with the idea of moving on after 2 games

We also need to bear in mind our other attacking options

Tresor
Ramsey
Redmond
Sarmiento
Benson
Foster

Are all unavailable.. a lot of clubs would struggle with 6 forward thinking players out injured

10 players injured in total who would be near the first team when fit

I'm unconvinced that will be our finishing place. The shambles of a transfer window is on him though. The bench this early in a season looking pretty bereft of quality is on him.

Right. I was talking about the lack of goals specifically. Thought that was quite obvious.

If we finish a few points out of the top 2 at the end of the season then we will look back at these results and realise we chucked it away

Tresor, no one knows the truth but there appears to be longstanding issues here. Foster unfortunately has proven unreliable. Redmond was long term. Ramsey was long term. These four attacking options not being available is entirely foreseeable. Selling every player you get a bid on in the circumstances and not replacing with quality looks pretty stupid. Looking at the striker position, a moneyball signing in Hountondji when there's no depth looks thick. Pace is at fault for our limitations attack wise.

I don't like the finger being pointed at Parker. Depth and quality is an issue. This is on Pace. The transfer window was a mess. This was caused by Vinny's EPL transfer window which was a mess. This is on Pace.

Well I haven't. We've factually lost a good number of points already purely through a lack of depth (and quality). The problem now is Parkernis taking the brunt of it so I just thought I'd add some balance to that. I don't think it's on Parker at all really.
This squad isn't top 2 material at present.

Aside from a few teams in the division the rest don't look to have too much about them. We might not be pleasing on the eye, but we are accumulating points on a regular basis without too much trouble (we should have beaten Hull at the end, despite being awful for much of the game) so I think we'll be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.

Agree with the general point, but i think the 9+ players out injured (most in the league I think) is the main issue. You could argue the fact we are second with that many out is a sign of good squad depth. A bench with Ramsey, Tresor, Sarmiento, Benson and Foster would win that game comfortably… would you agree?

The division is up for grabs which should not be the case with parachute money. A less fancied team should be eyeing up promotion this season because it will just need a couple of good signings to tip the favour in their balance. Given what we've seen from Pace's decision making I don't comfortable at all because I think business needs to be done in January to give Parker a chance.

I can't say I've been too impressed with Sarmiento. He is who I was referring to when I mentioned cheap replacements.
Ramsey is out for the year which we knew, Tresor looks unlikely to play for us which again we knew.

So that leaves Benson and Foster. Benson I think was probably one we expected to leave, but maybe didn't get any decent offers for, so I very much doubt there was a plan for him to be in the squad.

Foster has been dreadful this season but yes he possibly could have had an impact. I really think you're over playing our depth tbh..some of those won't play for us again and we knew some wouldn't be contributing for the first half of the season at least.

The one you missed is Redmond. I think he'd be a big asset for us at this level.

Let’s move on to the last game of the season and we get promoted .What the hell is Pace going to do ? We’ve an average keeper a good centre half and an Anglo Italian winger who we could perceive as having potential but the rest are decidedly average.

We..we’re second in the league.
Look at the Table
We have played only 3 teams in the present top 12
Sunderland Leeds and Rovers 4 points
The other 9 7 are in the present last 9
5 wins 4 draws
We are not anywhere near promotion candidates
We can’t score goals and you need to to get out of this league
If we can’t beat teams at home who park the bus then we will not get promoted

Aside from the ones you mentioned are those other teams in the top 12 much better than those in the bottom half?

Apart from the Tresor "greatest mystery" what on earth was the thinking of letting Amdouini go on loan when our strikers are Jay, Hountondji, and Foster (when he feels like it). I am convinced that with Amdouini we would be closer or even above Sunderland. I can understand him being sold but on loan-please explain
Him and his agent made it clear that he didn't want to play for Burnley in the championship before the season even started.

But he did play, and scored a worldie.

Sometimes we need to play hardball with these characters.

Everyone could see from his short cameo against Cardiff that he would tear up the championship.
