I was stuck in this yesterday. They’re there until early November I believe. It’s bad up that road at the best of times when the normal lights are on, now there’s temp lights it’s a nightmare

Thanks for that gandhisflipflop, Ive been trying to find out about this but to no avail until you posted.
I shall find alternate routes for the next few weeks, much appreciated.

Good question Goliath. Lots of work will be going on around every approach to the town centre to help with the flow of traffic to the roundabout I believe.
The thing is, when they arnt digging the roads up the flow isn't too bad. Just been on Burnley Rd, Rawtenstall, traffic lights near Spar, no work going on with the traffic management guy sat in his van, playing on his phone.

To get through Rawtenstall there aren't many alternatives, if the Council keep on giving permission for these massive housing estates to be built on the hillsides off Burnley Rd, where every house has 2 or 3 cars the problem will just get worse. I don't think they realise that the roads in Rawtenstall just can't take all this amount of extra traffic.
The amount of times that bit of road outside Spar has been dug up is amazing. As usual zero planning from LCC or the contractors I mean who would have thought two sets of temporary traffic lights within less than a mile would cause total gridlock. And that’s before the ‘major work’ starts for the next 9 months!

for anyone travelling through Rawtenstall - they have just started junction improvements from the junction where the market is until the roundabout at the fire station they are scheduled to last until May next year so expect long queues at peak times.

also about 1/2 to 2/4 mile up towards Crawshaw booth from Rawtenstall are a set of temporary light which are adding to the problem they will also be there for sometime as they are rebuilding the river wall that has collapsed, might be one for people to note when travelling to and from away games if you drop down into Burnley on Manchester road

A56 Accrington bypass currently closed in both directions so traffic in the surrounding area is as you would imagine.

Tonight was another shitshow. To add to the gasworks that are still ongoing at the princess way roundabout, somebody thought it’d be a great idea to cone off the outside lane at the traffic lights on the way out of Burnley just after the Nissan garage, causing huge delays and bottle necks.

It’s disgraceful

Road closed tonight on Rosegrove Lane at the junction with Liverpool Road.

I don't know how far it extends down the Lane, but just a warning that something's afoot.

Who'd have thought that congestion at new traffic light system on Centenary Way was far worse than when we had perfectly functional roundabout? Well, not those at LCC.

Also, who would have thought that the whole area is now a dangerous free for all with pedestrians and electric scooter riders etc crossing all over the place into oncoming traffic and not using the pedestrian crossings now that the metal guardrail system is no longer there.

Can't say I've noticed a dangerous free for all with pedestrians crossing all over the place at the junction itself. On Yorkshire Street itself next to the pubs on a Friday or Saturday night however is another thing entirely.

Like you thought anecdotally I'm not convinced the junction has eased congestion. In the morning I enter the junction from Yorkshire Street (having come past the Turf on Brunshaw Road) to turn right onto Church Street. The traffic can be backed all the way back to (and blocking) the junction with Todmorden/Belvedere Road at 8.30ish.

The three lane road coming from St Peter's towards the removed roundabout is too narrow for three lanes, partly because they aren't straight line. If (like this morning) there is a Chelsea tractor making its wide circle to turn left while another car is coming up to turn right, it's a bit hairy trying to keep going forward.

Though funnily enough, getting to work from Colne to Burnley is quicker now that the Princess Way roundabout is closed, because the bottleneck on the road approaching the roundabout has vanished.

i've noticed the buses in the right hand lane as well have to take a wide turn to get right, can be tight coming down the middle lane

i've not noticed the traffic being any worse however, its quicker through there if anything. i go through there on my way and way home from work

Putting traffic lights in wasn't to ease congestion, it was to make it more "pedestrian friendly"

Totally agree with this. If you are in the middle lane and a vehicle is turning right and cars are in the left hand lane which they usually are then just trying to go straight ahead is pretty scary as the road becomes very narrow. They have not thought about it properly. It’s dangerous.

It would help if people turning right didn't swing out into the lane next to them despite driving a perfectly normal car. You don't have the turning circle of a bus and it's quite a wide turn.

Some plonker has hit the traffic lights at the bottom of Westway & they're hanging out towards the outside lane as you come uphill. Assume that's why it's coned off.

That river wall works has been on & off for 3 years now, a mate who lives nearby said it'd collapsed back into the river twice :o

The idea behind the replacement of the roundabout with traffic lights had nothing to do with improving traffic congestion,in a way its purpose was to make it worse. The whole idea of town to turf was to improve pedestrian access from the town centre to the ground ,bearing in mind the roundabout had no pedestrian priority crossings on any of its roads and now all 4 have it this was always going to severely impact traffic. I think congestion over the last 2 weeks has been made worse by the active way closure but even without that the junction is never going to work very well , it definitely could be better managed and more reactive to changing traffic through the day. I asked LCC during the consultation over it if they carried out a traffic impact assessment on it’s potential effect but they just replied it’s only highway works in existing highway boundary so we didn’t need to and haven’t . Of course all this static traffic in the town centre will make the air quality for pedestrians much worse but LCC also said they hadn’t bothered to do an environmental impact assessment either!

Are the cones still there? Was there last Sunday and still there Tuesday night. You’d assume they’d could have sorted it not just come it off and leave it.

yeah its different bits that keep collapsing , this one looks a lot worse than the others they probably need to repair the full length but that would take for ever and cost a fortune

The Great Wall of Rawtenstall see how many more months they can drag out repairing a few hundred yards of collapsed wall.

They had a massive drill there a few weeks ago, like they were drilling for oil.

It’s incredible how long it’s taken them to repair that wall.

Few hundred yards is stretching it a bit! It's about 30 yards worth and given the amount of machinery there when they first started, I though that it was progressing well.
However, I saw a post on FB last week of a photo from the opposite bank and I fear it could drag well into next year, no where near finished

Starts 9th through to 18th, play Derby on 10th so allow extra time it will be chaos.
Couple of places on Brunshaw Road about half way up hill look damaged by last weeks rain, wouldn't suprise me if work was needed on there very soon

There's signs all the way down by the fire station and up by the hospital, so it's going to be disruptive. Feels like they did it last year as well

More excellent planning by the council. The road was closed this morning at the traffic lights where nissan garage is causing major tailbacks in all directions. If it is still there tonight it will cause chaos. My advice if travelling eastbound is to avoid junction 10 altogether and depending on the traffic, junction 9 too. This morning I bypassed both of those junctions and went straight to j12 at brierfield and came back on the westbound side of the m65 to come off at j11 Asda junction.

For anybody trying the main roads from Colne/Nelson, there are roadworks in Brierfield by Connellys which are causing rush hour tailbacks to the roundabout by B&Q

Friday 1240
Still backed up from Nissan garage on Westgate all the way to the motorway bridge at Gannow top.
Roadworks on both sides of the road one going into town at the traffic lights down to one lane and another going up Westgate opposite the NissannGarage.
Nobody working there just coned off.Another LCC Master stroke of traffic planning.
Will be chaos here tonight from 6:30 if they are still there.

Westgate roadworks are due to end on 12th December.

So Westgate and Eastern Avenue both closed at the same time, for Derby? What fun.

Does anyone know why they have chosen to shut westgate on a Friday in the run up to Christmas that is also a matchday?
Could it not have waited until the weekend or be done overnight? Seems like they have done it on purpose to cause chaos!

This is exactly the frustration here. The weather won’t help either

Suspect closing it today means the people working on it can claim double time over the weekend for sitting in the van.
