The swimmer, with Bert Lancaster. Swimming
home through every neighbours pools. One
that was empty, so walked through it using
just his arms to go through the motions.

Agree with Armchairdetective "The Warriors" is definitely a cult film
I think The Blues Brothers needs adding to it.

Croupier was the first that sprang to mind. Great bit of film noir with Clive Owen.

As for a cult movie, I can’t think past Divorcing Jack, which was huge in Northern Ireland, but relatively unknown over here or The Guard, which is the same in the south.

Watership Down (1978)

Certainly weird for an animated film and discussion continues as to whether it is suitable for children.

On the 40th Anniversary, Ed Power from The Independent newspaper described the film as a 'classic' but that it 'arguably traumatised an entire generation'.

All Tarantino movies. Possibly not cult but certainly in 'Marmite' territory due to some outrageous violence. Personally I love all Tarantino flicks.

On a lighter note:
Airplane, Airplane 2: The Sequel.
The Naked Gun. The Naked Gun 2 1/2. Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult.
Leslie Nielson was hilarious. :D

Trainspotting worth a mention.

A relatively lesser known movie thats an easy going action/crime flick is lucky number slevin.
Good cast and a decent plot with a good few twists.

Kes (1969)

Gritty drama set in a deprived Northern town/city. The collapse of the coal mining industry has led to widespread redundancies and people are living on the breadline. Low level crime is on the increase.

The Education system is also under scrutiny at the time.

Sounds familiar ?

Just watched The Substance. What a good film that was. And fits this thread perfectly
Watched it tonight.

It's all about opinions but personally thought it was a good film with an interesting concept for the first 2 thirds but then descended into non- sensical, gory chaos for the last third which completely ruined it.

Certainly fits the description of 'strange film' though

Not seen that but the mention reminds me of a Hungarian film I really liked which is a bit cult/ weird- "On Body and Soul"
About 2 slaughterhouse workers who share the same dream (about being deer), film also has the L Marling track (as does a Peaky Blinders episode) "What he wrote".

Perfect Days is on Prime at the moment (free trial on MUBI).

It doesn’t really fit the cult/strange tag but is probably one that goes under the radar. 2 hours of a man cleaning public toilets in Tokyo and not speaking much. It’s very good.

Four Rooms (1995)

Co-written and Directed by Quentin Tarantino.

Tim Roth stars as a 'Bellhop' on his first night of employment at a Hollywood Hotel on New Year's Eve.

The film consists of 4 separate individual films in each of the rooms that the Bellhop has to visit on his shift. (the hotel is completely understaffed).

1st: Roth encounters a Witches Coven (Madonna is one of the cast).

2nd: He enters the room and finds himself in a hostage situation.

3rd: Asked by a rich guest (Antonio Banderas) to look after his young kids for the evening whilst pocketing a good tip for his trouble.

4th: In the Penthouse. as a bet has high stakes (including Quentin Tarantino).

This film has to be included in the 'strange' category. Parts one, two and four are are just plain weird with little substance.

However, the third section which was entitled 'The Misbehavers' is a triumph. One of the funniest scenes ever. The way the situation goes 'pear shaped' is inevitable but not quite as you might expect.
