Vitinho top of the league.
Vitinho top of the league.
I have a Brazilian barber. He said Vitinho is being rumoured for a national call up and his team is top of the league. I’ve no idea about the first part but I checked and he was right about the second part.
Re: Vitinho top of the league.
Vitinho was a lot better footballer than some on here gave him credit for. Out of all the players we sold in the summer he’s possibly the one that this team is missing the most.

Have we got a list of players that came and went under VK’s tenure. Just out of numerical interest really, nothing else.

The only one of our ex-Vincent Kompany signings that I still follow on social media.
Wish him nothing but the best.

I’d go JBG myself, but Vitinho a very close second.
I imagine he wanted to leave but also seemed the type of character that would stay and crack on if not (mind you, I’d have said the same about O’Shea).
Get that we had to sell some but Vitinho is where we cut too deep in my view.

Yep totally agree. Losing JBG & Vitinho significantly reduced the quality of the squad. Two very good, versatile, intelligent footballers.NewClaret wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 9:12 amI’d go JBG myself, but Vitinho a very close second.

Did he leave on a loan with an obligation to buy? Struggling to remember the reported details of the deal.

keeping him is all a pointless discussion if he wanted to leave though, but I agree with what other said above he was vastly underrated player for us and always played with a smile too and I wish him all the best

Berge and Vitinho are big misses. What happened to Odobert at Spurs ? Injured or not good enough ?

Re: Vitinho top of the league.
His progression over the two years we had him was huge and he looked like our stand out player in the first couple of games for me... which is saying something! His workrate, pace, and end product made him the perfect player for the right wing in SP's system. He would have ripped this league up had he stayed. It would be quite the story if he got a call up to the Brazil squad!

He wasn't a great full back, but he was very good in the wide right midfield position. Can you imagine where we would be if we had kept him, Berge and Odobert and possibly O'Shea this season.

Always gave 100% and never stopped trying . It wasn't his fault that somebody kept trying to play him at left back !!

Best position I saw him in was right wing. But I don't think he'd be any better than what we have now. He'd have 4 men on him when he got the ball and would have to pass it back.expoultryboy wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 5:36 pmAlways gave 100% and never stopped trying . Bang average, if he is anywhere near the Brazil team at the next World Cup then that's one less team that Tuchel needs to worry about.

Re: Vitinho top of the league.
I found it strange that he left English and European footy behind, could anyone comment on the reason? Was he homesick? His command of the English language was apparently pretty good. I don't follow Brazilian football but considering most of the top players ply their trade in Europe I can't see the standard being at PL or even top Championship level. Surely the salary Brazilian clubs pay can't be anywhere near what he could command in England or a top level Dutch/Belgian/French club.
Re: Vitinho top of the league.
Would have been a stand out performer for us this season at either right back or right midfield. As he showed in the first few games. Could comfortably carry the ball better than most of our current players and thats something that's been severely lacking in the team so far.

My favourite player in the VK team.
Not the best, but the best don't always try.

He certainly had his shortcomings, but as you allude to, his work rate was top notch. He really seemed to get being a Burnley player.dougcollins wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 7:25 pmMy favourite player in the VK team.

If he could just sort out his final pass and occasionally his decision making.
I could forgive the frustrating elements of his game because of his work rate and as others have said, despite not being the best of the departing players, he was the one I was most disappointed to see leaving.
His versatility was a real bonus too.

Re: Vitinho top of the league.
I think the departures in the final days of the window of him and Gudmundsson weakened the team enormously, and is a significant factor in our attacking structures. I think both would have been first choice this season - either at right back or right midfield in Vitinho's case, and in central midfield or wide right in JBG's case.
Personally, I think Vitinho was always underrated by Burnley fans and I think he was better defensively than he was given credit for (he improved a hell of a lot from his first couple of month once he adapted to English football), and his ability to carry the ball and add pace and movement to an attack would have been a point of difference in many of the games we've dropped points in recently.

He didn’t give 100% at Sunderland away this season…..
An extremely average and limited footballer. As mentioned already on this thread, if he’s anywhere near Brazil’s team then they must be really stretched.

Every title winning team needs a Vitinho in it. Yes he was limited, but he could fill a number of positions and do a job and always gave his all. Do I think he’s good enough for Brazil? Not a chance but good luck to him.

He was an average player who could play a number of positions. But he wouldn't be any better on the wing than what we currently have.
Re: Vitinho top of the league.
Fair play to him but although I've never gone in for the whole Copacabana thing the media wheels out every four years, the idea of him playing for Brazil is somewhat surreal.

Vitinho definitely wasn't good enough as a full back, he was always diving in and on his backside.
As a midfielder he'd a good engine, but he was very poor at crossing the ball.

Re: Vitinho top of the league.
The Brazilian League has come a long way in the last few years. There is loads of money in Brazilian football at the moment. Vitinho's club Botofogo are owned by John Textor and have been spending big, over 50 million recently. Luiz Henrique and Thiago Almada both arrived for big money. Textor has loaded them with massive debt in true American style.exilecanada wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 5:57 pmI found it strange that he left English and European footy behind, could anyone comment on the reason? The big Brazilian clubs have been taking most of the best players from the rest of South America. One result of this is the last 5 Copa Libertadores winners have been Brazilian and 4 of the last 5 finals have been all Brazilian affairs. Including this years final on Nov 30th featuring Vitinho, Botofogo vs Atletico Mineiro.
Even the big Argentine clubs are struggling to compete. Atletico Mineiro saw off River Plate easily in the semi final and they are 10th in the Brasiliero.
I've been watching a few Flamengo (4th in the league) games this season as my wife supports them. They are miles better than anything in the Chmpionship.

Absolutely mental stuff that - Not even two years in the job as well.
Re: Vitinho top of the league.
It's a preposterous list. The scary thing is how many are no longer with us, either permanently or on loan. There's no doubting we made some very good signings under VK, but it certainly wasn't hit after hit was it!

If we remove players that are still with us or were on loan then outgoing transfers were as above - 51m profit broadly on the players we've bought and then sold in the last two windows, not overall.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 8:17 pm
Scott Twine broke even
Luke McNally nominal loss
Samuel Bastien 550k loss
Arijanet Muric 6-11m profit
Vitinho 7m profit
Denis Franchi nominal loss
Darko Churlinov loss of around 3m
Anass Zaroury 1m profit
Ameen Al-Dakhil 4m profit
Dara O’Shea 6m profit
Lawrence Vigouroux 400k profit
Michael Obafemi would imagine a 3m loss
Zeki Amdouni 4m profit
Sander Berge 10m profit
Wilson Odobert 17m profit
Caveats
- it's from transfermarkt and we're taking with a pinch of salt.
- I couldn't be arsed diving into too much depth so any transfers with a poxy 50k or whatever on the end of the fee has been disregarded
- it's in Euros
- there's obviously one or two in there where we are making assumptions.i have apportioned Churlinov and Obafemi as a total loss and assumed Benfica will take up their option on Amdouni.
- I have also left out performance related add ons.
We have done some good trading overall, albeit too much, and there is a lot of value locked up in the squad that remains, although you have to concede we will likely realise some losses when we move those on. One or two in particular stick out. You would imagine the value of fees for players like Kole, Foster, CJ, Trafford and Esteve will see us comfortably 'up' still mind, between them they'll probably clear 100m.
