Big Dave - sad news
I'm sorry to have to post this morning the sad news that Dave Wynne, who used to post on the board as BigDave48, has sadly passed away. I've just spoken to his youngest son James who told me he hadn't been well for a while. He was 76 and had suddenly deteriorated.
Dave was a very good friend of mine for a number of years and I am truly saddened at this news. My thoughts are with his sons Steven and James and their families at this time.
RIP Dave.

His Sunday morning paper reviews were a great feature for the board at the time.
Way ahead of what the BBC do now.

Re: Big Dave - sad news
Terribly sad news about a really great guy. We’ve missed him and his humour on here in recent years.
He would have done anything for anyone: in one of our golf days at Rishton, I locked my car keys on the car. Dave immediately asked if I had a spare at home and on saying that I did, give me a one hour round trip lift just to enable me to play in the golf day.
Many will remember him for his paper reviews.
RIP Dave
My thoughts are with James, Ste and family x

Re: Big Dave - sad news
Very sorry to read this.
I met Dave at the first Clarets Mad dinner, and then at all the subsequent ones. I also met his two lads (at least one of whom still posts on here ), and we always had a good chat at the dinners, the Race Night, and the golf events at Rishton.
Our older posters will remember fondly Dave's weekly review of the Sunday papers.
Sincere condolences to Steven and James and their families.
R.I.P Dave

This is sad news indeed, I first met Dave on an away trip many years ago, flying with the team down to Plymouth, it was there that he was singing the praises of Clarets Mad and encouraged me to sign up, which I did. Miss his papers review. RIP Big Dave, condolences to his family.

Re: Big Dave - sad news
jdrobbo mentions him doing anything for anyone.
One day years ago I bumped into him at the supermarket and knowing I don’t drive he offered me a lift home. From that day on he would come and collect me every week and take me. The bottle of Baileys I bought him each Christmas was nothing to what I got from him with those lifts. They only stopped with the pandemic.
I spoke to him last just a few weeks ago when he said he was struggling walking very far. Never did I think it would be the last time I’d speak to him and this morning’s news has come as a big shock.
A real family man who loved being a granddad.
All I can say now is thanks Dave for being such a good friend.

Big Dave,
Rest in Peace Dave Wynne
You were a much loved and much missed poster here. The fact that people still yearn for your Paper Review says it all about one of this and the previous messageboards most popular contributors.
I am so sorry Claret Tony, you have lost such a good friend, why must all good things come to an end.
Dave Wynne, aka Big Dave. We will salute and remember you fondly.

Re: Big Dave - sad news
Thanks for all the kind words.
My dad was one of a kind and will be sadly missed.
He was a very selfless, generous man. My mum walked out when I was 11 month old and my brother was 2. My dad brought us up on his own, which is obviously not common, particularly in the 80s and 90s. He gave us the best possible childhood and did everything for us, from running our football and cricket team, to dragging us out of school early on a Tuesday for a ‘dentist appointment’ which would turn out to be an away trip to Southend.
He took us all over the country watching Burnley, and loved the clarets.
In recent years his health as failing so he stopped going on the turf but he still watched the games when on tele.
He really enjoyed this and the previous messageboard and made some great friends. He loved a bucket and a pink stetson.
Like my brother has said he thought a lot of Tony and they were good friends for many years.
I will post funeral details when I know for those that would like to attend

Re: Big Dave - sad news
That really is upsetting news. Dave was a class act and I always enjoyed chatting to him (and his humour) when he was chair of the Burnley fans team and then in later years when I saw him out and about at St Peter’s.
Not seen him for a while but used to enjoy his daily Facebook updates (and his gentle banter with James and Ste!).
Thoughts with James, Steven and his friends and family.

As with a lot of other posters, I recall Big Dave’s Sunday paper reviews with great fondness along with his general posting in the days back on ClaretsMad in particular. I met Dave in person at the some of the ClaretsMad events and he was a top bloke (pink Stetson and all). Sincere condolences to Bobbydazzler and Inchy and the rest of his family. I will see if I can find the old ClaretsMAD Dinner poster/montage which he featured on with said Stetson (thankfully Dave didn’t seem to mind his inclusion at the time with him being one of ClaretsMAD top celebs)! RIP.

Re: Big Dave - sad news
So very sad to wake up this morning to read of the passing of BigDave.
My son Tom and myself first met up with Dave and his sons Stephen and James many years ago at an away game at Bristol city. And we would quite often meet up at other Burnley games.
I think the last time I saw Dave and his sons was at the Play offs final at Wembley.
Rest in peace Dave! It was a pleasure to have known you!

Very sad news. His absence from the board often made me wonder about his health. I never met Big Dave but he came across as a good man.
Thoughts with his two lads. Bringing two children up alone must be a huge challenge because it's very hard when there are two of you.
I recall his bucket for fundraising.
A stalwart of CM in particular.
