Re: Chris Wood
Shaping up to be one of his best seasons in his career. Considering his age, and the fact the PL is a much stronger league than 6 or 7 years ago, thats some achievement. Saw him at Leicester a few weeks ago and he looked in great shape

Re: Chris Wood
But warks references 6 or 7 years ago. I don't believe the EPL is getting ever stronger.

Re: Chris Wood
And today we have the likes of Harland, Salah, De Bruyne, Van Dyke, Rodri, Martinez, Saka-I could go on playing in the EPL. Some of the world's best players (winners of the World Cup, and the Euros), play in the EFL

Haaland aside and maybe Rodri and KDB, the rest aren’t better than was was around 15 years ago.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 9:23 amAnd today we have the likes of Harland, Salah, De Bruyne, Van Dyke, Rodri, Martinez, Saka-I could go on playing in the EPL. Re: Chris Wood
On twitter yesterday there was a post mocking Ade Akinbiye when he was the laughing stock of the Premier league at Leicester.
Plenty piled on in the replies but someone said he scored 9 goals in 37 apps for them.
Similar numbers to Wood for us.

Re: Chris Wood
Not sure we can make comparisons about the EPL being weaker or stronger than it has been in previous years by bringing up isolated names of players that admittedly were fantastic footballers in their time. You only need to look at the current 20 coaches managing in the EPL today and compare them to those managers in the era of Vidic, Rooney and Berbatov which have all been singled out (did they not all play for the same manager in any case). Then look at the quality of the England team, which other than Bellingham currently, is a product of the EPL, and in my opinion had we had a better coach/tactician than Southgate could well have won a trophy in the last 4-6 years -the first time 58 years. Then look at the trend for promoted Championship clubs coming straight back down. It happened last season and could easily happen this season with at least two of the clubs. Just my opinion and no one will convince me otherwise that the EPL is an ever improving model

Yet again another thing that should haunt the common wise expertise opinion that's frequently proffered on here, it's some decline since newcastle & a acute reminder when waxing lyrical about the better replacement.

Re: Chris Wood
Maybe- but he didn't try so hard in his last season with us.
That kind of tempers my judgement.

He was crap in his last season here. The criticism was fair.

Re: Chris Wood
The service he gets is commensurate with his goals tally.Forest know how to get the best from him.Eddie also knew signing him would significantly reduce our chances of staying up.Especially signing that useless lump Wout as an alternative.
I really rate
Chris and never understood the dogs abuse he got .

Surely you understand the way it works on here by now: Once Jeff Hendrick had left there needed to be someone appointed as our Official Scapegoat.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 12:14 pm... I really rate Chris and never understood the dogs abuse he got.

Isn't that what a scapegoat is?
Some just said he was a bit crap/lazy in our last season, which I would suggest is fair comment.

Re: Chris Wood
Very effective when teams set up to exploit his strengths.
Very effective when he can be arsed.
I’ll forgive most things. Poor form, poor finishing, lack of talent etc. what I won’t forgive is a “can't be arsed” attitude when wearing our shirt and being paid ridiculous sums of money to bust a gut trying.
For all the good he did, for all the great goals he scored, for all the important goals he scored, I thank him, but the last period is fresh in my mind I’m afraid. He was so unprofessional it was embarrassing to watch.

Re: Chris Wood
It's widely acknowledged in some quarters that the laziness/crap is merely a figment of some peoples imagination & can easily be explained by being bereft of service & feeding of scraps.dougcollins wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 1:36 pmCany recall anyone blaming him for us going down.

Re: Chris Wood
If it’s a figment of the imagination, which suggests it never existed, why would it need to be easily explained?
It happened. It was real. I watched it.
We don’t see Flemming (bereft of service and feeding off scraps) sulking into oblivion and not trying do we?

Re: Chris Wood
I'll happily admit in his defence that he wasn't the only one who was poor, but he was contributing next to nothing at the end for us, even he alluded to it tailing off at the end:
"I'd been at Burnley for four years, it got to a point where I was in my comfort zone and you never doing anything great when you're in your comfort zone."
Glad it is working out for him though, prior to that last season he was brilliant for us and definitely underappreciated.

Re: Chris Wood
Last of a dying breed. Those that liked him probably valued the old school methodology of having a striker, a purebred of the poacher fold.
His all round game on the ball aside from finishing was poor but he knows where to be when it matters and his off the ball movement was sometimes good despite his knack of miss judging his runs too early.
If you can afford a player like that in your team, great. But it's getting harder and harder to carry someone who offers little else than scoring. Especially if you're 2nd best in most games.
He'd probably score a bunch in a top team.

Re: Chris Wood
Loved Chris wood, best striker I can remember at the club.
The folk that used to slag him off on here and twitter have changed their tune to "yeah but what about his last season where he didn't try" to try and justify it.
However, I clearly remember people giving him stick all the way through his time here, even when getting goals. The "offside" jokes.
Probably the same ones who are now calling for parker to be sacked tbf. Brain-dead simpletons

Just scored a hat trick for New Zealand (against the mighty Samoa)
