The technical quality of players we are producing now thanks to academies coupled with proper coaching, training and lifestyles means it's only a matter of time before we win something, gutted that it couldn't have been Southgate as he'd earned and deserved a trophy but it didn't happen but should have, shame it isn't an English manager who will win a trophy as has been mentioned everything is in place for Tuchel.

Don't make me pull out the list of teams Southgate beat Vs the ones he lost to.

A flat track bully they call it in cricket.
Pull them out all you want,I’ve never seen us in so many semis or finals under any other manager.

Southgate's negativity cost us 2 finals and a semi final.
His negativity got us to two finals and one semi
The most successful manger since the 1960/70s and Sir Alf Ramsey
Yes Southgate was shocking
Worse than all who went before him since the 1940’s save for Sir Alf

All teams throughout the history of sport tend to beat teams lesser than them and lose to ones better. That’s really how sport works. It’s the lesser teams beating the better teams occasionally that makes us keep watching.

Not saying he's shocking, he is a very good international manager but if the ultimate aim is to win a trophy he failed, all the pundits highlighted his cautious tactical approach which gets you so far ultimately cost us as well as being to loyal to a clearly out of form/injured Kane.

Think we got to those finals in spite of GS. Not because of him. He tried his level best to get beat by Slovakia, Switzerland and Netherlands.

Used more get out jail free cards than top hat playing monoply.

But in this case 'a flat track bully' is a good thing. Previous managers didn't achieve that.

These International breaks are very tedious :(
I believe i read that from next year they will be trialling 2 week of 4 games long international breaks so hopefully will be significantly less disruption.

Yep. GS did exactly that over 8 years, 2 finals a semi final, but “failed” apparently.
As i wrote on a post during the build up to the final this year

These are the teams and results from the last 4 (including this year) tournaments under Southgate. The headlines say 2 Euros finals, a Quarter final and semi final at 2 world cups. However, look at the teams we've played. Only Germany in 2021 and last night's game can we truly say we've done the same/better than expected. I don't understand how we've managed to be so lucky to be honest.

2018 WC Russia
GS - Tunisia W 2-1
GS - Panama W 6-1
GS - Belgium L 0-1
L16 - Colombia D 1-1 (W 4-3 on penalties)
QF - Sweden W 2-0
SF - Croatia L 1-2

Euro 2020/21
GS - Croatia W 1-0
GS - Scotland D 0-0
GS - Czechia W 1-0
L16 - Germany W 2-0
QF - Ukraine W 4-0
SF - Denmark W 2-1
Final - Italy D 1-1 (L 3-2 on penalties)

2022 WC Qatar
GS - Iran W 6-2
GS - USA D 0-0
GS - Wales W 3-0
L16 - Senegal W 3-0
QF - France L 1-2

Euro 2024
GS - Serbia W 1-0
GS - Denmark D 1-1
GS - Slovenia D 0-0

What’s your point?

GS has been heavily criticised for “failure”
Yet LC applauded for laying the foundations are making the selection pool bigger by giving so many players a chance.

Southgate was heavily protected from up on high against media criticism.

Some of the punditry at the Euros was downright bizarre, and at times they wouldn't even mention him by name in fear of a backlash.

Compare that now to the inane headlines about Tuchel and Carsley not singing the anthem etc and it makes you wonder.

The punditry at the last euros was an absolute joke.

Southgate was rightly ripped a new one by his old pals for the boring, inane, ineffective, defensive minded and safe style we’d been playing, and for playing players who were OBVIOUSLY unfit/injured, only for it to change for the final game where they heaped praise on him en masse. Utterly bizarre how they all did an U turn so quickly, and yet another nail in the football coffin for me. It was almost as if they’d woken to find a horses head in their beds…

If it wasn’t for Burnley, I could quite easily never watch another game of football. I hate what it’s become, how it’s run and now how it’s played.
