I used to love his Sunday paper reviews.

Sad news, even sadder when it's a fellow Claret.

I hope his family are all OK. x

Big part of that old Friday night thing on CM with Eli, Burnleybabe, Bodge/Karen et al.

Met him in person only a couple of times at the organised CM footie matches and seemed a genuinely nice bloke.

RIP Big Dave.

One the many good eggs I met in person during the old yearly CM dinners. My thoughts go out to his sons, wider family and friends. RIP Dave.

Big Dave will be sorely missed! :(
I used to love his Sunday paper reviews and each article laced with his unique humour!
Thanks for the entertainment Big Dave! ;)
RIP BD...and condolences to your family!

Here are several posts from circa 2020 from various members expressing how much his articles were valued by so many:
Really miss Big Daves Sunday posts.

Big Dave had a superb taste in music I seem to recall. Robert Zimmerman being the top of his list
…The Sunday Times They Are A Changin’

Don't mention Trump to him if you see him in Tesco
I read BD's Sunday paper review every week, you don't know what you've got til it's gone, as they say

Big D's Sunday Review always added a bit of 'properness' to Sundays.
I miss them too.
Can't believe it's 5 years since it went out of print

How can you recognise when it is Sunday, without Big Dave?

I have missed Sunday's, these last 5 years.

Kind of always looked forward to it as i was at work at the time on Sundays .

Dave didn’t just pinch the headliners from BBC Gossip and SSN. He picked up on the items tucked away in the corners and then added his own magic.
I miss it as well.

I still feel lost without it on a Sunday morning. Come on Dave, give us another for old times' sake

RIP Dave, and condolences to all that know and loved him.

The Sunday review is something that passed me by unfortunately, but it's obvious how much it gave people cheer on here. Just an idea, but would it be possible to recover his articles and publish them in a collection? It would serve as a nice memoir of sorts, and I'm sure folk on here could collectively cover the costs.

We are very saddened to hear of Dave's passing.
He was a thoughtful, considerate and kind man and always a joy to be in his company. At the "Clarets Mad" dinners held at the season end he would always reserve a place at his table for us and was such fun. He was also great to be with pre-match in "The Park View".
Our thoughts are with his boys and family at this tragic time.
RIP Billy Windows we will always remember you.

I am pleased that so many remember my dad so fondly. All the kind words do provide comfort at what is an indescribably painful time. The worst pain I have ever felt.

It’s really nice that many people remember my dad’s paper reviews years after he stopped posting them.

Enjoyed his paper reviews very much. So much so I stopped getting one and read BigDave48’s reviews instead. Can’t remember why he stopped doing them, but this board was worse for it when he did.

Agree his paper reviews were great, and I spoke to him on several occasions when I used to edit the fanzine.
Best wishes to his family and friends at this sad time.

Big Dave was always there to help out at our fundraising days. He would walk round the pitch at Padiham with his collecting bucket and he did a brilliant job in 2014 when we played the former Clarets there to raise money for McMillan in memory of our former poster NUTZ who had passed away with cancer in the previous year.

But, it was at 'Royal' Rishton when we had one of our golf days when he came up trumps. There were some really good prizes in the raffle but when he won a prize, it was just an umbrella. Everyone had a laugh at his expense but who had the last laugh? Dave did, because when we left it was throwing it down.

Burnley’s win yesterday definitely was one for Big Dave, and in those conditions, his umbrella too! Now all we need is his Sunday morning paper review telling us that Man City are lining up a ten year contract extension for Rodri, such is his importance to the team. Sleep well, Dave.

I’m sure his lads are still missing him, just as I still miss my dad, who died five years ago this coming Saturday. Enjoy the memories.

'Oh no' were my initial words when I saw the thread title!

I didn't know Big Dave personally and wouldn't have known him if I passed him in the street, but his newspaper reviews were a joy to behold! He seemed like the type of guy I would be glad to call a friend!

RIP Big Dave and sincere condolences to all his dearest family and friends ♥️

It’s been a weird day. The first time in my life I haven’t spoken to him to wish him happy birthday.

I miss him so much but I know he wouldn’t want me moping about.
His favourite film was shawshank redemption, and I can imagine him saying to me “get busy living”…..and I will. My kids will always know the great man he was, and how he raised me and Steven on his own.

Shame we couldn’t muster a win today

Coincidently Tony, Tim and I were reminiscing about Dave after the Luton game on Saturday.
Dave was a wonderful man, kind, humorous, thoughtful and generous. Perhaps most of all he was always great company.
You are missed by the Spencer family.

My apols as I hadn't read the initial post by CT correctly believing Dave had just passed and also thinking that I had a recollection of posting about the passing of a Claret called Dave. I now realise that I also had passed on my respects in November and his memory yesterday was being remembered on his 77th birthday. Hope I have not caused any offence to his family and friends.

Big Dave would probably have had a laugh at getting your condolences twice and then told you to bugger off, which is what he told me most of the time.
