Radio 2 revamp…
Another re-hash with the announcement today. I was initially ok with Zoe Ball calling it a day, not a fan of her “lovey dovey, ma darlin’, hey there beautiful girl, everything and everyone is great” style, and the fact that none of her guests can get a word in, but disappointed it’s Scott Mills taking over. It means I still won’t be touching R2 until Vernon at half nine.
The REAL disappointment is the station not finding a prime time slot for Amol Rajan though. He’s an excellent presenter both on the radio and the telly box.
I suppose Trevor Nelson is ok though… although I’d still like to see (hear) Liza Tarbuck get a workday, work time slot.
Your thoughts?

Stopped listening to Zoe Ball a while back for the same reasons as you, thought she struggled on the outside broadcast for Paddy on Friday, had to turn it off in the end. It came as no surprise that she has announced she is leaving breakfast.
Scott Mills, initially thought he was nervous and boring when he started the afternoon slot however I think since marriage and doing that round the world to programme he has improved and is quite sharp and close to the bone.
Trevor Nelson, acceptable. Would have preferred Spoony.
Agree on Amol and another who I find easy listening is Anita Rani.

Not really a fan of Scott Mills. Don't mind Trevor Nelson though so at least the afternoon show will be an easier listen.

Agree 100pc with everything you have said there bobinho. The only thing I can stand to listen to at all during the day on Radio 2 atm is Jeremy Kyle's show and that's only because it covers topical subjects with people calling in, JK himself is an irritant.
The line-up now is just one falsely overly-enthusastic, unfunny presenter after another and transferring the hospital radio standard mediocrity that is Scott Mills to breakfast doesn't change that. I suppose Trevor Nelson is less annoying than Zoe Ball but that's the only positive thing I can say . I'll still be listening to Matt Chorley on Radio 5 in the afternoon.
The decline began when Simon Mayo was replaced by the unfunny yummy mummy type Sara Cox. It's like whoever controls radio 2 thinks it's audience needs to be addressed as if they are primary school children. Terrible.

Vernons settled in nicely and he's quite fun to listen to.
Sara Cox is similar in style but I can't say I'm a favourite of Scott Mills as he plays too much dance music, he needs to appeal to a broader base. Maybe getting the early slot will change his playlist.

Re: Radio 2 revamp…
Scott Mills was good on Radio 1 and formed a great partnership with Chris Stark, but doesn't really work on Radio 2 (maybe because Chris has gone to Capital). I can see why they've gone for him on the breakfast show though - has the right 'style'. Surprised how good Vernon Kay has been in Ken Bruce's old mid morning show. Trevor Nelson is a good DJ, especially on the evening shows, but not sure if he's right for the afternoon slot. Would have preferred somebody like Shaun Keaveny.
Doesn't Amol Rajan already present the Today show on Radio 4?

Jeremy Vine, can’t listen to him for more than a minute without getting irate.Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 5:19 pmAgree 100pc with everything you have said there bobinho. It wasn’t Cox who was the issue imo, they paired Mayo up with Jo Wiley and it ruined a perfectly functioning drive time show.
Re: Radio 2 revamp…
I’m pretty open minded when it comes to music but his love of crap girl/boy bands from the 90s/00s does my head in.
His conversations with listeners too are as dull as dishwater.
He was one of the reasons I stopped listening to radio one years ago.
Sarah Cox isnt too bad when she’s not rambling on about what she’s had for breakfast, she has half decent taste in music at least.

He would do a decent job too on weekday Radio ... (still can't do with him thoughSwizzlestick wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 5:37 pmCurrent Radio 2 DJ Paddy McGuinness??
Already does a show at the weekend and it's alright, to be honest.
Also as has been said above about Vernon Kaye ... his mid morning slot has seemlessly taken over from Ken Bruce very well ...

Re: Radio 2 revamp…
Aye I think he’d work quite well in the afternoon slot but more than a couple of days of him might be too much…
Re: Radio 2 revamp…
Love listening to Gary Davies on Saturday night, his music knowledge is good and the variety of music is excellent ( Appreciate its an 80's show) also does a decent job when filling in for other DJ'S

Liza Tarbuck is excellent. I can't stand Scott Mills. I rarely bother with Radio 2 nowadays, maybe a bit of pick of the pops in Saturday early afternoon.

Re: Radio 2 revamp…
Tonight the BBC News Channel headlines that US-made missiles have been fired on to Russian territory and Rasputin threatens nuclear retaliation. Then second in the pecking order is that Zoe Bell is stepping down from her breakfast show!!! That's ahead of COP-29, Farmers vs Inheritance Tax, the PM meeting the Chinese leadership at the Geegees, jailing of Kong Kong dissenters, Maori uprising in NZ, snow up north, and other stuff that's arguably newsworthy. And if it's not enough to be contriving news stories about Strictly Gone Groping, Gary Lineker, Zoe Ball et al, the BBC also punctuates its news channel content with endlessly repeated episodes of conceited self advertising by the likes of the awful Laura Kuenssberg and some misfortunate who waves his prosthetic limbs around and tells us why he became a journalist, er no sorry, a celebrity...
The BBC is hopelessly self-obsessed, any good stuff it does might just as easily be delivered commercially and without public subsidy.
Bugger, Folkestone have missed a penalty

A lot showing their age on here
Personally think Cox is great, has my kind of humour which helps.
Never been a huge Zoe Ball fan, feels a bit forced but she's OK.

Even though he's a Rover's fan, get Graham Liver on from radio lancs, he deserves a big gig.

Re: Radio 2 revamp…
This is the issue here for Radio 2 bosses, - too many of their DJ line up tend to play stuff that they personally like. Whilst I’m definitely pleased that Ball is going, her replacement ( Mills ), is gonna clog up the airwaves with his preference for Girls Aloud, Sugar Babes, Spice Girls etc etc, and then Trevor Nelson will play R n B, and dance music all afternoon. And don’t even get me started on Mills’ stupid bloody birthday game. Puerile nonsense. They should have put Vernon on the breakfast gig, then Gary Davies straight after him.

He’s the reason why we gave up on Radio Lancs about 5 years ago - and nothing to do with his footballing allegiance.HuncoatClaret wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 9:24 pmEven though he's a Rover's fan, get Graham Liver on from radio lancs, he deserves a big gig.
I note that he seems to have disappeared from tv, which is a relief. I really did fear that they might be building him up for a key role on tv.
It’s Radio 4 for us every morning now, which despite what people from both the left and right claim, seems very balanced to me and has some excellent articulate presenters.

Simon Bates - our tune. Them were the days. We used to have such a laugh listening to those stories at work.

I still miss Wogan. He gave air play to a lot of stars before anyone had heard of them. Loved his sardonic humour too.

I was hoping for Keaveny to take over Mills' slot in the afternoon. I wonder if he's quite enjoying his new furrow and would have told them to stick it anyway

I was gutted when he left R6.
