If he could stay fit then yes, but the last thing we need is another player clogging up the physio's room.

I’d love him but his £125k a week will prevent that!

He's been a bit part player for over two seasons and I suspect that sharpness he once had around the goal has deserted him

Nope. Too much money, not enough return. By that I mean time on the pitch, not anything else.

Been a very good player has Danny. Loved him whilst he was here. Always seemed ‘brittle’ to me but I may be being a little harsh….

It certainly hadn't deserted him when he came on late in the game against the Hammers last season and snatched an equaliser when we should have had all three points.

Absolutely. From memory he could have had a hat trick. Didn't he hit the bar and have a goal ruled out, too. No lack of sharpness on view there.
Got to know him quite well in the 2 seasons he had with us as he lived very close by. A perfect gentleman, always had time for a little chat.

If a loan deal could be done, i.e. we paid some of his wages, would he actually want to come? Even though he’d be almost guaranteed a start every game I’m not sure he’d want any changes to his current big city lifestyle, I don’t know that of course but to answer the question yes I’d love him back with us.

Would love him back but, as previous posters have indicated, he's not going to give up being in a Premier League matchday squad picking up more than decent wages to come back here.

The best player I’ve seen in a Burnley shirt. Absolute first class pro and to score that winner against Rovers makes him even more of star. However let’s not go back to ex players. It rarely works.

If Ings hadn't played for us before and we were looking at a striker aged 32 who had scored 1 league goal this season, 1 last season, 2 the season before and was on +100K a week nobody would think it made sense.

We definitely need a fox in the box type striker. I had hoped Fleming was going to be that man, but he's been asked to play a different role.

Danny Ings would still be a great player at this level, but his wages would put him beyond the reach of anyone, unless it's as a loan. He has that natural ability to find space in crowded areas that we are missing atm. That said we'd still need to put the ball in there more often than at present.

Label it under pie in the sky.

Fully fit playing every game at this level he would bag minimum 25 goals and we would go up. Sadly there’s a good chance we would be paying him as our top earner to sit in the physios room.

Possibly worth a gamble on loan with a reasonable wage contribution subject to fitness/availability.

Think I'll watch that. I love watching an in form Damny Ings so will be interesting to see if he's got it. I still think he could have been talked about the way Firmino is in that brilliant Liverpool team if he'd stayed fit.
As close to a world class player as I've ever seen in a Burnley shirt.

Surely Steven Defour, who also had caps for a high ranked international team is closer to "world class", whatever that actually means.

I'd also say that Trips was nearer world class than Ings, which is backed up by his club and international record compared to that of Ings

Defour was never quite top level maybe because of the injury.

People will disagree but I think Ings was, he was brilliant dropping in as a 10 or false 9 his touch and link play was sensational but then he also had the movement and goal threat of a proper number 9. He had everything Firmino had with a much bigger goal threat.

Sensational player.

Trippier was great also but had obvious limitations with a slight lack of pace and struggled for a lot of his career 1v1 until Simeone got hold of him.

Not quite as bad as the call from some to bring Cornet back. He left almost two and a half years ago and has started four league games since.

I'd suggest neither of them were close but in a queue there is no doubt that Trippier comes the closer. Danny Ings was terrific for us in our promotion season of 2013/14, had his moments without doubt in the next season. He had that outstanding season at Southampton too in 2019/20 when he couldn't stop scoring goals. He blotted his copy book at Burnley with his comments at the tribunal, probably handed to him by Liverpool. But I think his time is coming to an end now.

I went to the Leicester game last night. Some of the WHU players were dropped last night because they were poor in a team that conceded 5 in the first half v Arsenal. I am confident that had Antonio started instead of Ings it would have been a different result last night. I dont think Danny is going to feature much longer for WHU now, and can see him going for a knock down price or on a FREE. Southampton were meant to be taking him in the last window but I think he will struggle to stay in the PL now. He was well below the performance last night of several years ago

My thoughts entirely. Whoever thinks Ings was our best player never saw Taffy or Dobson or Thomas or Coates or Noble or…need I go on. That’s without even going back to Jimmy Mac or Pointer or…I’ll stop now. Great player was Ings but doesn’t make my top ten even.

That may be the case for your generation, but I'm 41, and we were in division 4 when I first went on. Therefore for a good proportion of the fan base, Ings, Defour etc are without a doubt up there as the best we've seen.

All about opinions obviously.
I only saw Taffy and Dobson in their latter spells with the club. Shows how bad we were when they were both up there as the best player in the team been though they were at the end of their careers….also shows how good both of them were too !

I did see Noble in my first ever game watching Burnley - home leg of the final of Anglo Scottish cup v Oldham. So again only saw him in back end of his career too. Did not see Coates play.

I agree Ings is not the best player to player for Burnley - and probably not in the top eleven either. But in terms of players I have actually seen play for us I’d say it was between Ings and Trippier.

Füllkrug is coming back so when fit it will either be him or Antonio up top.

Mind you, any more defeats and they'll be a new manager there so who knows.

Danny was unlucky not to score against Arsenal on Saturday.

Absolutely. It’s an age thing.

Defour was never quite top level maybe because of the injuries.
Detour had 50 caps for the 1 ranked international team in the world and played alongside other world class players.

He was more than top level, as shown when he played forcus, against the best.

Injilury stopped him playing for the biggest of club's, not his ability.
