In the last round Weston Super Mare drew at Bristol Rovers in 90 minutes and were robbed of a replay, ended up losing after extra time. Obviously a bit of a local derby as well and would have been a big payday for them.

It’s not right is it? Harborough should be getting a home replay now. The National League clubs voted in favour of scrapping replays because they were given a cup competition from the Premier League.

So was I. Dickie Guy in their goal is still a legend to this day. I have never seen a better gk performance in my life. Did the same against Leeds in the next round although Leeds won the replay.
Re: FA Cup 3rd Round Draw Thread
Can understand the replays being scrapped overall, but for the first 2 rounds they should be allowed purely for financial reasons. But I guess that's not possible if it isn't done for the rest of the competition.

In all likelihood we will get a really tough but unglamorous away game (Brighton, Palace etc.). Or City.

I don’t live near there but know the area well… I do go a few times a year as I prefer it massivley over Blackpool / St Anne’s way and never been to that stadiumhoosier-daddy wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 6:01 pmGuessing you live near there - is the Heysham Power station still standing?
Usually nip into Scorton village on the way too
The power station is standing strong … my mum and dad had a caravan at Ocean Edge when I was a kid and used to ride my bike on the outskirts of it and the port
Good times playing around a Nuclear Power Station

It would be interesting to see how teams from the lower leagues have fared after going into extra time overall as well. As well as losing out on the financial bonus of a reply my sense is that most of them get beat in extra timeClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 8:07 pmIt’s not right is it? Re: FA Cup 3rd Round Draw Thread
It was possible last year.
The reason for scrapping replays is that it isn't convenient for the teams with the biggest squads, and they are teams who play all the reserves anyway. It would be far simpler to have replays as normal but allow teams that don't want a replay, to forfeit the match instead. (Decision to be posted before the game.)
Re: FA Cup 3rd Round Draw Thread
Yeah, I understand that. It still feels somewhat like a contradiction coz if those sides against replays have big squads then surely they can out put a weakened yet competitive side, even if it means playing under 21/23 players, who would still give a lower league side a good game. I'd imagined that the rules must be the same throughout the whoe competition regardless the round, but from what you're saying it wasn't the case last season. Not sure why the Conference and lower league sides have agreed to no replays in these early rounds and accepted some mickey mouse comp.dsr wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 10:31 pmIt was possible last year.

Re: FA Cup 3rd Round Draw Thread
I think of the 32 non league clubs who played in the first round, only three are in the draw tonight
Re: FA Cup 3rd Round Draw Thread
Somewhere like Harrogate, Dag&Red or Tamworth away would be good

Re: FA Cup 3rd Round Draw Thread
Not an exciting draw but you'd think we should be capable of getting through with our 'second string' out, and that is what we hoped for. I am not sure I can be bothered though after the nightmare journey home I had after the 0-0 in 22/23.

Some great ties for the lower league clubs, Accy at Liverpool, Morecambe at Chelsea, Bromley at Newcastle, Harrogate at Leeds, Salford at City all big money ties for them and Tamworth at home to Spurs guaranteed to be on TV.

Was it about 2011 we played them there in the FA Cup and lost?
I think Sigurdsson, who later went on to play for Spurs scored the goal.

That’s one of the better third round draws. Prefer a home game, but very winnable.
Brilliant for the smaller clubs. And Manure at the Arsenal. Lol
