Really pleasing performance in terrible conditions. we still are really light in the final third though. Oh for a bench of a decent striker, Tresor, Redmond and Benson to come on and cause havoc. Thought Boro looked neat and tidy, but we are better than them.

Trafford 7 - Looked pretty solid
Roberts 8* - Looks to have a real winning spirit this season.
Egan 7 Did well considering it was his first game for ages.
Esteve 7 -Badly at fault for their goal
Humphreys 7 - did well against a tricky midget
Cullen 8 - Superb as usual
Brownhill 8 - one of his better games
Anthony 7 - Point off for not playing Brownhill in near the end
Sarmiento 8 - Must have been a recaution to take him off. Was very good.
Koleosho 5- It's like playing with 10 men sometimes, he can be a liability. Ned the other wingers back fit sharpish.
Rodriguez 5 - Didn't offer much

Hannibal 5 - Felt sorry for him, was doing ok until shunted out wide.
Flemming 5 - Got the feeling we may have bought a dud here
Laurent -7 some neat play.
Pires - 7

The subs killed the game, but I think that was more to our lack of options than anything else. Keep picking up points until Jan, then bring in some much needed firepower.

Absolutely Incredible that Jay would
Score more points tonite than Luca. Whilst koleosho hasn’t had a game changing effect in the game, he worked hard, drove forward with the ball (lost it) and chased back to get it. Jay was totally anonymous. I thought he’d perhaps turned a corner “Barnes- esque”, but he hasn’t. He was bloody awful. Like playing with 10 men.

Jay got an assist because he takes minimal touches and just uses the ball efficiently. Koleosho apparently still hadn't had an assist all season.

It's no coincidence that the performance collapsed when Jay went off

Just back, not seen their goal again but it was certainly a cock up so unsure who was at fault. Nevertheless a decent point in horrendous conditions

Trafford 8 - his safe handling in torrid conditions made it look a lot easier than it is. Standing up strong to Latte Lath saved us the match.

Roberts - 8 he's in a good run of form and was great again tonight. Always running and looking to make things happen. I have to admit I think it was more of a hopeful swipe assisted by the wind, rather than a calculated effort but who cares

Egan - 6 can't unfairly Judge him as he is clearly 4th or 5th choice center back lacking match sharpness.

Esteve 6 - point taken off for the goal. Sure Egan played everyone on but there was no need for him to press as he did, leaving a huge gap in the first place. If he doesn't do that then they don't score.

Humphries 8 - Would've been my man of the match had Roberts not scored.

Brownhill 6 - He has big energy as always but tonight in microcosm is why he isn't going to go be a first team fixture at a Premier League club. Where he got played in in the second half and tamely shot at the keeper did my head in, in particular. If he'd have got his head up then there was someone arriving in the box in acres.

Cullen - 7 coming back into a rich vein of form and there really isn't much better in the league in his position when he's at it.

Koleosho - 6 again can't fault the industry but once again his decision making and end product were poor.

Sarmiento - 7. I'd have given him 8 in the first half, where he was electric, and a 6 for the second, where he faded badly and possibly due to his pecker being up, he tried to do too much.

Anthony - 5. Watching the highlights of when we last played Boro,Ive finally realised what bugs me about Anthony. He isn't a winger/forward that is constantly looking to beat his man like Benny, Anass or Luca. It can make him look quite pedestrian, and whilst he has got good output in terms of G/A, and an eye for a cute little pass - when it doesn't come off it can look like we're carrying him. Not necessarily his fault, just my perception. The other end of the scale is just being a busy fool like Luca is sometimes.

J-Rod - 6 I think it was Anthony that tried playing him in behind a few times. Come on mate, be nice to him. A thankless task tonight and again can't fault the effort. Was let down by the standard of delivery but can't be too harsh about that, the weather was appalling.

Flemming 5 - uhoh. He looked liked our new Ashley Barnes a few months ago but is now looking like our new Lukas Jutkiewicz. It was Sarmiento and Hannibal I thought wouldn't have a place when the injured lads came back but it's going to be him if he carries on.

Hannibal Laurent and Pires - 6 a piece. Didn't really impact the game.

A good point in the circumstances, the wind swirling in all directions made for hard work and both sides coped well.

Failing to clear the ball in the 2nd half could have cost us but they certainly fluffed their lines and huge credit to Trafford for making the saves look so easy.

A bit less passing and a little more shooting might just increase our goal tally.

Not disappointed.

Trafford 7 - Did well in testing conditions and that decision he had to make to handle it right on the edge of his own area was absolutely perfect.
Roberts 8 - Really upped his game last few matches, seems to be enjoying getting forward more.
Egan 5 - Not convinced at all. His positioning and reading of the game looked really shaky, they should have also scored when he lost his man in the box, luckily it was a tame effort.
Esteve 7 - Didi everything well without any fuss or real trouble.
Humphreys 7 - Lost his man for the goal, otherwise one of our best players last night with how well he handled the tricky Doaks.
Cullen 8 - Thought he was excellent in the middle, especially the amount of headers he won against their midfield, one cracking run too.
Brownhill 6 - just has a habit of rushing things and making the wrong decision in the crucial moment right now. Would have preferred to see Laurent starting.
Anthony 5 - Too weak, too often. Pulls out of all the 50/50's. Clearly has talent, but looks to hold himself back.
Sarmiento 8 - Shouldn't have been replaced. He was really trying to make things happen and looked our danger man.
Koleosho 5 - I can't tell if he is just tired or his confidence has gone, but even when he did win the ball, he would almost instantly lose it again.
Rodriguez 5 - Didn't really affect it tonight and just couldn't get into the game.

Hannibal 4 - Hard to blame him though, he just isn't suited to playing that high up the field. Inevitable yellow card too.
Flemming 5 - Same as ay, no impact.

Full credit to both teams for putting on a performance in appalling conditions. I'm not a great fan of playing in such conditions as to me it makes the outcome a lottery and in the end we were lucky to come out with a point imo.

From Now TV

Trafford 7 His positioning saved a good number of attempts, a good sign, the one on one saved us the game.
Roberts 9 MOM great goal.
Egan 6 looked injured at the end
Esteve 7
Humphreys 7 battled hard against their winger, not sure about the Right Centre back if CJ and Egan are out.
Cullen 8
Brownhill 7
Anthony 8 always tries non stop, fails goes again, repeat
Sarmiento 8 Growing in the 10 role
Koleosho 6 Too much inside again, not enough round the tin.
Rodriguez 5 not really in this, this time.

Subs:
Flemming 6
Hannibal 6
Laurent 7
Pirez 7

Boro looked a good team now but they will be playoffs if they lose anymore, however will be a favourite in them play offs. We badly need a striker and more options up front even from the bench.

From Live TV.

Trafford - 7 - Maybe a tiny bit suspect for the goal but, especially considering the conditions, another assured display.

Roberts - 8 - Would have been 9 and MoM but for his silly squabble with Latte Lath (although it looked to me that Latte Lath started it this is Roberts we are talking about). Very dynamic play all over the pitch. Nice goal (possibly wind assisted) and posed other goal threats.

Egan - 7 - Did well considering this is his first full match for us. OK defensively but not much going forward.

Esteve - 9 - Super display, practically faultless. Even drove us forward a couple of times

Humphreys - 7 - At fault for their goal but stuck to his task dealing with Doak and did well most of the time. Also helped in attack. Moved to centre back where he seemed unsure of himself.

Sarmiento - 7 - Lots of good work and trickery both pressing and in attack. Links well on the right with Anthony, Roberts and sometimes Cullen.

Cullen - 9 - MoM - What a performance, defence, attack, a goal threat. So many good things.

Brownhill - 8 - Another good performer all over the pitch and with a goal threat.

Anthony - 7 - Effective display we’ve come to expect. Some good crosses from both wings but little goal threat.

Rodriguez - 7 - Battled hard but was well shackled by Fry and Edmundson.

Koleosho - 7 - Extra point for his defensive work but in attack he was back to his usual self - he could not get past Dijksteel.

Subs:

Flemming - 6 - Offers something different but I felt we lost focus in attack when he came on. A couple of defence splitting passes.

Hannibal - 4 - One good move aside, when he should have played the ball to the free Anthony, he offered little. Worse he again got sucked into a feud, the Roberts - Latte Lath incident - for no reason. Worrall had to pull him out. Then got a late yellow card. That’s now 5, one in every 146 mins according to the stats. Will he ever learn.

Not on long enough:

Pires - Gave us some attacking option down the left and not much to do in defence.

Laurent - Does what he does and does it well!

What a gripping and enjoyable match in awful conditions that seemed to get worse as the game went on. Credit to players of both sides and the excellent officials.

We were fortunate to get a point but this is the best side we have played since Leeds and it shows how we have progressed.

The first half was pretty even. What was pleasing was that we pinned them back for long spells and whilst they defended well we still managed to look a real threat - that is real progress. Their goal looked to me like a fluke. Humphreys did not register the threat of Dijksteel and when he caught up with him gave a little nudge in his back. Dijksteel did what today’s footballers are taught and went for the penalty. He did the ‘clip your own legs’ routine and started to go down. He lost control of his feet but in falling somehow got his right foot under the ball and over the advancing Trafford. It looked good and he deserved the goal. Middlesbrough did look a threat when they got forward and came close on two other ocassions in the first half. We had two or three possibilities too, including Robert’s nice goal, but nothing clear cut.

In the second half we seem to lose that threat and Middlesbrough started to control the match. They really should have won it with three golden chances. In fact I was surprised they started wasting time in the last fifteen minutes rather then go for the win.

The substitutions were, unusually, a bit odd. Presumably taking off Rodriguez and Sarmiento was with an eye to Tuesday but our attack changed. We looked less of a threat but still had a few chances which we never made the most of them. Then came Pires for the injured Egan? Wouldn’t Worrall have been a better choice? Pires added to our attack but the moving Humphreys weakened our central defence.

Did we miss Egan-Riley? Possibly. He has the range of forward passes but we still got forward well. Defensively it’s harder to say because of the high standard of the opposition.

One corner aside there is still much work to be done on dead ball situations.

Overall though I’m pleased with a well earned point and the game showed we can mix it with the better sides.

Dijksteel, the Middlesbrough left back. What a display of full backmanship! Only Anthony managed to beat him, twice. Koleosho and Pires couldn’t get past him. And a goal as well.

Very good first half, deserving of the equaliser. Not as good after the break especially when Sarmiento went off. Dreadful conditions and the game generally played in a good spirit apart from the last few minutes. Desperately need a more mobile centre forward but needs must and that will have to wait until the new year.

Trafford 7-one great save
Roberts 8-one of our most effective players going forward
Esteve 8 generally calm and read things well
Egan 6-did nothing wrong but a tough act to follow ER
Humphreys 8-one of his best games for us against a very tricky player
Brownhill 7-better than in the last half dozen games
Cullen 8-currently back to his best
Koleosho 5-tries so hard but not been effective lately. Would benefit from being rested
Sarmiento 7-very lively first half
Anthony 7-gets criticised burt he is one player who makes this happen.Got a number of crosses in, and some great corners
Jay 5-he has had a good run now but is expected to do a lot at 35. Not got the legs or speed of thought anymore

From tv
Trafford 7 not a lot to do, but he needs to speed up his passing
Robert's 8 my mom, involved everywhere plus one for the goal
Egan 6 he played like he hadn't played for weeks
Esteve 8 another good performance
Humphreys 7 did well against their tricky winget
Anthony 6 frustrating, decent first half then downhill
Cullen 7 playing well as of late
Brownhill 7 worked hard with plenty of skill
Koleosho 5 sooo frustrating, he's got pace and talent but hasn't got a clue what to do with it
Saramiento 8 excellent first half then faded
Jayrod 5 too many games in a short period of time, he's not one for the future, is he?

Flemming 6 he is NOT a center forward
Hannibal 5 I have no idea what he is trying to do when he comes on.
A fair result in difficult conditions. Koleosho, Hannibal and Anthony need taking on one side by Parker and the coaching set up and told clearly what their jobs are. They have to be told not to run down blind alleys, not to give the ball away every time they touch it, and to pass to a team mate who is in a better position. Our whole attacking play breaks down far too often when they get the ball. I'm sure Parker must be able to see this: it can't be difficult to teach them the basics.

Trafford - 7 Decent enough game, a few saves that turned out to be routine from what were good chances. Distribution fine, although does give me the collywobbles at times.
Roberts - 8 Standout performance from him. Used the conditions well ;) for his goal.
Egan - 6 Rusty. Played them onside for their goal. Looked knackered before he was subbed.
Esteve - 6 One of his less good performances and lost his player for the headed chance they had.
Humphreys - 8 The best game I've seen him play. Up against a highly rated talent and played him very well, sharp to intercept and physical, also a lovely run down the left and cross.
Anthony - 6 His job is to put crosses in and he did that, but they weren't very good. Should have played Brownhill in late on.
Brownhill - 6 Decent - good number of interceptions to win the ball back and a cracking shot in the 1st half. I see he got an assist for the goal - I'd have given it to the conditions.
Cullen - 7 Good performance, tries to get us up the pitch, moves the ball well.
Koleosho - 5 Frustrating, runs into too many blind alleys; does not seem to want to take the full-back down the side-line - has he lost a bit of pace. I lost count of the number of times he got his foot in to regain possession and then immediately lost it, although did put a shift in to try to nullify Doak.
Sarmiento - 8 Our best player, I thought, until he was subbed. Inventive, quick, beats players.
Jay Rod - 5 Not one of his best, although did put in a last ditch interception/tackle when I thought they would be clear.

Hannibal - 5 Took the card for the team - should have played in Anthony but decided to go it alone.
Laurent - 7 Looked so strong and imperious when he came on, but lacks pace.
Flemming - 5 Playing up top is not his position, but he does it for the team. Has my sympathy.
Pires - 6 Looked cultured, but struggled to make a real impression.

Perhaps I should have marked everyone higher, 'cos the conditions were horrendous and they all contributed to an entertaining game - something that's not been the norm on the Turf recently.

Trafford 8
Roberts 8
Egan 7
Estève 8
Humphreys 9 He is going to be an absolutely splendid Esteve replacement in 12 -18 months I think
Cullen 6
Brownhill 7
Anthony 6 Having just slated Hannibal for not passing before his own wild shot, rather than feeding Brownhill in, is unforgiveable
Sarmiento 8 Shouldn't have been taken off
Koleosho 5 Nearly gave him a 4. I don't disagree with jdrobbo's comments on the other thread. But that doesn't mean he avoids criticism or should start no matter what. Terrible decision making. No final ball. Really doesn't look like he will outdo any defender for pace atm. I think he needs Pires to be effective, but even then he's wasteful most if the time. Someone needs to give him some seriously intense coaching, because otherwise his natural talent is gonna be completely wasted.
Rodriguez 6

Flemming 6 At some point hopefully we sill see him as a 10
Hannibal 5 I'm still trying to work out how we get the most of out him. He has talent for sure, but haven't see enough yet

A point is a good result, taking into consideration the conditions and we went behind early with a new defensive line up.

Trafford - 8 - Solid performance. Some good saves. Nothing he could do with the goal, one of the strangest finishes admitted by the scorer.

Roberts - 8 - Great goal and as dynamic as usual.

Humphrys- 8.5* - Up against their best player and came out on top whilst Sky wax lyrical about the few attacks he managed. He was unaware that Egan wasn't up with the defensive line when they scored, so left the player in (what he assumed) was in an offside position.

Egan - 6.5 - At fault the goal and the thankless task of covering for CJER after being out for a long time. He played ok but it showed that we missed the stability and creativity at the back.

Esteve- 7.5 - Was always going to be difficult in testing conditions especially with a new CB partner. Missed his mate and lucky we didn't concede again in the second half.

Cullen - 8 - Midfield dynamo, kept us ticking with precise, intelligent movement and passing.

Brownhill- 8 - Worked well with Cullen. Full of energy and enthusiasm.

Sarmiento - 8.5 - The driving force behind our comeback but sadly picked up a knock and had to be replaced. If he had stayed on we would have won. As usual Doak got all the Sky plaudits and they hardly mentioned Sarmiento's impact on the game.

Anthony- 7- Great workrate but never really got the opportunity to make a genuine impact going forward.

Koleosho- 7 - Always willing and never gives up which is a great quality in itself. His defensive abilties are extremely underrated.

Rodriguez- 6.5 - Struggled against a very well drilled Boro defence. Its been a tough couple of weeks for 35 year old legs.

First game I've seen this season .... and now able to put in context (ie. ignore) some of the player ratings I've seen . Koleosho 4 !!! The lad did fine from what I saw. Can't fault his running, endeavour and not lacking in skill. It's great to have this sort of player in the team that will not be afraid to run at defences with the ball. I feel people just get it in their heads that someone is useless and then stick with that bias regardless. I've seen it so often over the years with other Burnley players.
