MOTD - replacing Gary Linaker
MOTD - replacing Gary Linaker
Article that intimates BBC want a job share between Mark Chapman and Kelly Somers.
Mark Chapman says, Bog off!
Good for him. Men's game.
Women have all the posts on their prog, rightly.
This messing about with Men's progs to get women in is pure rubbish. They are expert in their own game and bland in the Men's game.

Re: MOTD - replacing Gary Linaker
Kate Abdo gets my vote. Does a great job with Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards on the US coverage of the champions league.
The sooner they can make MOTD entertaining the better.

I feel like this is something I'm supposed to be furious about, but MoTD is fizzling out anyway. Can't remember the last time I watched - a once great institution but those days are gone now. Probably kinder to put it out of its misery like Soccer AM.

When she starts reading out results I know it’s time to switch channels. I only ever used to listen to the Classified Results when checking the Pools Coupon. The National Lottery seemed to be the death knell for the Football Pools. Shame really.

Does anyone still even watch MOTD? as in make a beeline for it rather than “ just leaving the tv on “ While it was once the only way to see the days action and essential viewing , it feels 20 yrs past its sell by date and much like a 17yr old incontinent Labrador ,whose legs went yrs ago . Just put it out of its misery and spare us all .

Mark Chapmam doesn't want to share the job. Fair enough.
Nothing other than the dog whistle headline that he refuses to share because it's with a woman.

Re: MOTD - replacing Gary Linaker
It still draws a couple of million viewers late on a Saturday night. I still watch it. It’s still the best way to get a summary of the days PL action.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2024 11:48 amDoes anyone still even watch MOTD? as in make a beeline for it rather than “ just leaving the tv on “ While it was once the only way to see the days action and essential viewing , it feels 20 yrs past its sell by date and much like a 17yr old incontinent Labrador ,whose legs went yrs ago . I'd bring Dan Walker back from Channel 5. One of the most underrated presenters on telly imo.
Re: MOTD - replacing Gary Linaker
Why her, she can’t even pronounce “footballer” correctly, she says it in a quick way and it sounds as though she misses the “a” out, it comes across as footbuller.

Re: MOTD - replacing Gary Linaker
The host should be immaterial really , it would work with a “ rolling presenter “ taken from the current crop and simply professionally anchor the highlights . The likes of Chappers, Gaby and a few of the better quality newcomers would surely fill the slot(s) without upheaval .
Alas the BBC are hardly just gonna pick “ the best presenter “ it will need to tick their boxes ,and that’s just the way it’s done , love it or loathe it .

Re: MOTD - replacing Gary Linaker
Chapman would be a safe pair of hands and I can understand why he'd want it 'full time' rather than job-sharing, be it with a male or a female is immaterial.
That said, I don't mind the idea of there being no regular host either. There's some cracking presenters and pundits of either sex who could step up.

Whoever it is will be better value for money than GL. Incredible that you can be the highest paid person at the BBC presenting a highlights show once a week. Absolutely no need to be paying that sort of money out.
Re: MOTD - replacing Gary Linaker
Doesn't matter who the host is for me....... I record it & ffwd through the chat & waffle, I don't need someone to tell me what I've just seen. The best episode imho was when Lineker was suspended & all the pundits came out in sympathy!

Re: MOTD - replacing Gary Linaker
Best presenters have not necessarily been footballers, Des Lynam ,Geoff Stelling etc, I'd love them to think outside the box and perhaps go for somebody like Tony Livsey ( or similar, a football supporters who isn't associated with the back slapping Prem club ).

I like the idea of weekly guest presenter. Have I got news for you did it and it’s kept the product fresh.
Some or all of the names mentioned can be used. Then after a season re assess.

Re: MOTD - replacing Gary Linaker
Several weeks ago when there was a rumour that Lineaker might be packing in as host of MOTD a name came to mind that I thought might be given consideration, for my sins I contacted the DG at the BBC -Tim Davie with my thoughts, he sent a favourable reply. This morning I noticed in the press that this persons name has now been put forward for the role. I’d not seen it mentioned anywhere before this morning. Should I have gone to the Bookies from the outset?

These women - most of all Gabby Logan - have nothing to do with men's football!hoosier-daddy wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 6:08 pmGabby Logan (to save people reading through shite)
Not too bad. There's far worse. Alex Scott for instance.
Women's football, when I have stumbled across it, is dominated by women, who know their game.
Men's football is sacrificed and relegated to lowest common denominator, to meet some stat.
Anyone know any midget commentators? In with a great chance.
