Every town has a building like that, it’s when they all look like that you have to worry.

We’ve had the million dollar Town to Turf fiasco to give visitors a good impression of the town and yet the first thing. you see if you get off the train at Burnley Central is this eyesore and it would probable take a demolition company less than a week to clear it and cost a couple of grand to do it.

All those old terraced houses in Burnley Wood all knocked and replaced by modern( not saying better housing). How easy was that to do. So why hasn’t this be done. There must be a reason.

Wouldn't most people enter Burnley at Manchester Road station if coming by train now ? Slow often cancelled route that goes through Burnley central .

Easy access to the beer garden.

It is owned privately, demolition commenced but asbestos was found, then mysteriously set on fire and untouched since. The council have, recently, for unknown reasons refused to take enforcement action against the owners to either demolish or make the building safe.

Used to be a popular watering hole in the days of football specials, TBH only time I ever went in there.

Friday and Saturday nights, Adelphi and Reindeer after train from Brierfield, then Talbot and Sparrow Hawk, back to Adelphi for last pint and train home, Reindeer had a great Christmas feel about it.

I’ve sent an email to Burnley MP Oliver Ryan asking him to visit this run down area of Burnley. Let’s hope he can ‘bang a few heads together’ at local and county council level and make this area much more pleasant for visitors to the town.

Maybe we could stick a Blue Plaque on it and generate some much-needed tourist income.

I’ve sent an email to Burnley MP Oliver Ryan asking him to visit this run down area of Burnley. Let’s hope he can ‘bang a few heads together’ at local and county council level and make this area much more pleasant for visitors to the town.

If he’s not posing with pussycats or posing in Asda he doesn’t want to know.

Alternatively, whilst a being town in decline (like many others) we still retain our heritage, have a stunning Pennine location, decent transport links and the residents have a sense of community.

In addition, we have a football team with a long history going from top to bottom along the way. The current population of Burnley is about 78,000. For the Play-Off win at Wembley against Sheffield United in 2009 we took over 38,000 supporters.

Sports and Activities are in abundance locally. Burnley can boast two of the best amateur cricket teams (Burnley CC & Lowerhouse CC) who play in the one of the best amateur leagues in the country.

An added bonus is that award winning Real Ales (also brewed in the area) can be had for £2.00 a pint on Match days. We have had to perform CPR on a number of southern away fans in The New Brewm when they realised that 5 pints cost a tenner as opposed to £35.00 in their local.

I'm proud of my town.

From someone that has moved to Burnley from an apparent better and more affluent neighbouring town I can honesly say Burnley is a great place to live with lots at its doorstep


Anyone can find negatives anywhere but Burnley has a lot going for it and in terms of town centres …. It’s much better than many similar sized towns in the northwest and is only getting better

Who is getting off the train at Burnley central? Does that station get any customers these days?

Anyone coming from the Colne / Nelson / Brierfield side for one.

Or people coming from the less used stations towards Preston that the Blackpool train misses out.

So about 6 people every other day, unless there’s a cancellation (there will be)
