Re: Tonight's Football
Regarding the two Arsenal goals, how refreshing to have no VAR intervention on 2 marginal offside decisions. Close enough to level, onside, goal. Move on.
I’m feeling nostalgic.

Thoughts have always been the same regarding VAR.
It's not the technology it's the people that operate it. That's the problem. Improve the humans that operate it, you improve the overall VAR.

Re: Tonight's Football
I’ve seen this week that the FA have decided not to use VAR in the 3rd & 4th rounds. It was just ridiculous to have it at some grounds and not others which has been the case for the last few seasons.

Loved that headed goal from Nketiah. A thing of beauty!
Re: Tonight's Football
Agree, but I also think the game needs to be much clearer in terms of exactly which scenarios VAR will/won’t be used for. For example, I cannot stand it when goals are eventually chalked off after several minutes of deliberation because his left big toe might have been offside. Anything VAR needs to be quick and consistent or get rid of it, because it’s sucking the emotion/enjoyment out of the game IMO - e.g. celebrating goals scored only to be told a VAR check is taking place!!!hoosier-daddy wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 9:12 pmThoughts have always been the same regarding VAR.

Re: Tonight's Football
Agree on VAR but that 2nd Arsenal goal was so clearly offside it was a travesty the lino didn’t give it. If there is no VAR there has to be good standard officials.

Southampton robbed! Clear foul and red card. Ref totally bottled it.

Talking about officials. Simon Hooper must one of the worst referees in the country.

Re: Tonight's Football
It’s an interesting one isn’t it. Last night there were 2 contentious decisions. A goal that ended up being the game winner that was offside, a foul that probably wasn’t a penalty, but was a red card, that wasn’t given. With VAR both outcomes would have been different. It’s alright saying we need better officials, but with the pace of the game and only one chance to see it you are bound to get mistakes. Imagine the outcry on here if we had lost 3 - 2 in a cup quarter final and one of their goals was offside.
VAR is here to stay, they just need to make it slicker in my opinion.
