Rushed signing in pre-season because of an injury to Charlie Taylor and signed on the recommendation of Phil Bardsley. He proved to be a very good signing for us.

Yes, a really good signing for us.
Always gave 100%, great attitude.
Hope he does well for them, except against us, of course.

I wish we had got Eric two or three years earlier
You could tell the pedigree he had

Stoke's loss was our gain with both Bardsley and Pieterswarksclaret wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 4:55 pmI wish we had got Eric two or three years earlier

I was very sorry to see him go. Hope the move works out for him. Presumably he’s now looking at getting into coaching, and this can only be good for him.

Re: ARTICLE: Pieters joins Luton in short term deal
Spoke to some "sensible" Stoke fans a few weeks ago, and they really rated him. He was SD's type of player, and could get stuck in as well as having a wonderful left foot. Always gave 100%
Re: ARTICLE: Pieters joins Luton in short term deal
Was a weird one with him and Taylor. Taylor always looked a bit more progressive going forwards but Pieters always had better attacking figures.warksclaret wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 5:41 pmSpoke to some "sensible" Stoke fans a few weeks ago, and they really rated him. Re: ARTICLE: Pieters joins Luton in short term deal
I remember when Pieters played as a left winger away at Palace in a lockdown game when we were down to the bare bones. He was actually pretty good at that too. No pace whatsoever but a very good football brain.

Good luck to Erik Pieters - a real footballer!
Always came across as a genuine, nice man on interview and was always content to do his bit for the team, no matter what.
A friend, of 50 years, died a couple of weeks ago. His son rang to tell me the news.
During our conversation, the son said he was in Banbury and that he knew Erik Pieters as he was into horses. He said he had met him at an event and that Erik had chatted to lots of people and they they had chatted at length. He saw him again, much later and Erik came over, when he saw my friend's son and asked how he was and all the others he named, from that original conversation! Now that is a feat and shows how interested he is in others.

Re: ARTICLE: Pieters joins Luton in short term deal
It wasn't weird at all. Pieters could cross. Taylor couldn't.
I still remember his peach vs Southampton.

Not sure that's true. Wasn't Taylor well known for his crossing to Chris Wood at Leeds.superdimitri wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 9:38 amIt wasn't weird at all. Pieters could cross. Taylor couldn't.

Two goals and an assist from that technically inept Ashley Barnes, also one assist cancelled out by VAR for some unfathomable reason.superdimitri wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 9:38 amIt wasn't weird at all. Pieters could cross. Taylor couldn't.

Re: ARTICLE: Pieters joins Luton in short term deal
We had some damn good players and people during the SD period.
Being recommended by Phil Bardsley is enough for me. Yes, the red mist did descend sometimes with Bardo, but he was a real trencher.

Pieters was always better than Taylor. Defensively equally as good, and offensively better, as he was just a more intelligent player. Taylor is one of the most overrated players I’ve seen play for us. As a modern day fullback, his lack of attacking output meant he fell short, and it’s no surprise to me he can’t get in a truly awful Southampton side.

I disagree but you're entitled to your opinion.DanH90 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 10:33 amPieters was always better than Taylor. Re: ARTICLE: Pieters joins Luton in short term deal
Taylor was good for us but Pieters was a Dutch international and a class player. We obviously didn't see the best of him but proved to be a terrific signing. He got injured at Crystal Palace in his final season and only made one substitute appearance in the fourteen remaining games. He'd come back in and we'd picked up with wins and draws. I always wonder how much better we might have done in those remaining games had he been available.DanH90 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 10:33 amPieters was always better than Taylor. Didn't realise how good he was until he signed for us, had Mo Salah in his back pocket at the Turf once, plus he was decent with the ball.
