Unfortunately this is what happens when you give an estate agent a job managing these type of things because you had a failed property deal with them and they're a m̶o̶r̶o̶n̶ mormon.jdrobbo wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 7:20 pmNah. I’m learning to realise that worrying about the football is way too much. I worry about my club’s financial future: I have for a few years. Worrying can be saved for family, friends, pets, health. I’ve done enough of it.
The aforementioned remark isn’t worry; it’s more comedic apathy towards a truly awfully organised event. The concept is good, but those running it appear utterly clueless.

Attempt 3:
Still confused. Either the matting wasn’t over the centre spot or they totally missed the one ball that landed inside the centre circle.
Either way, well done Marv. A good roll.

Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
Thought I was going mad, me and my lads were convinced marv had won with his being the only ball to be within the centre circle! I’m thinking the lads with the tape measure don’t know how to read tape measures…..another one robbed!!
Marv - I’d be getting in touch with the club if I were you!

Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
A few have suggested that the matting wasn’t central, but after initially putting the sheet down in the wrong place, the young lads checked it and adjusted it.
I’m absolutely convinced that out of three attempts, each winner has been called incorrectly.

Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
Game 1 winner: had his ball stopped about a yard outside the centre circle by an assistant but it would have ended up near the cricket field penalty area!
Game 2: rolling ball was slowing to a stop well inside the centre circle, only to be touched towards the centre spot by Jay Rodriguez. It was the clear winner but was discounted!
Game 3: The only ball to roll to a stop inside the centre circle wasn’t declared the winner.

The target definitely wasn't central over the centre spot. For the first time, they got the winner correct.

Surely the aim is not to find the centre spot, but the centre of the matting.

It would have to be a fair way off centre for the one outside the centre circle to be nearer than the one that was inside.Mrpotatohead wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2024 8:15 pmThe target definitely wasn't central over the centre spot. For the first time, they got the winner correct.

The contestants should strike the ball with either their arse or their elbow.
It makes no difference to the outcome as the 'officials' cannot identify their own.

It’s amazing how many different ways they’ve been able to balls up something that should be so simple.
Kick the ball towards the halfway line, closest to the centre spot wins.

Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
From our view in the Jimmy Mc Upper the sheet was nowhere near central. It was way over towards the Bob Lord, so probably got this one right. It would be helpful if they left the balls in place until they announced the winner so that we could see/remember which ball won!

Why have the big circular sheet anyway? Just measure from the center spot??

Exactly what we were saying.
They really have complicated something very simple.

How do they win the money, land on the mat or the red bit in the middle? All a bit unclear.

Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
Closest to the centre spot wins a ticket to hospitality, if it's in the red centre zone you win the jackpot, now £2000 (that will definitely be split if two balls land in the zone, he likes to make that clear).
Not sure why one person gets to kick from the centre of the goal, others from further out towards the touch lines, that seems like a disadvantage. From my view, the tape measure wasn't event taut yesterday when measuring the distance to a ball!
All a bit pedantic, but if you're going to do a simple fun competition, at least do it correctly and find the correct winner. Three times now and they've all been a bit of a mess

Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
Absolutely. All kicks should be taken centrally, ie on the 6 yd line in line with the penalty spot. As CT stated, the whole thing is a joke. It’s embarrassing.
Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
It's a bit of fun
Those taking part enjoy it, and once the prize gets to 4k everyone will want to play

They'll know, as the ball will be in the round bit in the centre of the mat, no measuring required.dougcollins wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2024 1:17 pmThat's the point - when it gets to that amount they'll want to know that if they win, they win.
Seeing as we've managed to avoid the correct winner thus far.

It's hardly a bit of fun when there are prizes and they are not going to those who actually win

I'm assuming that the chosen few who get picked out to compete are those, as we have witnessed, complete hoof merchants and most likely will be close relatives of them who are sponsoring the event.
Re: “SPOT ON” - Tonight’s new half-time ‘entertainment’
No. Anyone can enter via website, and all seem to come from different stands, and genuine fans, so very much doubt your assumption is correctDressinggown wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2024 4:49 pmI'm assuming that the chosen few who get picked out to compete are those, as we have witnessed, complete hoof merchants and most likely will be close relatives of them who are sponsoring the event.

Quite right, Tony.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2024 1:34 pmIt's hardly a bit of fun when there are prizes and they are not going to those who actually win
Spoke to Marv and said that all the other players congratulated him at the end and were left baffled when someone else won. He then said that they didn’t explain the outcome. As it happens, one of his mates won the two hospitality tickets, so hopefully, he’ll take Marv as his plus one. He wasn’t happy!

That was a con. Is there an ombudsman for half time games because that was a win by the rules as they’ve been explained.

To be fair though, the article on the club's website when the game was launched says:
If a player manages to land the ball directly on the centre spot, they can claim the main prize, a fantastic £500 cash!
If not claimed after game 1, the jackpot prize will increase by £500 and will accumulate after every home game until the end of the season.

Ball not on the spot but declared ‘WINNER!’ but not removed, making it impossible for the other three players to get closer.

Half Time Centre Spot Challenge
Does anyone know why the lad didn't win the cash when his attempt landed in the circle?
No wonder there was so much booing.
