Early closing of catering
With25 mins left I nipped downstairs to get my missus a hot chocolate to defrost only to find all outlets shut.I understand there may be implications selling alcohol after half time but to shut off catering so early is a joke
There would be people buying hot drinks all through the half especially on a bitterly cold day like Saturday was.I saw a guy coming out of the unit by the North stand up and he told me they shut 10mins after half time.
This is complete nonsense and needs addressing
The catering is very poor and needs a complete overall

How long do you want them to stay open?

Re: Early closing of catering
Baffles me how people can't cope for an hour and a half without something to drink or scoff. I get it about perhaps wanting a hot drink to warm the cockles, but isn't that what Half time is for? It's busy down there, but you'd be hard pushed to find anybody stuck in a queue for 10-15 mins solid.
And as for people I saw leaving on 80 minutes, I just can't comprehend paying so much money for something and not bothering to stop until the end.
I'm not interested in hearing about 'beating the traffic' or other such nonsense, it's just bizarre

It would probably cost them more in wages staying open to please someone who still wants a drink half way through the second half.

Never known the catering to open after half time since I’ve been going on the Turf and my first match was in 1988.

Re: Early closing of catering
I think catering always closed around 10 minutes after half time. Even in the 1960s!
I remember a member of staff used to come up on the longside with a bag of unsold pies about 15 minutes before the final whistle. Someone used to come up on the longside upper tier with a similar bag in the early 2000s

Re: Early closing of catering
I was at two German matches at the end of November:
Freiburg v MG and Karlsruhe v HSV.
At the end of the Freiburg game I was with friends in the stadium bar for 2 hours after the game.
The bars in all German stadia are open for hours both before and after the game.
They also serve drinks at your seat.
We have a lot to learn about having a 'captive audience'.

I doubt many Burnley fans want to stay behind in the concourse to drink for 2 hours after the match.MT03ALG wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2024 9:06 pmI was at two German matches at the end of November:

Re: Early closing of catering
Good for ze Germans. I don’t think that’s anything that British football need to learn from them though because I doubt many British football fans want to stay in a crowded dingy concourse to drink for 2 hours after the game when they could go elsewhere.
Re: Early closing of catering
New grounds like spurs and Everton are set up for fans to stay drinking etc after the game.
Wouldn't work at the turf other than the bar behind the goals

Something to do with the small boats I heard.
Re: Early closing of catering
Tbf i think the fanzone is open straight after the game. Only really makes sense at grounds that are in the middle of nowhere or a nightmare to get away from.

Re: Early closing of catering
Aye, only a handful of oddbods would stay behind drinking for 2 hours when we have a load of pubs only a few minutes walk from the stadium.
Re: Early closing of catering
My lobster thermidor was slightly underseasoned on Saturday and when I took it back they happily ground ( not sprinkled like those crappy sachets you get in Spoons etc)some more pepper on it and it was well into the second half, complimentary flute of champagne as well by way of an apology served by the chairman who personally came over to the JML to apologise. My only complaint is the plastic flute but those are the ground regulations they had though chilled it down on a block of ice imported from the Norwegian Fjords

Re: Early closing of catering
Since 1961 that must be the first time you've tried to get a drink at that time, which shows why there's no demand for it.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Tue Dec 24, 2024 8:24 amI have watched Burnley since 1961 and am used to shite catering but still feel this early closing is wrong. Its sad that some " comedians " on here have to be abusive but que sera sera UTC

As with gladness men of old
Do the district nurse behold
Meals on wheels for half a crown
Then t't Turf to wash it down
What's the bar in the Jimmy Mac for
If it shuts at ten past four?

Re: Early closing of catering
They do it at Brighton, why not here? People leave the ground because there is a combination of reasons such as the service provision isn't available, the choice of offerings isn't what they can get elsewhere, the surroundings are no good or the price point isn't great. Fix those and people will stay.
I have two suggestions. Leave just one kiosk open after half time as a trial, let's say at either end or in the middle to make it easy to identify, and if the income surpasses cost them stick with it. Then the folk that simply can't go 90 mins without a lukewarm overpriced 'hot' drink aren't striking.
Second suggestion is to make either end of a concourse a bit of a pop up style bar with stools that opens 10 minutes after final whistle, allowing the majority of folk to have filtered out OR open up a section of the exec boxes OR open up the fan zone again and watch them come.

The fan zone is open after the game, usually showing any match that is kicking off at 5:30

Re: Early closing of catering
Exactly, with the issues that have been happening with catering over the past couple of years, and there have been many, they decide to bring up something that is a non-issue and been happening for well over 30 years.
