Merry Christmas fellow Clarets,

I know a Google job would probably suffice but can always count on this forum for solid info.

I'm running the Rome marathon on the 16th of march and have doubled it up as a weeks holiday for me and the Mrs.

Looking at the excursions they are quite dear to all book at once so wondering what the differences in cost are to walk up on the day.

Also fancy taking in a match whilst I'm there but tickets don't seem to be available on the Roma website as it's quite far in advance.

All advice welcome on things to do and ways to organise.

I am fairly certain that there is an International Break from 17-25 March so Roma may not be playing, depending on the dates you are looking at ---obviously not the 16th March because you will be busy!

Just had a look and Roma are away on 9 March, at home to Cagliari on 16 March and then the next fixture is away on 30 March.

Yeah had a look at the fixtures AS, it'll be the Cagliari game. Run will be well done by kick off as long as the kick off remains at the current planned time which I'm assuming is late because of the marathon?
Will be a bit sore but should be ok.

Wonderful city is Rome. Use the red city sightseeing bus to get a feel for the city. Quite compact, you’ll get a good feel for it from the top deck. Be careful on the underground, it’s all a bit Oliver Twist with the kids pickpocketing. Don’t be dragged in for a pic with the “centurions” outside the colosseo. Eat in the area called “trastavere”. Eating and drinking in view of anything you are aware of will cost you double what it costs elsewhere.

Its a brilliant place. You stare at a serious piece of history, walk round the corner and are faced with another serious piece of history.

The capital of the ancient world and to see it still living & breathing today in modern times is staggering. One of my favourite places to visit, as is Italy on the whole. O/T: Pompei just blew my mind.

Went in November, was amazing. To note it's an anniversary year so they expecting loads at the Vatican, so will be busy!

Book early as time slots for attractions will sell out.

Walked everywhere as stayed close to the main station. Soo much to see and do, enjoy

We went in 2018 and just paid for what we wanted to do when there. I think we paid for the Vatican the morning of our visit and queued up for the Colosseum. Found Rome good as everything seemed to be in walking distance. As per any city, be careful of pick pockets. Also taxi drivers are mental drivers over there.

Spent a lot of time there, my advice is to head to the west of the city. Tick off the tourist stuff if you want but the western part is much nicer.

Get Romapass, info link below, it’s a while since I’ve been but we picked them up at airport and you can use them on train into Termini. Research that but it is value for money without.

Same as Pompeyclaret we stayed near the station (hotel colosseum) . Book on line for the "skip the line colosseum tour - include palatine hill and forum .

Best thing about Rome is that if you are moderately fit, you can pretty much walk anywhere.

The Metro system isn't much use to be honest (unlike the one in Naples, which is excellent).

Agree will all the all the above and a fabulous city to visit. Save yourself €50 to and from the airport by catching the AirPort Express train which takes you directly into Rome Terminal Central. Easy to walk city and as people have mentioned book access to the major sites in advance as we found thousands in queues (granted we went on a public holiday) Beware some sites are currently “under wraps” for 2025 celebrations, part of a 25 year cycle. Eat Pizza/Pasta to keep the prices for eating out down, having said everything a fabulous city to visit. This was the view from our Airbnb for the public holiday celebration.

The Trevi fountain now has a queueing system. Introduced a few days ago. They’re thinking of doing it by tickets so look out for that

Didn't manage to get a match in but wasn't short of things to do.
I randomly bumped into someone during the marathon that you'll all recognise
Also a bit of advice for anyone else going, make the trip to Tivoli, lovely little place with a renaissance Villa called villa D'este. Ended up proposing to the mrs to be in the garden and it certainly fit the bill.
All in all a brilliant week and I would 100% recommend visiting to anyone!

Cheers mate, id say it was about 14 miles in. I was kind of just plodding on, after a while the crowds just kind of blur because there's so many at parts. However I happened to look up and just saw someone stood on the side watching and I thought at first I recognised him but as I got closer I obviously realised it was him.It was deffo worth the 2 minutes stop and he was proper sound. I'll be honest I can't remember exactly what was said but it was something along the lines of 'mad what happens in life innit'

It's a running joke now though cos me and a couple of good mates have bumped into someone famous within a day of getting engaged. Ricky Gervais, Woody Harrelson and Dychey (I'm the only Burnley fan of the group so they're not accepting my argument of mine being the best haha).
